But the third part of this is the most terrifying one to think about: Can you imagine what would have happened if these people weren't fucking morons? They were already in collusion to this degree, exhibiting this level of control on social media, and involved with this widespread an attempt to damage anyone who went against them. Even with these people being like this, a lot of the worst offenses committed by these shits we wouldn't have believed if the evidence hadn't been right in front of us. Thankfully, their ranks included histrionic shrieking professional victims, convicted sex offenders, several insane troons, and a bunch of people with egos, impossibly, larger than those of Jay Geis, and I think, hilariously, this may have been the most important aspect of the entire Gamergate song-and-dance for the Internet as a whole. People are going to be aware of groups like this in the future, and I think they'll be increasingly unwilling to nibble the bait as time goes on.

Jaimas, I just played through Human Revolution and I'm looking forward to Mankind Divided when I get paid next, I don't need the IRL version. Though, if that makes us the Sarif Industries to their dumbed-down Illuminati, so be it.

I often think this about spammers and phishers: what if they didn't make huge stupid mistakes in every communication? What if they spent ten bucks and got a native English speaker to proofread their junk?

It's tempting to think there's a natural overlap between stupid and evil, but that's probably just primitive tribal thinking on my part.

I read somewhere that Nigerian-style scammers don't bother to make their emails more plausible because that makes it more likely that someone will wise up halfway through and mean that they exerted a lot of effort for no payoff. That doesn't happen too often with the ridiculous messages that they actually send- anyone who falls for those probably will fall for anything that gets thrown at them.

And Laurelai enters the ring by telling Ian Miles Cheong there's stuff he doesn't know.

Laurelai is the perfect person to unleash the full details and story as she burns bridges with shitty people like Chelsea/Zoe. Wouldn't be surprised if it was Laurelai who leaked all this stuff in the first place. Either directly or through other channels.

I disagree, the clique made sure to exclude Laurelai. They knew she was poisonous, and a snitch. If Laurelai was used, it was through third parties.

Oh yes Chelsea, that illustrious journalism career really worked out great for you, didn't it? You were almost there, just about to really put gamergate in their place.

Now you all you can do is sit back and watch as the one and only Wu pulls off the transition between failed game developer to hack journalist, the true path of excellence amongst exceptional individuals that you weren't able to achieve.

It's fascinating, gamergate wouldn't even be anything if it wasn't for them. They just kept giving GG more ammo and, ultimately, reason for existing until it had gotten so big that almost the entire gaming industry became aware of the issues GG was against. Imagine fucking up so badly that you turn your enemies from nobodies into borderline war heroes.

The whole thing was a massive backfiring for them, which seems to have brought more hope to people who were sick of their shit(read: everyone else).

When the fuck has Zoe Quinn ever showed any discipline in consistently producing material of any kind other than whining about being a victim?

No fucking way dude.

I can think of one area where she's shown discipline: Internet skullduggery. Remember her run-in with Candace Owens? Her deployment of sockpuppets and use of allies in the media was chillingly effective. Trying to talk Owens out of her project and then chimping out was a dumb move on Chelsea's part, but everything after that was devastating. She zeroed in on the most harmful smear she could make -- "doxing children" -- and blasted it across Twitter as well as the Kickstarter page using sock puppets. She then got Jesse Singal to knock Owens for a loop by approaching her as a sympathetic journalist and then running a blatant hit piece. And most of the media coverage of Owens then referred to her as a "crypto-GamerGate supporter." Demolition accomplished, although Owens managed to eventually figure out what was going on and get Chelsea to back down.

Actually, it was so competently done I wonder if Chelsea was in the driver's seat or someone else in her circle, one of the few with brains, was doing the real work.

Cross posting here since it's Quinn related from the Wu thread:

Breaking news, seem Geth scared the shit out of someone, because Medium forced him to take down his story "Brianna Wu: Zoe Quinn's Biggest Mistake" off Medium:

https://www.reddit.com/r/KotakuInAc...dium_made_me_take_down_my_post_on_brianna_wu/

It's rehosted on Allthink and he doesn't act rattled in the least, but he raises a perfectly good question:

".....I do wonder just who complained of it and why."

You can call it a massive backfire, but there are several people literally making a living off of being ostensible victims of this shit. I'll deal with people calling me mean names on the internet if it makes me $36K a year, I don't give a fuuuuck.

Yeah but job security sucks and when the hipster money dries up, good luck getting a high paying job like an entry level IT (avg. pay is $50K and up). You have to consider that these morons are in their early 20's to 30's at the latest - ten years down the road the next generation is not going to have any idea who these fucks are and certainly not going to want to give them money for any cause.

What an absolutely bullshit reason when the logs are already in the public domain. Guess you can't discuss Watergate on Medium, either. Or anything which originated from Wikileaks.

That's why Silverstring Media exists. The #1 mistake the media establishment made was installing Chelsea as a figurehead and then letting her do her own PR. When the next GG-style manufactured controversy comes around, the "victim" will be surrounded by professional handlers who filter everything they say and control their image. It'll be outrage trolling the N'Sync way instead of the Motley Crue way.

It's fascinating, gamergate wouldn't even be anything if it wasn't for them.

That goes both ways, though.

Without the Zoe post and the resulting explosion of autism, Zoe Quinn would have gotten some asspats from indie-focused game journalists but, like the majority of little art games, her choose-your-own-adventure game would have eventually faded from memory. Quinn would have bounced around the indie scene for a bit until the bubble inevitably popped, which would have happened even without Gamergate, and that would have been it.

Instead, she was turned into a kind of martyr, which boosted her career, her reach, and her visibility.

It's a short term strategy though. These are people who are still relatively young. Zoe will collect a few grand a year off this stuff for awhile. Maybe even get a token job doing voicework in a video game. But this isn't something that's going to last well into the future. You aren't making a career out of this. The people giving $20 a month to these people aren't going to be doing this a decade from now. There will be new social justice issues and new professional victims.

I guess what I'm saying is that these people are going to hit 40 years old at some point with no skills, no job history, and a whole crapload of search results that would turn off any future employer. They all took the easy way out because they are lazy and years down the line they'll be paying the price for it.
