Also the thing I remember most about F00t is, back when he was going on about Sarkeesian, he thought the "Women in refrigerators" trope was about literal women in refrigerators. That told me immediately how in depth he looks at things before he starts talking about them.

I agree. But those scientists are in really short supply and in really high demand. And generally, even the brilliant ones have a focus that's just too narrow to make it as a popular public intellectual. The very thing that makes them great scientists tends to work against them in that wider sphere.

A lot of those you won't even realize are science as the best way to communicate a topic is to show its application and make it practical for a more public use.

I think that's been happening for a long time now with his constant chimping out about Elon Musk. Dude can't go a few weeks without making a video about how much he's seething about something Musk did.

That told me immediately how in depth he looks at things before he starts talking about them.

It's rather strange as he'll be very autistic about some things and dig up all kinds of evidence that's actually useful, and then other things he'll accept as fact and present as fact even if it openly contradicts him. I remember in some of his videos he'd show an article that actively disputes what he's saying in the video, but he'll use it as support of what he's claiming.

Thunderf00t isn't a Britbong intellectual by any stretch of the imagination. We don't tend to think of people with a science background as being intellectuals at all. (I think that's probably true of all of Europe.)

I meant public intellectual on the internet. I agree that the UK, the rest of Europe and most of the world don't consider actual scientists as intellectuals; because actual scientists need to make sure their tenure gets renewed. Phil's been able to avoid that at least, since he at least has a job and has been able to keep it despite getting on the gamergate and anti-islam trains a little bit.

But Richard Dawkins is still considered a public intellectual right? He goes on TV debates and kinda succeeds at living up to at least a shadow of Christopher Hitchens. I think he's the only big atheist who actually hates every religion and not just Christianity. Speaking of, I wonder if Phil is only a Christian-hater too nowadays; he's really let his Musk Derangement run his channel so I'm not sure if he accepted it as part of the right side of history start pack.

While he has kept almost completely quiet on social issues for years, those who followed TF's exploits for longer will certainly remember him from the anti-feminism era, the first stage of anti-SJW content on YT, and mostly an inner-liberal conflict, not left vs right.
He is not a progressive, and he knows very well there are racial and sex differences. He's a classical shitlib that doesn't want to associate with the right, so he'll keep silent about politispergery these days. Probability to troon is quite low, but in 2023 it's hard to have a definitive opinion.
