I have no idea how to extract video from Targum, but these Russians, are firing from their position and it gives the impression that they're hit with some sort of gas attack as people just slump over even though they were fine a few seconds earlier.

Stops Delays naval invasion, so it is still a good target. Having another front with barely any troops there is not going to be fun for the ones stationed at the landing. Landing ships usually have little to no defense weapon since you are acting under the assumption that your convoy could secure the landing zone for you. Missile boat on the other hand is a harder target to destroy due to their anti-missile turrets. They got those because they are a high value target while landing boats are cheap and reproducible. Yes, having drowned soldiers is bad, but that's why you sail with other ships that can protect your troops from meeting Davy Jones... unless you eat a torpedo.

Yes the ware is on Russia's border, but they can now treat it like America's forever war in Afghanistan as most citizens can largely forget it's happening but benefit from the boost to the economy it provides.

If Russia was to go scorched earth the war becomes costly, and incites the risk of reuniting Ukraine support so NATO puts troops ont eh ground or otherwise assists in a heavy push.

Russia does not benefit by the war dragging on, because every shell that gets used is one less shell Russia has in their stockpiles. Every tank that gets made is materials not going elsewhere in Russia's economy. Every soldier that gets killed is one less worker that Russia has (and Russia has terrible demographics). Hell, every soldier in the field is someone not doing something more productive for the economy. Needlessly dragging out wars has universally been considered a bad thing, hell, Sun Tzu even said as much about 2,500 years ago.

Meanwhile, NATO is getting valuable combat experience for a next-gen war, and the depletion of NATO stocks is both noticed and being addressed. Sure, not as quickly or effectively as some would like it, but they are increasing manufacturing and its making big bucks for the military-industrial complex.

This is pure cope for the fact that Russia can hardly take territory at this point because the leaders know that Ukropski defensive lines will maul them just as bad as their own are doing now. Wagner was so successful because they actually took the risk and pressed the attack. What Russia needs to do is finish liberating the Donbass, expand the borders of Crimea to get access to the Dnieper, and negotiate a treaty with the Ukrops to both recognize their control over Crimea, Mariupol, and the Donbass and have a face-saving withdrawal from their other claims (i.e. a legit plebiscite, if the West rigs it then Russia can just say as much whenever they need to pressure the Ukraine).

The goals for Russia are not the same as those of the US in ME or anywhere else. NATO being depleted is worse for them, and us, because our manufacturing is dependent on an increasingly hostile third party, or practically non-existent as in the case of Germany. Russia has changed warfare, and the US/NATO are slow to adapt. The problem is we don't manufacture anymore so we can't crank up the weapons manufacturing industry like we did during the Cold War. It simply no longer exists.

The biggest problem though is there is no support from the people that would make up the ranks of the US military after 20 years in the the sandbox and the disaster of the Afghan evac. I think the best they could do is foederati from south of the border, like Colombian/Brazilian mercs but after what they went through in Ukraine even that's questionable. We're in the late stage Empire decline. This is what happens.
