Diseased #Comicsgate - The Culture Wars Hit The Funny Books!

It's 2023 and he's still desperate as fuck to use CG as a boogeyman to sell his book. It's been 5 years and barely anyone talks about them unless they want an easy punching bag. That just tells me the book is trash and he has no faith in it. Also making Alan Scott gay ruins the dynamic he had with his son

If my Analing of the histories is too much I will stop. If anyone is interested perhaps I could put together all these events in chronological order. Or I could stop.

- EVS founds 'the Fandom Menace' movement as a Star Wars nerd-to-niche retard comic book drama pipeline for his actual movement
- EVS leaves TFM out of boredom, while he's gone some weird meth guy named Nerdrotic takes over the operation and turns it into a tightly run grifting machine
- EVS returns to abort his baby the Fandom Menace with a coathanger after they side with Zack Snyder and his astroturfed Snydercut movement against his WB executive pal Geoff Johns over the Justice League movie franchise
- EVS launches Cyberfrog 2, the TFM successor group Friday Night Tights refuse to support him. he threatens to coathanger the zeroes too but they're too strong now on account of their much larger target demo for grifting
- EVS forms a dark pact with other sector entities like Masterson and Rekieta to help devour his errant children like a mad Saturnus; Dick will be gifted the blood tithe of the black shepherd under a harvest moon for his services.
X - we are here
- The Gunted Nurgle crosses through the portal, causing a full dimensional merge

after all these years I hope @FROG pays you well.....

For anyone out of the loop, the fate of this board is being discussed and it looks like it will be in a subforum called Grift Wars.

I'm hoping @Null reads this or some of the other staff/mods.

This is the time for a new OP. It was very recently discussed in the thread, past few pages in the midst of the Eric July/Dick/Vito/Nick thing that has stirred things up. @Mister Dongs and @Mecha II posts lay the groundwork for a chronological history up to this date OP that we need. I think @Mister Dongs should write the OP @Mecha II and @Ike Aim have a lot to contribute to that also. There were other good posters here like @Smug Freiza but a lot of them went MIA as frankly this "movement" has been winding down as a relevant force.

Also there are a number of side threads that could be iced in spergatory or moved, but fit in the historical lore of Comicsgate.
comicsgate-hangers-on-and-drama-whores splinter thread with sperging by thread banned people and a series of dox posts
Umbrella Guy
Vikkiverse / DA Talks
Yellow Flash
Raging Golden Eagle
Liam Gray
George Alexopoulos
Sheila Aliens
Vox Day

Anyhow this is the perfect opportunity to have a much needed new OP, the outdated 2018 OP should be archived, but leads to confusion that this is still largely about fighting woke Marvel DC people and not the trash fire of infighting and backstabbing that it is. It needs a good "this is what it is/these are the important events/these are the major players" OP similar to the IP2 community OP.

Here are the recent posts I mentioned that give a big head start to organizing a new OP:
Eric July turned to everyone for advice. Frog. Frog's friends. Frog's enemies too. He's sort of like 19th Meiji-era Japan where he took everything that worked for everyone else and discarded the rest. When the time was right and he felt he no longer had to, ole Rippa has stopped holding his tongue and begun presenting his own novel theories as to the problems regarding comics and fandom, as befits his recently earned station as leader. This raises the total number of Comicsgate theses to three.

  • Ya Boi Zack: The first thesis, articulated by Richard C. Meyer in the early days of CG in the form on an interminable number of youtube videos made on his phone, railed against (along with many other things) the idea of a "comics community". The socialization of comic book fans has led to a customer base that was coerced into accepting substandard work on threat of exclusion, and forced creators into being exploited for substandard pay, also on threat of exclusion. Substandard work for substandard pay. Given how the Comicsgate fandom has turned out, it's hard to disagree. The way free of this was was to reject the concept of community and hold the industry to a basic standard of customer service. The famous "we're running hot dog stands out here" analogy. The problem with Zack's stance of anti-fandom was that there were also vital benefits to having a fandom, like an engaged and loyal audience as well as incredibly potent marketing far more effective than traditional advertising, tools that are employed by the most powerful media corporations in the world that CG was supposed to bring to heel. When forced on what to replace a fan community with, Zack had nothing. On top of that, his customer service was atrocious, which kind of took the wind out of his customer-centric advocacy. Unable to admit his ideas were flawed but also unable to address the glaring problems in his theories out of pride, Zack receded into the background to sneed, where he's been ever since.
  • Ethan van Sciver: The second theory was never formallly presented together either, but is what I've managed to piece together out of a million meandering Frog anecdotes. Immersed in comics fandom for decades as a high-level creator, Frog identified the decline of print journalism, and of comics publicity 'zines like Wizard specifically, as a major cause in the decline of comics fandom and the perceived (and real) worth of comic creators. A great fan of the then-recent Gamergate and IBS scenes seemingly making instant celebrities out of otherwise marginal figures, Frog developed a theory of comic creators working together to become their own YT-driven publicity machines, adoping larger than life personas like Wizard used to present them as. This would be a fandom with no publisher, no editor or corporate owner holding the reigns - a compact purely between fan and creator. So basically the exact opposite of Zack's theory. This definitely drove attention, and blew Zack's ideas into the shoe store netherrealm without even realizing he did it or why Zack was pissed, but the madness of an unchecked fandom has been chronicled on for thousands of pages in this thread. Only now that Frog has been supplanted as 'top dog' and can no longer simply point at his campaign totals as absolute proof of his arguments has he been forced to come to terms with some of the unintended consequences of what he's done. The much greater committment and stress of being a constantly online semi-kayfabe e-celeb vs being featured in a Wizard puff piece. How the insatiable lust for attention of 'creators' from 'fans' has supplanted any passion for the original cause, and eventually even the comics themselves. When defending the value of criticism, he related (again) the story of how one of the few people he could find that was critically engaging with the actual story of Cyberfrog in a meaningful way... was Vikki. The 'Van Sciver method' of crowdfunding has been adopted by all sorts of people that couldn't give a fuck about comics but do have followings. One can't imagine that Andrew Tate launching a $99 "collectible" comic that looks like it was drawn by a child to bilk his paypig cult using the 'Van Sciver method' fills Frog with pride as a would-be champion of the medium. Especially because he didn't get a cut.
  • Eric July: Outlined in his video released a couple of weeks ago "Making Money in Comics - The Overview", this is probably the closest that CG and the CG-adjascent have come to presenting a formal thesis. Promising 'brutal truth' that 'certain people aren't going to like', July lays out the reasons the western comic industry is dying: the business model is bad. A corrupt and monopolistic cabal between publishers, distributors and makeshift local comic shops formed decades ago that simply isn't competitive against big box bookstores and streamlined supply chain service models. All those middlemen must take large cuts to eke out a marginal existence and have been made obsolete by manga. And even in it's "glory days", comics was a pathetic niche compared to other entertainment mediums. The business model was always bad. Regarding the advent of crowdfunding, Eric states that while it has decentralized the necessary capital to start a business, it has opened the door to shirkers "[who] have no business bone in their body that no idea what they're doing", and 'comic creatives on youtube' who's 'expertise' is in a is in a dysfunctional and soon to be gone way of doing things best left in the dustbin of history. These unnamed pros have never run an actual business before in their lives, just corporate worker bees who fell backwards into money by accident. Listen to them on matters of creating the comic itself, but nothing else. The viewer on the other hand, they have the opportunity to do things properly with a clean slate, and July is willing to help with some basic guidance he's learned on his journey. Said journey led him to conclude that the best course of action for an operation of his scale was starting a full publishing business with salaried workers, budgets, books completed in advance by professional creators from the mainstream, and a solid business plan modeled around the realities of what a comic publishing house operating in 2023 are. As far as Eric July's fandom fueling this business, the Rippaverse, it will be centered around himself and the Rippaverse products owned by him. The values held and championed by the Rippaverse are detailed clearly and in writing in the 'Rippaverse Code of Ethics'. Anything not contained within his property and his stated code is not his problem. Other people can learn from what he's doing and follow suit, or not. Not his problem. Fans now have a choice of going with the mainstream comic fandom (fandom A) or joining the Rippaverse fandom (fandom B), which in concept will be (other than the RCoE) indistinguishable from one another and fling shit at each other like retarded monkeys until the end of time. Have at it. #WeWillWin.

The “big fat black guy” is Antonio Brice, and I’m not sure why he fell off the map, he used to stream with EVS regularly and then was no longer around or mentioned.
He was a Drexel prototype who talked about his sexual exploits who apparently ran a arbys or another fast food chain. His book BRAND was announced in 2018 & was funded mostly everyone received copies in 2021 or late 2020. BRAND 2 also was announced in 2020 but nothing. He did a failed collab with foodie youtuber Daym Drops where they put alot of their own money on a book than the campaign made. So 1 out of 3 campaigns were completed.

Speaking of that whole mess, @FROG recently went off about Brice/Canaan White and the Daym Drops burger book. He revealed that Caanan White was offered the ISOM gig but turned it down to do the total laughable failure burger book! He did end up working on some covers of ISOM under a pen name which @FROG doxes on stream. It's in this video 1:04:35 to the end 1:19:06 Pretty funny stuff, also directly preceded the whole EVS/Eric July dust up.

Wasn't Canaan supposed to do evs's mecha book back in 2018? I know it was called rustbelt/American manga as a working title.

after all these years I hope @FROG pays you well.....
Hey newb, I appreciate the sperg a-log energy, but it's misplaced here. Dongs is the archivist par excellence of all things tangentially related to CG. No, he hasn't turned to the dark side, but he's one of the most clear-headed and fair-minded around here and this allows him to mull through what would normally be completely indigestible hours of boredom and/or cringe. If you stick around long enough, you'll find plenty of his criticism thrown Sciverfrog's way. If it weren't for his lengthy summations and reports, I wouldn't have most of my a-log fuel to start with, so I appreciate the harvest he provides and the marrow in the bones he leaves for the rest of us.

He's cool. No homo. Senior D is like Switzerland, no attac.

So, how's Doug? Is he still putting out books or still in the qanon shtick?
Still doing both.

That’s the fun thing about most pros. They tend to just do things quietly after setting themselves up with their audiance.

Really Eric would have become exactly the same if not for the slapfight with Dick

if you make a new op I can replace the existing one with it
There is sooooo much lore/history here since 2019 or so. I remember posting regarding Zack in the first few pages of this thread. This should be a significant undertaking in my opinion. Also, how would it be done in an unbiased fashion? A lot of people have spicy opinions about people (looking at @FROG )
