I heat my home and the water for bath with wood. But you have to be careful to not block the way to chimney when you start the fire.
Also if you have a drawer for ash, let it open a little and when it is full empty it.
Very probable to start emitting CO if you are careless. In old novels there were scenarios with dead women intoxicated with fireplace smoke while sleeping.

You know, something like a bioethanol fireplace would probably be a really good option for an emergency backup for someone like David. I just thought of this last night. I used to have a counter top one in a basement apartment I lived in years ago and it would keep it comfortable when the power went in winter. He could get a really nice wall mounted one, buy enough jugs of fuel to last for 24-hours and have a real nice heat backup.

New CRD - very quaint piece of tech here. I vaguely remember the HTPC craze but never really got into it. By the time I was old enough and well-off enough to care about building an entertainment center type thing, it was the mid-2010s and the obvious answer was to just stick a Synology NAS in your closet and stream torrented media to a salvaged optiplex living under your TV.

I do like his stories about working in low-volume manufacturing in the US.

I feel like Action Retro has recently become quite stale and now in my opinion may be just trying to grift whenever possible. I mentioned this earlier in the twitch thread but there currently seems to be a resurgence in betterhelp sponsorers and Sean seems to have doubled down in this regard. In his first video sponsoring them it seems to be his worlds worst steamdeck video where he takes an industrial allen bradley computer and basically uses it as a case for a modern motherboard. Rather than try to hack together the onboard buttons or convert the video signal to one compatible with the computer he basically guts the whole computer and it becomes nothing more than a glorified case. In my opinion it seems like a heavily rushed video. Thats aside the point but its the first time he sponsors betterhelp:

However despite the criticism he seemingly ignores all of this and proceeds to sponsor them AGAIN on another video:

Though oddly enough this time it seems like all negative criticism about sponsoring betterhelp doesn't seem to exist. In addition to this it seems as if he's now trying to get himself sponsored by micro center. You can see this by him directly namedropping them more than once in his two most recent videos.

I agree. Hotrodding old machines and showing tech off is alright, but it feels like he stops short of actually doing anything with them.

Or something like that. He has done actually useful things for the vintage computer community, like FrogFind, so I don’t know why it feels like he never goes far enough with his projects. Or does anything really *that* neat with them.

Betterhelp is a bunch of kikes but as long as people believe in therapy people are going to want the kind of service they say they provide.

He's been a one-trick pony for a while, with most videos consisting of getting an old Mac -> putting an accelerator card -> trying to run Minecraft/Wolf3D. Not much different from LGR getting a random Sound Blaster clone and playing passport.mid on it. I still watch him because Mac stuff is pretty rare here, but he gets stale after a while.

Oh trust me frogfind is perhaps the best tool I've come in contact with. Not just for vintage pc compatibility but also for doing research for projects without worrying about website bloat. The accelerator cards have been quite fascinating in my opinion but theres installing odd addons to old hardware and then there is shoving a bunch of random components into an industrial chasis and not even bothering to convert the ps/2 / serial input with a arduino/pi zero
