But the third part of this is the most terrifying one to think about: Can you imagine what would have happened if these people weren't fucking morons? They were already in collusion to this degree, exhibiting this level of control on social media, and involved with this widespread an attempt to damage anyone who went against them. Even with these people being like this, a lot of the worst offenses committed by these shits we wouldn't have believed if the evidence hadn't been right in front of us. Thankfully, their ranks included histrionic shrieking professional victims, convicted sex offenders, several insane troons, and a bunch of people with egos, impossibly, larger than those of Jay Geis, and I think, hilariously, this may have been the most important aspect of the entire Gamergate song-and-dance for the Internet as a whole. People are going to be aware of groups like this in the future, and I think they'll be increasingly unwilling to nibble the bait as time goes on.
