The article (archive) claims that she left because she wanted free childcare:

Note that she was originally in Chicago, which has very good public transport. There are no more details given in the article.
The Reddit post does say a "non-existent social safety net".

Aside from the whole "maybe she really does want to go home" aspect, the idea of "immigrant left because no free gibs, this is YOUR fault" grinds my gears, especially seeing how much has gone over to Ukraine already.

Maybe if $40B wasn't shipped overseas, maybe we could have money for "better transit". Ever thought of that, Reddit?

For his 1 million subscriber special, Jason poorly pretended to be a suburban truck owner:

Fellow Urbanist YouTubers left comments congratulating him (the video went live today but their comments are from a week ago):

and is getting fat:

Those aren't a bad angles, he has gained weight:

He's since grown a beard to try and hide his double chin. Looks like the gym of life isn't working out so well.

The video shows how little idea Jason and his writer have what people outside of their bubble think.

Yes, his writer. Jason doesn't write his own videos:

Who's Nicole Conlan? A writer for Stephen Colbert, which explains the why the video came across as trying way too hard:
Nicole Conlan is a Peabody- and WGA Award-winning writer who has written for The Late Show With Stephen Colbert, for which she was also nominated for 3 Emmys. Nicole currently writes for the YouTube series Climate Town and Not Just Bikes. She's been staffed at websites like Sports Illustrated, Jalopnik/Gawker, and SB Nation, and has performed on multiple UCB teams and at festivals including Laugh Your Asheville off, SF Sketchfest, Beast Village, and The FEST. In a previous life, Nicole also worked a bunch of weird day jobs, including Personal Trainer, Urban Planner, Miniature Train Driver and Giraffe Supervisor.

Nooooo, we need to resist Putler and fight another meaningless foreverwar because reasons.

Jokes aside, a lot of the problems with transit isn't related to funding. The New York MTA for example has a shitload of budget yet pisses it away on fuckall and the trains frequently just stop running. If they got $40B more, New York transit would not improve one bit.

Well, at least he got that part of being a suburban truck owner right, intentionally or not!

This just confirms his entire lifestyle is sedentary, sitting at home or in the office behind a computer monitor, and never going to the gym, right? An actual gym, not the "gym of life" he touts so much.

I did say "maybe".

I just dropped the needle randomly, wasn't going to sit down through the whole thing...but repeating the same mocking shit you and your buddies have always said isn't comedy gold...and plus between Jason and some cunt from Stephen Colbert you've got two idiots who have completely lost touch with reality, and boy does it show!

It's really weird when things they try to sarcastically frame as bad things are actually desirable things. Most people would actually like a large house, a high end vehicle and low taxes. They're not really doing a good job trying to dissuade people from it.
mcmansions are cringe tho. and HOAs.

  • Agree
Reactions: Da Capo
Counter-argument: HOAs filter out undesirables who don't want to put up with them. Just like how you go to a supermarket that costs more because you don't want to deal with the people of Wal-Mart.
Counter-counter: HOAs are administered by the people who have the time to do it for free. IOW they're the property management equivalent of reddit jannies.

HOAs are more rare in the suburbs than in dense cities. I’ve never seen a condo building without an HOA, but there are a lot of houses without them.

It’s also odd that urbanists hate them. Suburban HOAs often pay for all of their neighborhood’s infrastructure through their fees, which means that they can’t possibly be subsided by property taxes on the dense areas of town. Urbanists should love them for breaking the “Ponzi scheme”. Also, they want everyone to live in rental housing. Even the nicest landlord is more restrictive than the worst HOA.

40 billion could rebuild my entire state several times over. Give multiple rail systems to remote parts of the state. Fuck me.

They also bitch about grass length and what color you can paint YOUR home. Fuck em

It is nearly impossible to have a condo building without a HOA, because there is only one roof but many units beneath it, and if you try to make the guys at the top pay for the roof they're gonna say fuck off and ignore it. The only condo-like buildings I have ever seen without a HOA are rare "two houses sharing a wall" duplexes where each half is sold separately; this results in some hilarious things like a building that looks like one house with two garages and completely different roofing on each half.

Some HOAs are not bad at all, and basically collect some small amount of money to hire a beaner to cut the grass, others get fancy enough to support an entire golf course and sundry. Some are as chill as can be and some are fucking assholes of the highest reddit janny tier. They can be expensive, too, and they can change.

They are pretty much controlled by people with lots of time and who are bored, because it's a fucking pain in the ass to run a HOA (no pay, everyone hates you). But a friend of mine was able to get on the board and become president and change one rule he didn't like (the "no window air conditioners" or something) and then disappeared into the shadow.

If a HOA gets too bitchy the state government can reclassify them as a city and then there's shit they can't do.

Also lots of very famous very rich California properties have HOAs that are still officially very racist (though those sections have been struck down by law). An example of how hard it is to change HOA agreements, they still sign them and only the LAW itself could force it changed.

You could do some very amusing things with intentionally making HOAs in some areas, if I was a billionaire I'd have some fun with it. In general I don't like them, and if you find a property with a $x HOA you can find a nicer one that is mortgage+$x elsewhere usually.

I'm not even bothering trying to insert any fucking shit because run this website on TOR is such a fucking mess and holy fuck I hate you nigger faggot gross troons for ruining the only website where I can point and laugh at retards with fellow retards. Assholes. Anyways cause this in the latest Historia Civilis video, don't care if I am ninja'd fuck off I've been trying to connect to this thread for the past 15 minutes and don't even know if this post will actuall fucking send.

I hope this is just a retarded joke and not an actual sign HC believes in the walkable cities bullshit. Yeah, not shit a city 2000 years ago is fucking walkable, Alexandria probably had a population of 100k people tops and everyone fucking walked or rode camels and shit. I'm sick of all these dumb fuck niggers who complain about cities in Burgerland while worshipping cities that have been around for literal centuries before the invention of the earliest thing that can pass for an automobile. We get it faggots, those cities you can walk around in because they were all made before people could conceive motor vehicles. How many of them are still actually walkable though and not just continue to develop with being forced to cater to you autists in mind though?
That channel has been showing its true rainbow colors over the last few years, don't know why anyone but soy'd alternative history buffs would watch their content. Hint: As soon as a channel starts to use BCE, it's over. It'll only get worse.

I once purchased a house that still had all the original language from when the property was subdivided(not-HOA) telling me that the only people of color who could live on the property were servants. The government solution was simple just require a cover page on it saying "Some of these things are no longer legal and may be ignored."

Now, of course, wokies want the language removed entirely for no actual reason other than to make themselves feel better and probably have the cities waste a bunch of money on lawyers.

That's not an HOA, those are deed agreements (similar to zoning but based on time agreements, like 30 years before anything can be done).

HOAs ≠ deeds ≠ zoning.

BART's anime mascots:
anime mascots.png
BART is excited to announce the release of five BART- and Bay Area-themed anime mascots that will help us in our mission to promote public transportation use, especially among youth riders -- a growing and reliable ridership demographic.

Inspired by BART frontline employees and BART-contracted animals who have gone on to reach national fame, like Pac-Man the Harris hawk and the goats that graze BART property, the anime mascots contain numerous details highlighting the tight-knit connections between BART and the Bay Area. BART's new mascots were inspired in part by public transportation agencies in Japan, South Korea, and Taiwan, which use anime mascots to connect with their riders and communities.

The mascots were the result of an open call for California-based artists BART released in Summer 2022. The call was wildly popular, receiving nearly 500 submissions. Following the call, BART worked with selected artists to conceptualize and create the mascots, which will serve as BART's friendly and approachable avatars.

Meet the Mascots this Weekend in San Jose!

Back4.png
BART's anime mascots will make their formal debut at FanimeCon, a popular anime convention held at McEnery Convention Center in Downtown San Jose from May 26 to 29. BART staff will be tabling at the convention and will have BART-themed anime merchandise, promotional tickets, collectible charms and postcards, and more.

i saw that, rule 34 is in full effect now for BART which is not something I needed in my life.

I was also musing as I was walking with a dolly with a car battery on it; that walkable cities would kill these people's things; because the ONLY reason bikes and other wheeled contrivances are so useful is that we have built tons of roads and other flat things.

in a world without the automobile or the horse-drawn cart, we would not have flat roads, like the mayan cities of old; you'd have to walk, and only what you could carry could you move around.

In a world without cars, there wouldn't be need to flatten out large stretches of land that bikes could ride on, roads would follow the curve of the earth, making biking a chore. Also supplying cities would slow WAY down, limiting their size to the hive dwellers dismay. You'd have to live closer to the food, like old times
