Game Censorship & Localization General Thread

What's funny is the legacy collection for battle network doesn't come with all of the games. There's a platformer game that plays like if you mixed normal Megaman gameplay with the battle chip card stuff that takes place between (and came out between if I remember this right?) the first and second battle network gameboy games, Kinda like an inverse of how chain of memories was handheld and took place between the first 2 kingdom hearts games.
There's more than just Network Transmission, there's also Chip Challemge and several Japanese exclusives. I truly hate that collections only ever include main entries in a series these days, it was always sort of a problem but they never include any sort of spinoffs as bonuses anymore.

The problem is it is too much work (meaning any at all) to bring all the games together, so they figure the bare minimum is sufficient since most people won't know or care about most of the side games anyway. I wouldn't mind if they just crammed all the series' spinoffs into their own collection/s but then it comes back to them thinking there won't be enough interest so they never do it.

Box art for Disgaea 7, yes NIS put light beams over the tamest example of cleavage in existence because cartoon boobies bad. Maybe they'll reverse the trend of Etna wearing progressively less clothes every game and put her in a burka or something, you know for equality.

Light Beams are still a thing?

Isn't this the shit Sony got majorly ridiculed for regarding any sexy anime game in their PS4? You'd think any company would knock that shit off after the backlash.

Surprised nobody talked about Mortal Kombat on this thread. That and Night Trap were basically responsible for the ESRB.

I dunno, it's pretty the accusation is that she killed someone and all those giant robo fights were not just games being played by rich kids (and she might have neutralised him rather than turn him into tomato paste). Calling her a Killer is awkward in English and Murderer is more dramatic and rolls better (nevermind that being shocked, she didn't think of the legal connotations).
Saying "murderer", it doesn't have to come with legal issue, it comes with implication about morality. Saying "killing" is more neutral or ambiguous on subject, it needs more context and infos to determine whether it's a good thing or not, then legal stuff comes later.
Unless somehow I'm that stuck up to word definition, I'd rather be that way because seeing how internet destroy word usage horribly over the years. I understand "murderer" is easier to say and sounds more dramatic.

Miorine and all kids from Earth are fully aware of what mobile suit actual function, killing machine not Girls und Panzer sport thing. It's why some of them were hesitated to follow idea of making and selling weapons. Only then much later, Miorine decides to make Gundam Inc as a medical and saving lives company instead.

With Miorine being shocked at Sulleta action, not because she was that naive. Shocked at the perception seeing the one she trusts the most committing an action goes against her or their goal, the Gundam Inc itself. She didn't call out Suletta killing someone immediately, she was continued to be perplexed how Suletta thought that was okay.

This thing comes again with recent episode 16 (17:49), where Miorine understands Suletta action saved both her and her father lives, but she still disagrees the method because it goes against what Gundam Inc stands for (19:20), and more upset at how obedient Suletta is to Prospera.

Something more on topic about NISAmerica, comes with horrible audio. Outright admitting making changes for more culturally appropriate.

The fucking gall and ego and self-righteousness of these fucking libtards...

Shit is getting real with Skullgirls and its exploding all over Twitter. This tweet pretty much lays it out there for those who want to know the details and this tweet quote retweets the announcement.

Basically, they are effectively censoring a product 10 years after its initial releasing, removing content from a product people have long already paid for just to virtue signal. They also removed the Russian announcer because of the War in Ukraine. However, the Russian announcer was a crowdfunding backer goal. So they removed something that crowd funders specifically paid to be in the game. I'm not even sure that's legal.

There is currently drama going on with Skullgirls: 2nd Encore.

I'm totally detached from the fighting game community so I can't speak to specifics. From the shit flinging in the steam forum, asking a knowledgeable friend, and the flood of negative reviews, here's what I've gathered.

Basically, the game is removing all references to "hate groups", including red arm bands. Censoring any sexy art in the name of "agency", removing an announcer from the game, removing any reference to police at the cost of the story.

Judging from the reviews, the cut announcer was paid DLC and users haven't been refunded for losing access to it. The whole thing is a shit show.

Didn't the studio behind Skullgirls fire the guy who was responsible for like everything over something retarded like flirting with fans? I know fuckall about this or anything fighting games but I was under the impression that this game owed its success entirely to it being coomer bait.

I understand the afro and Big Band changes.
Filia's hair reminds me of an obese black woman and portraying prejudice as bad in Big Band's backstory was not called for.
Glad they're getting rid of all that.
Censorship is censorship and need to be opposed, no matter what. There is no good reason to change a 10 year old game.

You would be right about that. And they in fact fired the entire original dev team responsible for the game. Nobody making these changes was involved in the game's creation.

Obviously. I just find their logic funny.

Sidenote: I watched the video and it's the most bizarre thing ever.
You've got all this extremely sexual body horror bondage art but then someone's skirt has been slightly extended or their panties have changed colour.

It's great isn't it? I assume this is the image you're refering too? One of the characters wrapped up, gagged, and blindfolded as part of some BDSM scene, but they remove the blindfold and make her bum and boobs smaller, and that somehow restored her agency? I get the feeling some woman on staff really hates that specific character or scenario.

Edit: The Skullgirls thread has a more detailed breakdown of events.

For anyone wanting more info on this particular part of the story, consult this Twitter thread for videos on the subject and quick explanations. Featuring Bunny Ayumi, who, funnily enough, would later get cancelled herself by her ex-girlfriend and others.

It should be clear that when an ousting like this is seen even when a supposedly legitimate at the time grievance is given that the rest of the studio simply wants to be rid of the original mind behind the work to co-opt it.

I would be deeply suspicious that the translator reached for "cunny capitalism."

The use of that word is a red flag for pedophilic tendencies in many instances, and I would question why they chose it.

EDIT: And reading further, this is why game censorship discussion is hell. You have to share space with lolicon defenders, who a completely average Kiwi Farms user by the name of "Null" has helpfully highlighted are usually pedophiles.
