Cats with kidney disease can live comfortable lives with the right treatment, but knowing the sad circumstances with Mama Frigly and the likelihood that Staph's parents are footing veterinary bills, I don't think they would be willing to pay out the ass for veterinary prescription food to prolong his quality of life.

Or maybe I am wrong and the parents love that cat dearly, it's hard to tell.

Even if Mum's medical bills are completely covered by insurance or some sort of scheme, being extremely ill for years is expensive. There's often special foods because normal food can't be tolerated. There's the cost of parking at the hospital, the caretaker spouse having no option but to eat at the hospital cafeteria because they cannot go home. There's having to pay a third party for cleaning, maintenance and repairs to property because the well spouse is too busy caring for the other half to do their normal duties. There's helpful devices that aren't technically necessary but make life so much easier. There's things like vitamins and supplements that the sick spouse needs, but aren't covered the way prescription medication is. Wear and tear on the car or cost a taxi. The mortgage isn't being paid because on spouse is too sick to work, and the other spouse has to quit work to take care of them.

The list just goes on and on. Staph had better hope that Mum and Dad own their house outright and that the medical bills are covered, otherwise she's going to be left with nothing after they're both gone and the estate is settled.
