It has nothing to do with her being too pretty for him or him being a single dad.

The idea is that if you're unable or unwilling to take care of yourself and the people who already depend on you, it's not a great look to pursue and attempt a romantic relationship with somebody else. It's stereotypical deadbeat dad.
