Pokémon (Not-So) Griefing Thread - Scarlet and Violet Released with 10 Million Copies in First 3 Days in Buggy States

It was an accurate real world comparison, so if you feel personally attacked then i don't know what to tell you besides touch grass. The only difference is one has real animals and the other is playing animal breeder simulator for over 9000 hours just to get a 1% stat increase compared to another one you can find in the wild. People even release or put them in storage just like pokemon and try to get irl "shinys" with good "stats", meaning they don't have defects from inbreeding. The other guy saying pokemon eugenics was also incredibly accurate. No one cares what you do with your pokemon because they aren't real, but telling kids they need to act like a digital pug breeder or they are playing competitive wrong is ridiculous and out of touch.

Sanctioned events being inclusive means troons kicking kids out for nervous laughing after they demand their pronouns. Competitive pokemon is cringe just like competitive game tournaments in general. Bragging about being good at a game is bragging about who wasted the most time and the average person wouldn't be impressed. That was kind of my entire point. It's not limited to competitive pokemon. You can still be competitive without acting that way.

My point wasn't defending competitive players, I agree that it's autistic to hatch 10000 eggs for marginally better stats. But if some people think it's fun, who am I to tell them no? I've been guilty of resetting the games for weeks until a model was a different color.

My point was that if you seriously believe that breeding fake pixel monsters is comparable to breeding actual deformed animals in the real world, then you're the one who needs to touch some grass.

No one is saying you are as bad as those people, I'm sorry if you feel some type of way because I made a joke that works in the sense if your character and world it's in were hypothetically (as in we are all aware it's not actually) real it would basically be the same thing. No one cares what you do with your save data because pokemon are not real animals. It's not my fault you fall under the percentage of people unable to understand hypothetical situations to laugh at. If you are seeking validation then fine, i will give it to you. You are not a bad person for breeding pokemon due to your ocd and no one is saying you are. Most of us just feel it is a waste of time and no one is stopping you from doing it. But some people can and will judge you for it, if you don't care then keep doing what you're doing. Just don't get upset when people save their time avoiding that process. You can judge them for it all you want but if you choose to work harder instead of smarter it's on you for spending weeks to do something another can do in minutes and it still pass their detection. Nice "no u" btw.

Subjective taste aside, I've always thought the "it's just the same thing again" argument was dumb because it's really grasping for straws.
I think a lot of people mistake this argument and get lost in the weeds of the minutiae of how things are really different and don't look on the more macro scale. It's not to say that the 'mons that look similar are bad. It's that every together feels like it's design ethos just started with "what was successful in the beginning" and just never building on from there. BW2 remains the only game in recent years I've even gone back to so I don't hate the games. It's just that the original BW just the more you played it, the more it just seemed to be too inspired by the past. Gen 3 and 4 prior still felt like the same core as 1 and 2 but it still felt like it was wanting to do something new in the approach. I don't even like Gen VI and VII but they still had something in an intangible feel to it that everything just jived as fresh. Gen V was the only real time things felt stale because it didn't seem like there was thought put into looking a little forward, only backwards.

I think we need to decouple demographics of players here for a second when talking. You're talking as someone who genuinely loves the franchise, bumps and all. I'm speaking as someone who liked playing the games as they released but didn't really play them for hundreds of hours afterwards. Even friends that started with Gen 3 had an overall underwhelming feeling to 5 and it wasn't just an aging out problem. It's just people's overall indifference to the game (at its time of release) was more just that everything together felt too much the same. I know it will be countered with specifics about how those differences were actually different but that doesn't really discount its contemporary reception.

All this talk of the games "always being the same thing again" confuses me. Genius Sonority proved that you can take the base Pokemon mechanics and battling system and do something COMPLETELY DIFFERENT with it, in mid 2000s mind you. They still remain the most unique, difficult and arguably one of the more fun out of the bunch(and with the best graphics and animations to boot, mogging even the modern switch titles).
Pokemon has endless amounts of potential, you're only seeing the exact same game being released every year because Gamefreak are hacks and try to capture the lightning in a bottle again and again instead of innovating. I will go a step further and claim they're actually jealous of what GS did since you never, ever see any mention of the GC games in any capacity, it's like they don't exist. Who in their right mind wouldn't want to bring back someone like Miror B or maybe a little cameo from Shadow Lugia?(That thing was marketed all over the place between 2004 and 2006)
Have you ever seen any non-Pokemon Gamefreak games? Well, they are not flattering, I will say that much. The A team has no talent, the best games came from the third versions, which had completely different directors trying to do something different, and it worked. Why is XY arguably one of the most "meh" games in the franchise? Because it never got a third version, so you never got to see the game "fixed", you got an unoptimized tech demo for ORAS.
For reference, here is the chart of directors per game, just to give you the idea of who was behind your favorite titles.

I also want to add that it helps to remember that while it IS a kid's franchise, there are kid's franchises that can still appeal to all ages. I don't see why Pokemon shouldn't either. I'm old and retarded and I like Violet, I just wish the devs would do better. Pokemon has crazy gameplay depth, almost like no other game if you're into that kind of thing. I think there is plenty for adults, I just wish Game Freak would stop making it so fuckin' embarrassing.

Since that has been brought up, let me recount you the intro to Pokemon Colosseum for Nintendo Gamecube:
Your character is a criminal that works for a gang of Pokemon thieves. The game starts with him setting off plastic explosives inside the base of his gang, stealing something in the confusion(the device that lets you steal Pokemon from other trainers in-game) and rides off into the sunset on his motorcycle, grinning all the way as you see panicking grunts making their way out of the building and his former boss visibly pissed.
After a short stop at the gas station, where Wes(your character) meets an eccentric Zigzagoon enjoyer, he spots 2 shady individuals making their way to Phenac City, with a big burlap sack. Wes has nothing better to do so he follows them. Once in town, he notices that the sack is moving, so he challenges the two goons and once they run off, finds a teenage girl that was casually kidnapped in broad daylight inside of it. She was being hooved off to god knows where because crime is so bad in this region that nobody bats an eye on something like this anymore. From that point on, the game proper kicks off as Wes decides to take down a second criminal cartel in a row for giggles because that's just how he rolls, all of that entirely with "borrowed" Pokemon he snatches from other trainers as the game has zero wild encounters.

E for Everyone BTW, nobody complained and the story/characters are still one of the better in the franchise(in my opinion). Anyone who tries to make excuse because this is a "kid's franchise" can go shove it, kids don't need to be pampered. As @Atlictoal said, you can still make a game for all ages and make it fun and interesting without resorting to making another Let's Go game for literal toddlers(then again, I think that game was more made for Genwunners in mind, who are de-facto still mentally toddlers). Both Gamecube games have fun and interesting stories and characters that have their own unique flair and try what Gamefreak haven't, all while capturing the spirit of the franchise as a whole and keeping that E for Everyone rating. Nobody is asking for another Shadow The Hedgehog here, just writing that isn't made for literal babies and characters that aren't just coomer bait(or ugly, in case of SV)

My guy, this is the second essay you wrote because I called your comparison gay. I'll repeat as you didn't get it the first time, I don't care for competitive Pokemon, but people have been comparing Pokemon to dogfighting/cockfighting/puppy mills ever since it got popular and it's as tiresome as saying videogames cause mass shootings. It's hard to tell when it's a joke when there are people actually arguing that breeding fake monsters is just as bad as real puppy mills.

I also want to add that it helps to remember that while it IS a kid's franchise, there are kid's franchises that can still appeal to all ages. I don't see why Pokemon shouldn't either. Pokemon has always been a kid's franchise, but is it just me or have they been trying to adapt the games to an even younger crowd? It's especially noticeable after Sun and Moon, you can't walk five steps without a tutorial popping up, you can't explore because everything that's not plot relevant has some ridiculous roadblock, and most routes are straight lines with some tufts of grass on the side. I'm still mad about Ultra Megalopolis.
This even shows up in the spinoffs, the more recent PMD games have lengthier tutorials than the first two, and then there's the new mobile games that seem to be made for toddlers. If I saw a grown man playing Café or Smile I'd mock him relentlessly.

That's what was great about old games, the tutorial was a fun and cool booklet if you wanted information, and if not you could just play the damn game and figure it out. I like in-game tutorials but they need to be concise and optional, though they never are.

Most of the people that burnt out with the series in BW wasn't just because the starters but the fact that Unova just had a fucton of bootleg Gen 1 pokemon. They weren't awful but it was more that it just felt like trying to catch lightning in a bottle twice and with people that grew up with the series, it was just the "nothing is new and shiny enough anymore" to draw those people back. The number of new pokemon was actually good. It's just that a lot felt uninspired like a new Parasect or Machamp. They're not all 1:1 but it just felt like it was retreading ground and that's pretty much all the complaints I really remember. Number: good. Rehashing: meh.

Pokemon was pretty much "dead" at this point and many gen 1 chads quitted after RSE or DPP because they considered themselves to have grown out of it. Take a look at the numbers of sold units.

It was considered uncool and nerdy in my area, but a few people still played secretly. Also younger children got into other franchises instead.
Don't get me wrong, Pokemon was never really dead, but just wasn't so present in public recognition like it is today.
Go and SM have been the reboot that made it widespread popular again.
I think a lot of the hate Gen 5 recieved came from retired pokemon players hating on the game, pointing out it's flaws, claiming to be mature and manly adults who've grown out of this stupid kids game that has no graphic violence or sex in it and is therefore worthless.

Gen 5 was a good generation but got released at the wrong time.

It always makes me mad that Shigeki Morimoto directed my two favorite Pokemon games, Emerald and HGSS, and then they never let him direct again. Let my man free to make another banger.

As someone who never went up to random children throughout the years and asked their opinion on Pokemon, I can only agree with the sales showing it being dead by then based off my own groups mostly agreeing with that assessment. I was the only one in any of my circles that even purchased XY. And none of the younger siblings directly related to me or friends ever started playing Pokemon DPPt or later that I'm aware of so this checks out.
Gen 5 was a good generation but got released at the wrong time.
Yeah. I'd agree with this.

Your comment brought me back all the way to 2011. As someone who started with Pokemon White and joined the fandom shortly after, I can say that it was divided in a way not unlike what we're seeing now.

You can't tell nowadays because the people who grew up with gen V are now making posts and videos praising it, but back then gen V was extremely unpopular, it's still the lowest-selling generation to this day thanks to the backlash it got on release.
You could not enjoy Black and White without someone bitching about the ice cream or the garbage bag. It got so bad that when gen VI rolled around the fandom collectively told the genwunners to shut up and never speak again. Any bitching about Garbodor, Klinklang or Vanilluxe got immediately shut down with Muk, Magneton and Voltorb.

And the funny thing is this still affects the games and the fandom. Game Freak became so pathologically afraid of trying anything new that the next generations, especially gen VI, were filled with Kanto pandering. If you criticize modern Pokemon designs, someone will remind you of Raticate, Krabby, Dewgong, Voltorb, Magneton and Muk, even if you're not a Kanto fan.

I completely forgot about that, I remember how mocked Pokemon was at my school during the late Gen 4 era and most of Gen 5. I don't think this sentiment didn't vanish that much until Pokemon Go made it globally popular again.
It's so weird to think back to because nowadays adults barely seem self conscious about displaying their merchandise or creating a money market out of the TCG.

And now they're over correcting themselves. There are constant complaints about too much Kanto pandering, yet there are no signs of it slowing down anytime soon. I don't see whats so hard about throwing the other gens a bone. At least Johto got some love with the recent evolutions.

What happens when you send a pokemon with a event only move to scarlet a violet. Do they still have the move in their memory?

it also was the era everybody got a smartphone, folks preferred playing Gen 1-3 on Emulator over NDS
