Silent Hill

There are many old series that should stay dead and this is one of them.

Others include Castlevania, Mega Man, Suikoden, and Breath of Fire off the top of my head.

I think that a lot of the creative spark that made many old series good died with the PS2 era. I am not sure how to describe it.

You forgot Resident Evil and Tomb Raider. They've also both turned into shit by the 2010s

I’d also include Metal Gear. The only way Metal Gear could ever have another good game made again is if Konami let Platinum make MGR2, but that won’t happen.

Personally I’m still a Resident Evil shill, but yeah I agree about Tomb Raider.

I would actually argue Metal Gear has a shot, so long as it is made by fans of the original who are not Kojima whores and are okay with trying something a little different.

The problem is the odds of that "something different" looking very Current Year. I kind of got into it just now in the Unpopular Opinions thread.

Tomb Raider was nothing more but a property of both the 90s and 2000s. By the time Squeenix purchased Crystal and Eidos IPs, they ended up shitting the franchise's bed for the absolute worst. 2018 was the one year that broke me hard, even for a Tomb Raider fan like myself, with a shitty reboot movie that people defended and a third entry in the soulless trilogy. I don't care about the fact that Embracer owning full rights to the franchise since last year. All I know is that it needs to stay dead.

The problem with reimaginings and reboots is that every jackass thinks they can do better than the thing they are cribbing from. Which by itself isn't bad, but they combine it with having absolutely no respect for the original.

Look no further than the attitude of the person who wrote the reboot anime Casshan Sins towards the original Neo-Human Casshan. They pretty much took only character names and appearance.

In a word where every single IP has been rebooted for the worst, it's all because studios revive IPs from the dead in hopes of chasing the capeshit crowd.

Tomb Raider has been rebooted so many times, Saw has been rebooted two times with another coming out this November, there's gonna be another Transformers reboot movie, another fucking Futurama reboot is coming out, enough is enough. Too much is never a good thing.

I actually enjoyed Metal Gear Survive and Megaman 11. But yeah those were continuations/spinoffs which Im fine with. I feel like they brought something new to the table. It's the reboots that feel kinda feel uninspired yeah.

Why do so many trannies/left wing nuts (redundant I know) gravitate towards Silent Hill as a whole? You could throw a rock in the LPs that came from Something Awful thread and hit like 12 trannies/commies who devote their lives entirely to Silent Hill to the point of being complete autists that debate how hard the rabbi sucked on the penis of a main character when he was circumcised as a toddler.

One of my main hobbies these past two years is searching for Silent Hill streamers that derail their entire stream to yell at their audience for being HECKIN TRANSPHOBIC and start banning like 50% of their chat. I'm just wondering if its always been like that or if its something new?

A lot of leftists and trannies only play movies than games such as Life is Strange or Last of Us or that bullshit 2010s NuRaider trilogy, as well as indie shit like Undertale, Touhou, FNaF or FNF. They only play games that expect an their identity political message.

Touhou isnt even woke and fnaf was made by a guy who opposed abortion.

Could be because at one point in time goth/alt chicks took interest in Silent Hill 2. Many slutty nurses costumes were made for halloween after that.

I think it's several things as a massive fan of the first three Silent Hill games. First being Silent Hill has always had a disproportionately large female fanbase compared to other games series, (not saying that's inherently bad but can lead to weird shit like the amount of slashfics with James and Leon from RE4 that were made in the mid-2000s) and because at least for the Team Silent games (4 not so much), the games are incredibly dense, and very rich with detail that people like to dig into, which of course creates lore autists, most of which read waaaay too much into shit that's actually inconsequential and entirely miss the points of the games, which at least for SH1-3, the themes are fairly straight forward. As much as I like Silent Hill 2, I think a lot of the 2deep4u shit comes from people who only like SH2 and don't like 1 or 3 because "muh cult" because it's a cliche horror trope, even though 1 and 3 go far beyond just being cult horror games.

You completely misunderstood what I'm trying to say here, you illiterate ADHD zoomerfag. I never implied that Touhou and FNaF were woke. I was saying that these indie platforms (such as the two) were played by leftists and trannies. Please re-read my post before you attempt to post yourself.

Castlevania should stay dead if the show is anything to go by, but Mega Man 11 was good so I don't see why that should.

A fair point.

How about on life support, then?

The issue with a game like MM is that, fundamentally, it's the same game every time. Therefore, even though they are relatively cheap to make, you can't just release them year after year because it will start to feel samey. So you have to do it once every, what, 3 years, say? Perhaps more?

This does not apply to a game like Silent Hill because much of the strength is in its narrative/themes/setpieces and not in fun gameplay mechanics. If you don't have the right creative mindset, you can't turn out something that feels like Silent Hill. I am not sure that kind of mindset exists at Konami or affiliates right now.

MM11 tried adding a gimmick to spice things up, but I think the best way to handle series stagnation is to be creative within levels and with the character's moveset. Instead of another water, fire, etc level try something different or put a spin on those tired old ideas.

They gave Mega Man a slide and charge shot but never really went further. They should try giving him some other new abilities too.

As for Silent Hill, they can get away with handing remakes over to other teams but I'm not sure what they can do for new sequels. With a remake at least the blueprint is there. I wonder why they can't get the old Silent Hill team back together.

I mean you're technically right, but now you loop around to the problem I just said - it's easy to say to be creative with stage concepts, it's a lot harder to actually do. A lot of modern creators simply ape the thing they liked as a kid.

I don't think Team Silent was ever actually a consistent group; was it really?

Yeah but that's why they should add to Mega Man's abilities. Just giving him a dash and wall jump made MMX play like a dream and the level design is pretty different as a result. If they change what he can do then they'll naturally have more room to experiment with the stages too.

I'd say dashing and wall jumping are off limits, just to keep it from stepping on X's toes. These big companies gotta have some idea guys, right? I mean I can't think of anything but they should be able to. Or maybe not based on how long it took to hit MM11 and that's years old now too lol.

Idk about Team Silent really. I think it was mostly consistent but I'm just guessing. SH4 is wildly different so maybe by that point it was already a pretty different team from SH1.
