When I questioned this before, the consensus was that the residuals are paid every time someone renews a policy.

A little side tangent here but the most insufferable people on twitter are the people who have their bluesky hugbox link in their bio but refuse to leave. Elon Musk is a poopy Nazi evil man because the site is no longer heavily censored but I won't leave the site because I thrive on attention and I will get 1/100th the engagement on the hugbox!!! Fatrick is the perfect example of this. He thinks Elon has ruined the site and is evil but he knows for a fact if he leaves no one is going to follow him off to alt websites.

It depends on your agreement. As long as 10 years is common so long as the premiums keep getting paid. It can really be anything, although as little as two years is uncommon as are terms like "forever."
