RWBY - The Hindenburg on which Rooster Teeth rests its hopes, dreams and future

Who is this? Also really weird chose for thumbnail as most of these are one off characters that got used for their purpose and discarded

Cardin - Jaune growth, discarded afterwards
Velvet - set up Cardin as bad guy, doesn’t appear after until the final battle of vol 3 (and the novels, but they don’t count, as those specifically try to flesh out minor characters)
Sun - discarded in more ways then one, but used mainly for the Faunus plot
Pyrrha - Jaune growth, Maiden set up and then literally discarded
Idk the ace op girls name, but I’m pretty sure she follows a similar trend

Penny and Ruby are the only exceptions in this image

Yes, both images do appear to be identical. No, I don't know why.

Their followup comment leads to some livestream and not to the shop where I could buy this halloween gear. Interestingly, if you search for "RT shop" on google first result is the apparel for the Russian News outlet.

Anyway, so what's the new hallowen stuff?
Here you go:
For around $63 you can get a t-shirt, plushcandy basket, and a pin.

That seems to be literally all of the new stuff. I do unironically like the t-shirt, but I also don't want to spend $63. If they offered the T-shirt separately and for like $20-30, I would definitely buy it.

The shirt does look pretty baller. Hopefully one day I can buy it individually.

That T-shirt just reinforces my opinion on RWBY.

RWBY as a series is very frustrating because you just know they are one step behind for greatness but they just cant quite reach it and fall to mediocrity instead.

I would even go as far as to say that a lot of people working for them either do an acceptable job (most animators), or are actually great. Tough the fight scenes being stiff as rocks after Monty Oum passed is undefendable period. They have more people and a bigger budget than Oum had.

I will die on the hill that people doing the music are incredibly talented, and so are their concept artists. And yes, that T-shirt proves they have good designers too

What brings it down, in my opinion is the terrible writting. Besides the well known problems, it's obvious they have been stalling for years now and they never intended to give any form of conclusion because they want to keep the cash cow running as long as possible.

Which is a shame as they could have ended Salem's story and moved on to a new Big Bad, if they were smart, instead of dragging this arch forever

I think it's obvious most people, just have given up and Rooster Teeth are just grasping at straws.

I just don't see any way of saving this franchise besides a hard reboot. It is that bad. All "fixing RWBY" youtubers are glorified fanfic writters at this point because there's no way to fix this mess without torching the whole thing down.

End it with Salem. Otherwise you just create a cycle of OP villains and asspulls/one-upmanship like what happened in Naruto after Pain.
It depends on the skill of the writters in my opinion.

Of course I wouldn't trust the current writers to pull it off, and in fact I agree they would mess it up as you said. But I am 100 sure a competent writer could make a better villain than Salem. Hence the reason I would prefer that WB would just give the franchise to someone else.

Still my point is mostly that this whole Salem arch has been dragging for too long, and we're are not even close to anything resembling a resolution.

Literally almost every single music track they've released so far is an absolute banger.

You can do "villain after villain" kind of story telling but you need to try to go the opposite direction DBZ and DBS did. For how much DBZ is a cult classic, from a writing point of view, it sucks bigger balls than a university slut. Early DBZ already had signs that this would go haywire, but you could only understand it upon retrospection.

For those unaware, it goes something like this:
Main character's brother comes to Earth, and is super powerful. Main character and the previous villain team up and defeat him. Main character died, but it won't last. Two other alliens come to earth, each of them being able to literally grow enemies as strong as the last villain. Eventually they are defeated. The main gang then go to space, and fight the Emperor and Master of all the universe. They of course defeat and kill him. What next? The Emperor returns, oh and he had a father too that nobody ever heard about. Both get defeated by some other character that also came out of nowhere. So, what possibly could be stronger? Oh, some character nobody's ever heard of managed to make metal that is stronger than the Emperor of all Universe (strongest being btw) and make tons of robots that are even stronger (some how). What next? Super Super Robot. What's next? Ancient Evil that regenerates all damage taken and can absorb enemies to gain their strength. What can possibly be next? God. Well, after you've done fucked with God, what can possibly be next? The Emperor of the Universe (he came back to life again) trained for a single month and became as powerful as a God. Why didn't he do it before? Who knows. What's next? A tournament of people all about as strong as said God. Oh, and also there is God God. Oh, and the God God is actually a part of God Gods. Goku will probably eventually defeat the God God to find out there is God God God.

You get the idea. If you want to do "villain after villain" kind of story telling, you should probably aim for something like early Fairy Tail, i.e. have them be in around the same range as the last one, but the creative abilities being the hinderance (RWBY did that with Vytal, and then never again)

RT has the problem of never having the right roles filled. The obvious answer to fixing this would have been to simply hire a choreographer but I bet nobody even remotely considered this.

Yeah but, how are they going to find a black trans Muslim handicapped choreographer that animates all fight scenes to end with all of the female characters making out?

And no doubt if they did find one it would come out three years later and put the whole company on blast for not giving it appropriate dilation time and for not giving it 3 paid weeks of vacation after someone wrote nigger on a whiteboard in a completely different part of the building.

Okay, tbf, RWBY team has done a wonderful job of not begging forgiveness for non-PC jokes. Anyone remember the "racial profiling" skit from RWBY CHIBI? They would have been hanged for it nowadays. Or, how about Sun's first appearance?
Hopefully one day I can buy it individually.
I asked them about it and there's currently no way. Sad. I would have easily bought it if it was.

The problem with RWBY's world is that it's extremely one track and suffers from what I'd call "theological stiffness": where the religion/origin story vastly affects the outcome of the world, its contents, and where everything revolves solely upon the affairs of said religion/pantheon and its gods. I understand that it's extremely hard to create a world (I've written a post prior on it), but would it really had been hard to at least create some foundations that are, much more substantial than what exists? And even then, "thelogical stiffness" is not a bad thing, depending on what you invest and envision. RWBY just happens to have a bare bones and stupidly paradoxical world where there is barely any content, yet is easily malleable by its creators or ones in the seat of the creator's throne, like you know, Salem.

To compare, not even Final Fantasy VII or even VIII is this shitty with handling their theology and mystical workings. VII deals with the Lifestream, which is extremely abstract yet still tangible and something that can become material as a magical force, while religion acts like the real world. VIII is extremely enigmatic, with the exception of creation myths scattered here and there, while magic and the paranormal are able to be proven with extraordinary evidence, making for an extremely open ended world beyond SeeD and Sorceresses. RWBY has no evidence of other gods, has stupidly overpowered macguffins that could shift the balance of power to anyone who had them, and where heaven's workshop is open for anyone to practically walk into and control all of creation over with. In a better story, these elements would be used to their fullest. RWBY fails to do anything with it, just like their headache of a magic system.
