Epic! 8-bitguy uses 1 weird trick to detroy rare prototypes!

I guess I have to ask - how does one come to be a PS/2 autist? Is there something that drew you to it in the first place?
I am pretty old and I used to work with them, as well as Microchannel RS/6000s. The plug and play was a godsend, the systems worked really well, they were a fucking delight to work on (many had 100% toolless cases, I could no-tool dismantle a Model 50 to its component parts in like 2-3 minutes). The bus, especially in later 32 bit form with data-over-address streaming mode was hard to beat performance-wise until PCI stuff got good. (With the caveat that VLB was great for video, but then just go get a Model 76 with an embedded VLB video card...)

So yeah, I liked the PCs. I also worked in an IBM shop for a while (token ring, even some 3270 terminal stuff) and it was... Fairly good times.

Adrian's a weird one to me. He's got enthusiasm and good techniques but a lot of knowledge gaps that seem odd.
He mentioned on one his videos (or maybe a podcast?) a while back that his day job is cybersecurity. The hardware repair stuff is self-taught, and he started in his early 40s. That'd explain the knowledge gaps, but I'm still impressed with his skills considering he's only been doing this stuff for about 5 years.

To be fair, he did reach out to Adrian Black after he couldn't get an arcade machine board fixed. Adrian discovered straight away that David had put one of the chips on backwards.

Funny thing is that Adrian didn't actually fix the original problem because he completely skipped over the power supply.

I know I'd sign up to a VWestlife or Shango066 Patreon in a heartbeat, though maybe I enjoy these creators more than most is because these guys don't have Patreon.
Boy have I got news for you then, the last based man in California does in fact have a Patreon. He just never e-begs in his videos and buries the link in his video description: https://www.patreon.com/shango066

VWestlife seems to have an account too, but it's probably just so he can support the people he likes: https://www.patreon.com/vwestlife/creators

In current year, this is as good as not having a Patreon at all.

He's quite a prolific poster in the comments sections for a couple of the creators I follow on Patreon, so I think you may be right. Dude seems like a complete sperg, but a wholesome one whose video style is stuck in 2007... which is probably why I enjoy his videos so much.

One of the Mega 65 team members flew from seattle to the metroplex to let david check it out.

Feels incredibly on-brand for the 8-Bit Guy to have the wisdom and foresight to see that good time on YouTube wouldn't last, and then plunge into two incredibly risky ventures (CX16 and the arcade) as a backup plan.
The broken power supply symbolizes the state of creator revenue on youtube and the paperclip symbolizes investing everything into poorly planned toys for manchildren.

Although in typical David fashion, it'll probably all work out in the end.

David has to have a big enough horde of retro junk that was sent to him for free to sell it all on ebay and coast along for a couple years if he wanted to by this point, doesn't he? There's no way than man has less than $100k worth of gear poked into every nook and cranny of his house.

He's also a proven low-level programmer with connections to manufacturing in the Texas triangle. I'm pretty sure even if stuff went completely tits up he could always fall back to programming industrial control systems.

the demand for programers familiar with archaic programming languages, while quite low and diminishing, is very lucrative.
at some point these old units will make way for the newer shit, out with the apple 1, in with the internet connected IOT cloud controlled rasberry pi.
but who knows, they may be around for another 10 years, david has a lot of time to learn something newer like python to keep his job because YouTube, pateron and his side hustels won't be able to pay the bills anymore.

since videos appear to be unblocked, here's when he quit his dayjob:
And here's how it's working out for him:

Update: apparently things are still fucked.
I didn't know CDR discussion happened in this thread, I figured it just became a de-facto 8-bit Guy thread after he fucked up that rare computer.

CRD is a "person of interest" to me. I made a short post about him in the "personal lolcows" thread in Animal Control here, because yes he is a gross furry with a piss/shit fetish.

oh, in that case I no longer feel bad for him.

His main complaints are a blown sewer line and his appendix exploding. You come in with the missing madlib. "shitplay".
It wasn't his job that was killing him, it was the ________!

It was originally an 8-Bit Guy thread but it's sort of morphed into a general 'retrotech youtuber' thing once we ran out of David vids to talk about.

CRD's furry shit is somewhat known about in this thread, but we mostly focus on his obnoxious numale leftism and his live-in jobless tranny SO (who I'm assuming used to be a normal gay man CRD was in a gay relationship with and is now merely tolerating).

The optics would be pretty poor, though.

Nostalgia Nerd has recently started selling off a fair bit of his gear, some the items being channel donations, and he's been copping some grief over it. Some people reckon it's because his arcade-themed vegan bar is tanking, to the point where his former partner wants nothing to do with it (and him) anymore.

That said, NN is a lolcow himself, and not just because of his on-again off-again relationship with Octav1us (who really needs her own thread on here at some stage).

This thread has become a catch-all for vintage computing YouTubers in general, even though David is still the main event.

David seems to have fallen for the AI generated thumbnail trend seen in his latest video:

Since he can swap it out at any moment (it's a known trick among big YouTubers to occasionally swap out video thumbnails to increase engagement), I'm immortalizing it with a screenshot

You're not gonna mention how he almost killed himself by CO poisoning because he ran a gas heater inside without even cracking a window?

Have not gotten to watching the video yet, just wanted to point out the thumbnail first. I know with these types of videos he tends to fuck something up or do something that can potentially harm himself anyway, I'd rather he just stick to his old content style of computer restoration TBH.
