Rippa's also primed up his fanbase to see all criticism as 'detractors' attacking him and fodder for his 'monetize the haters' show. If Nick prepped the ground for this better he would have had cover to delete the stream. He didn't. His apology was basically "sorry if you were offended" and saying that he was right but his tone was too far. If he gave a real apology which concluded by "...and because of that I'm taking down the stream." I think it could have played well for him, if anything. This doesn't play well. It plays like he is feeling the heat and is trying to hide from criticism. It adds fuel to the fire. Nick really ought to be able to understand that. The question is why he did it.
