"Zero Punctuation" and "Dev Diary" by Ben "Yahtzee" Croshaw - The only thing worth watching on The Escapist

  • 🐕 I am attempting to get the site runnning as fast as possible. If you are experiencing slow page load times, please report it.
He's fallen victim to the 'I want to make the dish not critique it' syndrome that affects so many reviewers. Maybe one day someone will get the hint and try the Gordon Ramsay approach of switching careers in the opposite direction. That seems like it might be more fulfilling and successful. You've already made your bones so theres nothing left to prove. Then you move on to judge others.

He did make a few horror-themed video games in AGS over a decade ago but he has the money and connections to actually make his own video game. Hire a few people to crank out a demo, maybe bouncing some ideas off of other people, put it on Kickstarter (which would be an instant success and on to the stretch goals), and start working on a full release. Then do a video ON the game and disguise self-aggrandizing as self-deprecation. (It might even be a fun game to actually play.)

you'd probably hate his podcast, Slightly Something Else. They (him and his co-host Marty) discuss a topic, or attempt to discuss a gaming topic for like 20 - 30 minutes and then read super chats for an hour, while begging for money, talking about Nick, and holding onto jokes for way too long.
I remember seeing a clip where someone superchats from Florida talking about watching while sheltering from a hurricane, and Yahtzee said something about how he should be less worried about the hurricane and more worried about that evil Rethuglikkkan Ron DeSantis.

there's some ongoing massive drama at The Escapist, and Yahtzee has quit. looks like it's over for the Escapist... except they're still retaining the rights to Zero Punctuation, lol.

update1 for anyone coming from Happenings: Nick J Calandra, the editor in chief at the Escapist, was fired, causing a mass resignation event that included Yahtzee. the reason given by Nick is that he was fired for "not achieving goals", which can mean anything.

FUCK ME. That's a big one.
Well, I suppose that's why they're promoting dogshit like this:

I'm assuming he's been given the release date of the SH2 remake and/or seen Ascension and felt a massive disturbance from the mine complex underneath the barrel.

It is staggering to me that he basically created a product that kept another company afloat for years which effectively does not exist outside of his product and at the end of this he has nothing to show for it. His life's work, completely owned by another man after 15 years.

Yahtzee lost me on that cringe-ass “review” of Hogwarts Legacy. I don’t give a fuck about reviews outside of their entertainment content but that one was just a tranny dick sucking attempt for, I dunno, clout? Get fucked lmao

As a small consolation the new owner will be completely unable to do much with it, what with a dying company and the actual creator (the writer and only voice of the show) out of the picture.

So firings followed by a mass quitting in protest. The Escapist is absolutely fucked without Yahtzee.

yeah, i just had a look at the discord server. Nick J Calandra, the editor in chief, was fired, and Yahtzee and others resigned en masse.
