Weight loss support thread

Diet and light cardio is all you need.

The easiest thing to do is to cut out the sodas. You don’t need soda, so why cut down? No half measures, cut it out. If you absolutely need something fizzy, get sparkling water.

As far as light cardio, a 30 minute walk is a good start. Your knees are supporting a lot of weight, so you shouldn’t be power walking or running for a long time.

When your ready, after you’ve figured out what kind of dieting is working for you and you see progress, look into intermittent fasting as the next step in losing weight.

Lastly, it’s not a race, it’s a marathon, it will take time to get to your target weight, and once your there, figure out your next goal.

Good luck!
That's what I was pretty much thinking. I'm not expecting to get in shape within a month, just eventually.

Should say that what I mean by "cutting down" on soda is to eventually reach the point of drinking none of it.
I'm leaning towards reducing it gradually as going cold turkey from the start hasn't worked out that well for me in the past with this addiction.

Every time I think I'm going to cut out soda, I end up drinking a ton of it again within a week.

I've finally decided to cut carbs out of my life and increase protein intake, because I've gained a shitload of weight in the last year alone.

It's honestly eye opening how many things labelled as “healthy” are jam packed with loads of carbs. Stuff that I previously thought were good for me were poisoning me this whole time.

I have also decided to do more cardio than just walking for an hour a day.

Wish me luck KiwiBros

I'm on the tipping point of fat right now, I can either go down the path of the landwhale beanbag or start getting off my ass and doing something for my health.
Choosing the latter after seeing the deathfats board again - any advice for going from nothing to something in fitness?

Like others have said, diet matters more for weight than fitness, but fitness is always a worthy goal for its own sake because of the general mental and physical health benefits.

As for good ways to start: start off small and make it as enjoyable as possible (listen to your favorite music or a good podcast as you walk, although if you prefer silence to think stick to that) and try to add as much accountability as possible (tell everyone you know that you always walk for X minutes on Sundays, so you feel stupid if you don't. Post pictures of interesting things you see on your walks on Facebook, so your boomer relatives still on Facebook will start bugging you for updates if you suddenly stop. Get a walking buddy. Whatever works)

Every diet out there, they all work nigga you just rack disciprin nigga.
Time to go, puke what you just ate.

This is peak diet performance. Path to become a god.

Absolutely just swap soda for seltzer/sparkling water and you will be fine. I prefer mine with nothing added but a little flavor, but even if its 12-packs with maybe 10-20 calories per can you are doing yourself a huge favor while keeping the carbonation you associate with drinking soda. There's tons of flavors out there so just start buying them and trying them, you might find some that you like more than soda.

It's good to take bad foods out of your diet but it is more important to add good things. I will always eat waffles but I always make sure to eat it with fruit and yogurt. Eat the things you love and add good foods as well.

Candidly, you have this backwards. Not taking out bad foods(and eating too many calories) is a far more common point of failure than not eating enough "good" food. Furthermore fruit is not a good example of an inherently "good" food, particularly from a weight loss perspective. Most fruit has only marginally less sugar than candy(Blueberries are somewhat better in this regard) and is not a particular cost-effective way of getting fiber. The benefits from natural sugar vs corn syrup have little to no effect on how much weight you gain or lose. In that regard from the neck down sugar is sugar.
The "good" things you want to eat are better measured in terms of macros. You need to get a certain amount of protein to sustain muscle mass. You will want a certain amount of fat for energy. You should be getting your daily recommended fiber intake both for regularity and appetite suppression. Green vegatables are great for making meals feel more filling even when fewer calories are present. Even simple carbs have their place in moderation when you need quick energy for physical activity. Beyond that, you should be able to eat whatever you want so long as you stay within your daily calories.

This weigh-in I am at exactly 202.0#. From a starting weight of 308# that makes a TOTAL WEIGHT LOSS OF 106# SO FAR. Still the same eating/gym/calorie counting and exercise routine. Of course slowed down a bit due to colder weather and holidays. 30.jpg

Agreed, the most simple lemon or lime flavored sparkling water taste almost like diet sprite. When you get more used to it, regular soda start to taste bad

Made the commitment to loose some weight and get fitter. Tired of being a fat fuck so joined the gym and started on a diet.

Started on the 5th of Jan at 255lbs..at the weigh in today i am now at 246lbs. Still got a long way to go and want to drop another 50lbs.

I figure that the first few weeks will be big gains seeing as i am off the sugar and junk food..so making the most of it while i can. Going to the Gym 6 days a week at the moment and doing mostly cardio with 2-3 weight/resistance exercises.

I have discovered that while i hate running I enjoy treadmills so go figure

That's great progress for only 2 weeks. You'll have some bounce back from random volatility and water, keep up the pace

So I really need to get serious about losing weight, and keeping it off. I suppose this is as good a place as any to post updates.
My biggest problem is drinking, and the bad decisions that come with it. So I'll start working on that and resolve to come back with positive updates.
I'm in the same place. Wishing you success!

Yep..been tracking my weight so seen what i am guessing is bounce back..weight drops then goes back up .5lb or so for a day or two before dropping back again.

So I started putting my nose to the grind stone on Monday, stuck with a good diet and followed an exercise program that has worked for me before. Lost almost 5 lbs as of the morning. It's the weekend that fucks me up. I have a good plan, really I just need to not drink on Saturday, and find something productive to do on Sunday. I'll post a Monday update about how it goes.

Carbs aren't bad by themselves. I'd recommend to eat a balanced diet and cut out the sugars. They are the real culprit.
And stick to carbs that come from wholefoods. They mostly get digest differently (slower) and lead to a different insulin response.

Every time I think I'm going to cut out soda, I end up drinking a ton of it again within a week.
Try replacing it with something. Quitting something and leaving a vacuum increases the chance of you just falling back into the habit. Maybe non or lightly sweetend tee?
