There's no such thing as an insanity defense for civil torts (*). If you are a fat retard like Pat and you rack up fines for your retardation, it is still the obligation of you or your tard wrangler to come up with the dough.

(*) As with most things there are a couple exceptions like specific intent torts.

I like to imagine Patrick's triumph in court to be just as intense and dominating as the courtroom scene at the end of the book "Girl Who Kicked the Hornets Nest."

The main character turned the tables in court (getting Swedish-version of CIA officers arrested immediately, as well as a few other really important people) and ended up winning so hard that, not only did the judge side with her completely and drop all previous court orders, she actually immediately changed her country's society forever, just like Pat can. As a reader reading this scene, you can't help but punch the air in excitement. It felt great to read for the first time after such a long trilogy.

Absolutely not. Court proceedings (most) are open to the public. You can't be kept from attending without a very good reason, and "I don't like that guy" isn't a good reason.

And the only reason press credentials matter is for a trial that has a crowd. Those credentials allow you to get a spot reserved for the press.

No, a judge can absolutely prohibit people from attending certain proceedings in the interest of keeping order. Fat's judge has appropriate neckwear as one of the standards for his level of expected order. I can see a "no pests allowed" decree coming from him.

And press credentials requirements different quite a bit from state to state and county to county. Some places don't require them at all and some require them for everything to the point of it being silly. I can't say as to the courthouse in question.

Not to say that Dan was told to stay home, I'm just saying its a distinct possibility.
