A lot of my cooking derives from the '60s Betty Crocker cookbook, even if she was a fictional character. I was like 9 years old when I cooked the pound cake recipe "Loaf O' Gold" from that book.

I never gave it any thought, but I could see (among ghetto types) the earlier suggestion that it's crude status-seeking as compared to their flashy clothing.
