Yes, but they started mending fences back with Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles and Tactics Advance, and that was over 20 years ago. Sony still got the mainline Final Fantasy games (back when that mattered).

This game technically belongs to Square which happens to have Mario characters and the fact that we're getting a remake at all means they are cooperative now.

It's not a woke thing this time. They removed the peace sign because Miyamoto is an autist about it and banned the peace sign from all Mario games after 64. (Though Odyssey did slip through somehow.)

Yes, I'm completely serious.
TLDR: Miyamoto thinks the peace sign is childish, and doesn't want Mario to be explicitly childish.

Merio's done the peace sign in so many games after the supposed "ban" I always took it as a rumor and still do. He does do it less though, so I always took those statements as a kinda jesting statement about them over using it for a bit and reeling it back after that with only occasional uses when it made more sense.

I've seen that thing happening again wheretons of otherwise reasonable people are going skinwalker mode more and going "oh see it's an OFFENSIVE GESTURE IN THE UK IT MAKES TOTAL SENSE TO REMOVE IT! WHY DO YOU CARE? ARE YOU SERIOUSLY OFFENDED BY SOME SMALL CHANGE!?!" in response to other people just bringing it up and being like "huh that's kinda weird/shitty" . A number of long time friends did it earlier a few days ago when I was laughing about it and it fucking made me realize yet again how many people, including those closer to each other have been sucked into this fake ass twitter/reddit clout fueled hell world to the point where there's no updoots or anyone to impress they still feel the need to not even think about why I'd consider it funny and just parrot talking points they heard from others.

IIRC the mario 64 DS instance was a DS graphics limitation thing and the fact there were 4 different character models.

Mario wonder is a video game where the characters shout WOWIE ZOWIE and turn into cartoon elephants. That wouldn't be out of place in a cartoon for small kids, and yet the peace sign is too childish.
