I've ended up pretty much unwinding all my beliefs. No-fault divorce should be repealed. Common law marriage should be reinstated. Bring back morality tests for welfare. Etc.
I was always against gay marriage. Even though I am not religious, I understood the importance of marriage as properly defined in promoting normal, heterosexual families. Children need a mother and father (I know, given that I was not afforede this thinks to boomerism, devolution of social standards). I had gay friends in high school, some of the music I enjoy are from gay artists. I like Soft Cell, at least Non-Stop Erotic Cabaret, even though Marc Almond is a degenerate faggot. I no longer look at that stuff in the same way though. I even struggle with musicians who dabble in androgyny who are straight. I still love the Cure but in hindsight wonder if the lipstick and eyeliner on a man (Robert Smith) should have been tolerated.
Homosexuality is natural in so far as been an observed behavior in dozens of species, that is to say, it isn't a human or artificial behavior.
Something can be natural but still abnormal. It is natural in humans and animals but still abnormal. Also animal behavior is not influenced by culture and social mores because they obviously do not have have those things or are even capable of comprehending them (perhaps some primates do though?)
Being an unhealthy activity doesn't imply it should be banned, lest we forget the effects of ultra-processed food and booze cause to people.
Alcohol can be consumed responsbily and has been a part of the cultures of the world for centuries, millenia. Goyslop should actually be banned. Yes, I am a right-wing authoritarian.
Same can be said of cannibalism and incest. The animal kingdom is a poor guide to what laws and norms make a healthy civilization.
Precisely. And more to the point, people can be conditioned to do bad things if it gets normalized in the culture.
In many instances, the prevalence of homosexuality is comparable to heterosexuality, for example in
giraffes, it is pure cope to scratch this off as abnormal behavior.
I do not anything about giraffes other than we are not giraffes.
I'm not "conservative," but to me, it's pointless for me to be against homosexuality between two consenting adults.
Except it is not. Culture matters. It was a mistake to concede that homosexuality is an immutable characteristic. It may be some very limited extent with men, although I am pretty sure getting molested at a young age contributes to that, but all the universities are so ideologically corrupted that it will be a long time before we find out for sure. Females though are different, much more susceptible to bisexuality and lesbianism and much more influenced by the culture. If being lesbian or bi is deeply taboo, far fewer women will do that. If it is celebrated in the culture the way it is, well there are stats showing a third of zoomer women identify as something other than straight (mostly bisexual). It is also a mistake to assert, as so many Americans do, that "what others do in their own private lives is none of my concern." It is my concern because what people do affects everyone else. That kind of simplistic thinking brought us the plague of single motherhood, and we are only just beginning to feel the full brunt of that, as so many social ills emanate from that one thing.
I will add that I do not advocate trying to eradicate homosexuality from human life. That's not possible. Nor do I think Oscar Wilde's works should be banned because he is gay. But it should be a social taboo, something kept under wraps. Some of you may be familiar with Christopher Hewett, the actor who played Mr. Belvedere. He was a deacon at his catholic church, held himself out as a "lifelong bachelor." He may have had a housemate, but I don't recall for sure. Any worldly person can tell he was gay, but he was discrete about it, didn't go to pride parades, and as far as anyone knows did not indulge in the sort of hyper-promiscuity that gays tend to indulge in when there are no social pressures discouraging that. That is where the societal controls should be.
