All this does is give a whole new depressing perspective about all this. Some deprived people, especially the vulnerable kind, will put up with any kind of behavior if it means they can get any sort of attention from anyone, via girlfriends, boyfriends, friends. This girl may have just met him at a group home or wherever he was put in, and latched onto him like a lost puppy. As long as she gets that sweet sweet attention she won't mind his shitty behavior and cult-like dogma, and that's sad.
