If I were in government, and I wanted to intentionally impoverish the Canadian people, I imagine I'd come up with a plan that would very closely resemble the Trudeau Liberals' actions since taking power from the Harper Conservatives.
In the news, the Bloc Quebecois has criticized mass immigration in parliament. I think this is the video; I watched a bit of it live. Their leader basically said Quebec can choose to accept mass immigration into itself, in which case the Quebecois will be drowned out by the horde of migrants coming in from India, China, and the Philippines; or they can reject immigration and then lose their voice as the rest of Canada grows but they do not. They also basically threatened separation if that happens. I don't normally approve of Quebec separatists but if they can get immigration levels down by threatening separation then I'm all for it.
I
think this is the correct video, but it's in French and I don't speak French.
Also, Pierre Poilievre has criticized the Century Initiative in parliament, though still expresses support for mass immigration. Reddit speculates this might be an attempt to hedge his bets in case Maxime Bernier does better than expected in the upcoming byelection in Manitoba. In any case, it's the closest he's come to criticizing mass immigration in a long time, possibly ever. A step in the right direction, I suppose. (But I'll still never vote for the Conservatives, I plan on voting People's Party again.)
Of course the comments on Twitter aren't buying it, which is at least a little heartening.
