Metal Gear

If he truly hated Hayter he wouldn't have given him that live action commercial in MGS4 or let him be Snake the five times before MGS V rolled around and he was more interested in getting actual actors to play with rather than voice actors.
Kojumbo had little involvement with both the English VA prior to MGSV and the live-action skits in MGS4. Hayter was cast in all the games because of Pat Zimmerman, the English voice and casting director since MGS1, to whom Kojima deferred to and was hands off with. He threw out the occasional idea, like what if they cast Kurt Russel as Snake in MGS3, and that's it. Hayter pretty much didn't exist to Kojima, that's how detached he was from the dub. All his OCD autism was solely focused on the Japanese performances.

The MGS4 skits were outsourced to an LA production studio called Logan, the guy in charge and Kojima had a number of creative meetings and discussions about what type of skits and themes he wanted, but beyond that Kojima had no involvement. The main liasons working with Logan on the skits were a Konami producer called Imaizumi and an American producer working for KojiPro called Ryan Payton. Hayter and other VAs getting cast for the live-action skits was due to Payton, Kojima had absolutely fuck all to do with it.

MGSV was the first time Kojima became directly involved in English casting, iirc because this was the first time performance capture for the game was going to be done with the English actors and not the Japanese ones. Post-Ground Zeroes is when he started to be directly involved in voice directing, it's actually really easy to tell when he took over because Troy Baker's voice acting goes from imitating MGS1/2/4 Ocelot to imitating (his own) Joel from Last of Us.

People keep projecting some kind of relationship onto Hayter&Kojima that was never there. Pretty sure Hayter said he only met Kojima like twice total, in passing, at some events.

Well whomever's choice it was to replace him, should be fucking neutered or something! At the very least fired and blacklisted!

Fair enough, I just think the weird "Kojima HATES David Hayter!" Narrative is bizarre when it seems much more like he just doesn't care at all about the guy.

I honestly think Kiefer was a shit choice though. He has some decent moments as Big Boss and Venom but some of his better work wound up cut from the game for no discernible reason.

I disagree. One of the complaints (as well as justifications from fanboys) of MGS V is that it felt like a PS3/360 game nearly two years into the PS4/Xbone lifecycle.

Without a total redo, there is no way that this feeling wouldn't have been seen as even worse in 2017/2018.

This is also assuming that MGS V as it was released wasn't mostly what Kojima intended it to be. I will die on the hill that MGS V was at least 95% of what Kojima wanted it to be. You have to remember that Kojima literally cut features such as deployable Battle Gear because he thought it conflicted with his vision for the game. There's no real reason that Kingdom of the Flies *couldn't* have been done in Africa instead of a whole different island. I'd argue it wouldn't have been that difficult for him to create said island using Africa assets if he really wanted to, and this isn't even getting into the alleged Kojipro people who say that KotF was cut because he felt it took away from Quiets sacrifice and the Venom Snake reveal.

You can say that an extra two years could have allowed Kojima to add better bases/NPCs/missions, but the better question is why werent they just good from the start? I'm supposed to believe they didn't have the time and/or resources when modders are now adding missions and scenarios with bullshit resources and tools they developed themselves without having intricate knowledge of the FOX Engine?
I don't think any amount of time would have improved the story of this game. It is flat out terrible. The first "chapter" assuming you don't count Ground Zeroes as being the first, is essentially the main story and all it is is a mediocre revenge plot involving a completely pathetic villain who has his plans upended by literal kids (i.e. Mantis and Liquid).

The second "chapter" honestly just feels like DLC considering its length and how it overall adds little to the story or characters, and in my opinion, this would likely have been the case with any additional "chapter". It's just extra content. That's it.

Yeah even the script mentions that the Patriots didn't intend for Solidus to actually escape with Arsenal. I do wonder how things would have played out if Snake/Otacon hadn't shown up. For a start, Vamp would have straight up murdered Raiden as soon as he got to Strut B.

This might be unpopular, but this part will always be funny to me:
"I have a last request... Call me Emma."
"What's wrong with E.E.?"
*dies*
I'll still never get over Eva calling herself "Big Mama" in MGS4. I just kept thinking of Martin Lawrence after I heard her say that.

Sutherland is a good actor, but he's just so bland in the game. I mean everything feels bland in the game, but that especially. They should have kept Hayter, although there was no need to make MGSV in the first place.

I would also add, and I think I mentioned this in the Sony Thread, that the namesake of this series once again doesn't really matter. I mean think about it. Why does Metal Gear need to be involved in this ridiculous plot to rid the world of the English language when the villain could just as easily use an ICBM (think for example SCUD missiles) to spread the virus? The only answer to this is because it's Metal Gear. It should be there, for appearances sake. It's retarded.

I wouldn't mind MGS V having a Metal Gear if it looked like the actual old Metal Gears instead of ANOTHER knock off of REX

But that was the path they chose after Peace Walker I guess

It doesn't help that MGSV Metal Gear is pretty much more advanced than Rex a full 20 years earlier even though the latter was made with the full backing of the US government.

Metal Gear's timeline is completely interesting.

FTFY.
I think Salentropus(?) is just a Zone of the Enders reference and doesn't need to take seriously.
It most likely is partially based on possible designes they had for the canceled enders project.
Also, if we go by what it is said in the game, Sahalantropus is not really a practical weapon, based on it needing mantis I assume it can't even sustain its own weight, I assume that it was created just because of Huey, just like the battle gear he may have been the one to pitch it to be made, as his personal project.

Yeah Sahalanthropus can't have an adult pilot which makes it ineffective. That said, I enjoy PW and V's weird retrofuturism tech, but it really doesn't gel with the mainline games. I think MGS is the one franchise I'd have been okay with doing a hard reboot if it meant we could get weird new shit without breaking the original timeline and trilogy up.

The biggest issue with Kiefer (who is a good actor) is that he barley got anything to do.
He never really talked as Venom at all in the game. He was just quiet and maybe said somethings at times.
What a waste and Hayter is Snake.

Kojima needed to make up his fucking mind and either keep going into the future with Raiden or stick with Big Boss games in the past.

Trying to do both was fucking stupid IMO. Wormhole technology being around in the fucking 80's completely destroys the entire foundation of the franchise.

Platinum's got Raiden covered, but I would have loved some more Big Boss games with actual Cold War or Cold War ish tech being used. Only watched an LP of MGS3, but it was a very nice game.
