I am pretty old and I used to work with them, as well as Microchannel RS/6000s. The plug and play was a godsend, the systems worked really well, they were a fucking delight to work on (many had 100% toolless cases, I could no-tool dismantle a Model 50 to its component parts in like 2-3 minutes). The bus, especially in later 32 bit form with data-over-address streaming mode was hard to beat performance-wise until PCI stuff got good. (With the caveat that VLB was great for video, but then just go get a Model 76 with an embedded VLB video card...)I guess I have to ask - how does one come to be a PS/2 autist? Is there something that drew you to it in the first place?
So yeah, I liked the PCs. I also worked in an IBM shop for a while (token ring, even some 3270 terminal stuff) and it was... Fairly good times.
