According to Nick, this happened a LONG time ago. Based on his 'advice' to women to make their own porn, and the pictures that Kayla did for Nick, if I understand it correctly, this happened beforehand.
Nick is an unreliable narrator, but I tend to think that this is some of 'his truth'. The way he pontificated on how 'easy' it is to stream years ago, and now seeing that fall flat because he was lucky in content. I believe he thinks that he has discovered some kind of 'truth', and is in for a rude awakening when he discovers it is not so easy.
I could see the above attitude of faux enlightenment precipitating the 'worst day' in a relationship (or other area of life), but I see no evidence that it was this particular instance.
