Overwatch

It sounds like the other end of the scale, things are so samey, why even watch?
Well that's the problem - most people don't.

It didn't catch on with "gamers" because they're able to watch better esports and it didn't catch on with "normies" because it's still incomprehensible yet samey nonsense. It's why you constantly hear about how OWLeague is in trouble - because they never found an audience.

That gap isnt really unsurmountable, you just need autistic dedication to TF2. By the time you hit 700 hours you're already decent enough to carry most casual lobbies. Compared to TF2 for the little time I played OW2 it really felt like everything was out of my control, and the damage thresholds were nearly random. I know exactly how many rockets it takes to kill a Scout, I never knew how many rockets the egyptian whore needed to shoot someone.
I'd say needing 700 hours is insurmountable - not that a bad player can't ever put the time in or learn in some way and catch up, but for that match it's extremely noticeable. The presence of a talented enemy spy for example is very noticeable for example - to a point where the team is focused to account for his presence. Having a good engineer is a massive improvement over having a bad one, and so on.

I don't know about that. I can't tell what's going on half the time with the amount of lightshow clutter bullshit the game has. I can tell what's going on in CS:GO, Fortnite, or even TF2.
It was designed to be - not that they succeeded in that design.

- OW has a more distinct visual design than DOTA so that even if normies don't know the Tank/DPS/Healer concept they understand "giant man in armor" and "tiny lady with a staff covered in green healing symbols"
- OW has much less downtime than DOTA/CS (no farming, no buy round, no shopping, no extensive ban rounds/etc)
- OW has a higher TTK then CS, meaning that fights and team fights last a lot longer.
- OW has a much longer objective timer then CS - where as CS will end after a single team fight

That said, obviously they didn't achieve their goal. The game is still too simple for gamers and still too complex for normies. It does have a lot to watch (low down time and frequent fights) but the problem is that it never gets all that interesting. Ultimate abilities also tend to create huge gigantic messes as well. It's just blobs of anime character shooting at one another with minimal breathing room.

I guess they're having an Anniversary Event.
Not a celebration, more like a time to mourn what was taken from us last year.
Hang your heads in shame, Activision Blizzard.

That Mei Flower Child skin? Back in the day I would have bought loot boxes and/or played the game 24/7 to get it. Now? pfft. I will admire it from afar.

Despite 5v5 and all of these horribly overpowered supports, season 4 and 5 were admittedly pretty enjoyable. Of course they managed to absolutely ruin everything in season 6, in classic Blizzard fashion.

After seeing user Pleshie's comment about PharMercy shit, I decided to check the lead writer for OW2

And there is some credence to him pushing/being biased for the Pharmercy pairing too

LGTBBQ+ ally and yurifag for Walmart version of TF2 Medic x Soldier

Why are yurifags like this?
Pretty idiotic degeneracy. If youre gonna alter your game so coomers make r34 of it, at least have the decency to like the high quality r34.
Lesbian relationships in media are, funnily enough, extremely misogynistic. It's not just the cooming factor, it is the idea that a woman getting dicked violates and corrupts her, while lesbians are inherently pure because no dick is involved.

Of course real life statistics invalidates that idea, putting two mentally ill women together usually ends with them beating the shit of one another.
Lesbians have the highest rate of domestic violence among pairings.
but there's literally no evidence at all anywhere that states Lucio and D.Va are a thing.

They were teased, not canon. No pairing is yet. Reinhardt has flirted with Ana a few times and it's at least implied that he is attracted to her. As for Lucio and D.Va, there was an interaction between them in the original OW where he playfully calls her his "favorite song."
iirc the voice actors of dva and lucio where in a relationship at the time of OWs release so there was a play on that.

Overwatch 1 (the initial release) was supposed to be the "start" of the game. There were supposed to be massive updates (which TF2 had set a standard for) - new modes, new heroes, new events, single player content, story content videos, constant patching/updates and almost none of that happened to this day. It was a $40 game (with $60 versions) that also had lootboxes and FOMO.
I can't even put into words how jarring their idea of creating new content (maps, pve modes) etc for events only, and removing them soon afterwards was to someone really new to this game-as-service live content delivery system. That new content was a three week FOMO at best with playercount in freefall after each event as the game became "launch edition + dumb balance changes" during intermittent content droughts. Earlier comp seasons had distinct metas, vibes, and definitely stood out in my memory. The run from around the end of 2 to 6 were definitely the game's peak, so that puts most of the glory days firmly at 2017. At some point theh shortened a season to "barely 2 months" and I've never seen a convincing argument defending that. It meant more casual/fairweather players would need to do placements very often, getting nearly identical scores as how the MMR system worked. A waste of time for the very fodder which makes placements important as you need raw numbers to make a shiny badge next to your profile to mean anything.
I didn't think competitive was ever as memorable until the first season of OW2 comp as lots of new blood both talented and scrubby and maps people didn't know 100% meant some crazy PTFO or elimination-only strats could be used.

The fanbase/hatedom of this game either wished it was more MOBAish or more like TF2, and I was never a fan of ASSFAGGOTS with their small town population of different heroes and balance patches that needed to be studied frequently. I was never of the opinion that OW ever needed more than 24 launch heroes, and definitely not an additional character every big patch some people wanted, Blizz couldn't even balance two dozen, let alone the half-dozen that made up the meta at any point.
A lot of the new hero introductions were frustrating, most notably Doomfist or Ball. An exception is Baptiste, I think I only enjoyed him so much as he was a safer bet than Zenyatta during the peak of Ball in comp. As for TF2 some of the comparisons grew tiring as I have lots of nostalgia for Team Fortress's pre-f2p days but like OW that title is a shell of what it used to be.

TL;DR fuck games-as-service.

And fuck the OWL, they couldn't maintain an organic fandom if they dared try, bribing players every minute to idle those streams.
And remember, this was all to promote their stupid OWL e-sports bullshit, that they tried to emulate the NBA/NFL/etc. with "local teams" that after a year all consisted of people exported from Korea. So not only were they hoping to convince nerds who watch e-sports online to buy tickets to watch a local venue for some fucking reason, the local team likely didn't have players local to the country let alone city/area.
Imagine the potential of creating major regional rivalry (based on server location, digital nomads get fucked!) with routine best players offered a contract with the OWL - introduced via word of mouth a healthy 2-3 years into the game's lifespan. The American East-West Coast rivalry, the Scandis vs Meds, all fun potential matches. Other posters' comments about this game being a mess to watch didn't help, but I also didn't enjoy watching a bunch of young koreans with near identical haircuts and typecasted "personalities" duke it out in near mirror matches for a whole season. I basically wanted to see autistic bastion one-tricks test how far a gimmick character (OW1) could be used.

4chan leaks that are largely unsubstantiated claim that Overwatsh 2 will be retooled into Overwatch Next in an attempt to fix all the problems and bad PR 2 caused, hang in there sisters your skins will still mean something!
I might die laughing if this turns out to be true.

No idea where you heard this because there’s nothing to support it aside from Charlet and Johnny teasing the ship, that and Charlet had been supposedly been with her then-boyfriend-now-husband for several years.

The only thing I ever saw from them was Johnny (as Lucio) asking Charlet out only for her to respond (as D.VA) "I have a boyfriend."

There’s that and a couple other little things: Charlet batting her eyes at Johnny and saying D.Va’s “Hey daddy-o” line after someone asked how Lucio would flirt with the person he liked, along with a video of someone giving Johnny a D.Va body pillow and him acting like he was about to make out with it.

The anniversary event has bugged rewards with providing credits to players. So, Blizzard disabled said rewards. If you log in during Season 7 (October 10-17), you'll get 3000 credits deposited into your account.

I've gotten MY credits from the first winter week. Credits are credits.

I won't use their credits even for free. Hell I even went through and put on the basic skins that you start with, just to not give the impression that I might have purchased anything. I don't want noobs to think this shit is okay.

Overwatch Halloween event looked promising with spooky themed skins and a Diablo 4 crossover event:

The event looks promising as it is a new PvE mode. But Blizzard already killed the hype over the skins as most of the decent ones are paywalled, with the Lilith Moira skin slammed behind a 30-40 USD paywall in a bundle with 2 other shit skins, 1000 coins and the Battle Pass.

Sombra is getting gutted and the whole Tank role getting shat on as well as Sombra mains with her new abilities:

At this point it feels they have retard(s) sitting around employed for the sole purpose of finding ways to turn into shit anything they come up with.

This makes me miss loot boxes even more. Back in the day, they'd have new skins for the holidays. All you needed to do was to play the game regularly for an even chance to snag some event cosmetics. With a skin like THAT, I'd definitely be engaged any chance I get.

Now, it's probably going to be $20 worth of coin to get it. Sigh. @FatalTater was right.

OW2 was nothing more than a con job to make their cash shop significantly more lucrative.

With her rework, are they going to nerf her DMG from her machine pistol? I feel it can be OP as you're hacked and she opens fire on you.

Conspiracy theory: Diablo IV is underselling in Activision's eyes so they're whoring it out on their OTHER IPs.

From what I've seen her gun deals the same damage as pre-rework.

Her new role looks like a tank melter but useless for anyone else who can aim or melee. Since another change to her stealth is a wider detection radius. It's now almost like the radius around Lucio's music.
