Anime/Manga - Discuss Japanese cartoons and comics here; NO CULTURE WAR DOOMPOSTING!

My gf has browbeaten me into watching Attack on Titan with her and holy shit is it the most boring, predictable shit I've ever seen. The pacing is fucking awful, entire stretches of 3-5 episodes of talking and nothing happening. Every episode somebody starts crying. Everyone says "the fights are so well done!!" but they're mostly just a close-up of the character doing flips and shit while a PS2 CG background spins behind them.

There has been some enjoyment but it's been few and far between. We're almost done with season 1 and I'm salivating for it to be over.
I never got into it, it's grief porn.

You might want to have a sit down with your girlfriend and tell her that you'll still love her if she's a sadist, but that you won't be having that in the bedroom.

I really can't imagine caring enough about any of these characters to feel sad about them getting smacked out of the air like a fly when the scary new enemy shows up. None of them have much personality beyond the most generic anime tropes. One girl's personality went from "eating js funny haha" to "coward", which seems to be a trend with several of the lesser characters.

The show treats death like it's nothing and only the main character seems to notice that people die by the truckload in every episode, with other characters getting specifically upset when their friend that has only existed onscreen for ten seconds dies in a supposedly gory offscreen kill. One figure they spouted really bugged me: they mention at one point that 60 fucking percent of their army had died in the last four years. That's such a colossal number that it loses any value it might have had. I'm supposed to believe that the plucky main characters are going to magically turn this FUBAR situation around just because they believe REALLY hard in each other. Meanwhile a "plan" in the last episode we watched involved literally throwing away the lives of like ten no-name soldiers. Are you starved for troops or are they expendable? Make up your mind. These losses were, of course, immediately forgotten about.

Something that also annoys me. I thought the show was going to be gory but it always cuts away anytime anything good happens.

What really annoys the fuck out of me is the inaction though. People are constantly just standing around bitching about how awful things are, watching their friends get eaten or whatever and bemoaning how awful it all is. Almost like they've not been trained in how exactly to kill the giant retards stomping around. It's like a zombie film, where the only real danger is the stupidity of the cast.

At least with the introduction of a real monster that actually seems dangerous in the woman titan, there's some interest, but it's hard to maintain when they cut away to an episode-long conversation or flashback in the middle of the action.

I will have that talk with her though, I don't want my balls getting stepped on.

Plus-Sized Elf will be getting an anime adaptation this year.

Japan must be really trying hard to make elves a thing, with the sheer amount of elf-related anime titles coming out lately.
Where have you been since like last 5 years? Just in case, this isn't waifu list, so don't have any wrong idea.
ReZero (2016), Emilia (half-elf)
Goblin Slayer (2018 ), Elf.
How not to summon a demon lord (2018 ), Shera L.Greenwood.
Mushouku Tensei (2021), Sylphiette, more prominent in season 2 I think?
Faraway Paladin (2021), Meneldor, a guy.
Immoral Guild (2022), Rune, a guy.
Isekai Ojisan (2022-2023), Elf Sui.
Eminence in Shadow (2022-2023), Shadow Garden girls.
Handyman Saitou (2023), Franlil Lil Alil, more of a side character.
Edomae Elf (2023).
Farming Life in another world (2023).
Danmachi S4 (2023), Ryuu Lion being more prominent.

I'm sure there are more examples with whatever isekai, reincarnation slop and traditional fantasy anime over last few years.
More like too many knife-eared leaf lovers propaganda to me.

congratulations
you now know how it was like being me when this shit first started airing and everyone couldn't stop sucking its dick
sucks, doesn't it?

Since people were talking goofy anime dubs recently, this post reminded me to recommend the Golgo 13 anime from 2008, specifically the dub. It's a Sentai dub that came out not long after ADV went under, and it channels a lot of the same energy. Some of the accents they pull are absolutely hysterical, which is only improved by how seriously the show takes itself with its absurdly implausible scenarios. It's an excellent watch, and with 50 episodes, you've got plenty of fun in store.
I know the show has a bad rep around here thanks to trannies, but is lain any good the opening sounds excellent so i thought of watching the entire show.
Lain is excellent from what I recall, but it's been years since I've seen it. Don't let trannies ruin it for you, they don't even know anything about the show beyond "cute girl into tech she's me fr fr."

Haha, oh man, get ready for a roller coaster of what-the-fuck. Personally, among myself and my friend group, season 1 was okay, season 2 was pretty boring, season 3 got interesting again, and then season 4 went off the rails in a so-bad-it's-hilarious way. It's definitely an overrated series that the author had no idea what to do with, but if you don't take it seriously, it has its moments of entertainment.

Omg akiba maid war bluray yasss

I can't get into berserk at all. I tried. I'm sorry....
Berserk is basically like attack on titan.
The entire point of the show is to shock the viewer with scenes of senseless violence. It seems to short circuit something in dumber individuals who can't grasp the nature of senseless violence, so they're locked in a mental loop of attempting to process senseless violence over and over again because there's just something they can't grasp. For most people violence and murder is not something they ever experience in their life, and so it's a concept that physically does not exist in their mind except as an vague concept that they forget when they get distracted by the next scene of the show.

Other people can actually grasp the concept of senseless violence, so after the first couple examples it just gets repetitive and boring.

WE NEED MORE DWARF PROPAGANDA IN ANIME
currently the only ones that come to mind in the last couple of years are both airing right now (Dungeon Meshi and Frieren)

It's so-so and rather forgettable. I had to force myself to finish it. The only good thing to come out of Lain is this.

Technically Kyubey is a trannie
Only by current-day standards when every occasional crossdressers is considered a tranny.

Almost bangs a hooker until he realizes how far down he's gone.
No biggie for him, since he used to be Gauron's fucktoy.

now i have to make time to watch the OVA and movies.
The OVAs and films are pure comedy. Have fun.

Blassreiter
Guyver
Epic troll, my mate. One is not like the other. I refuse to believe there is one person out there who thinks Blassreiter was anything but shit. To even place it in the same sentence with Guyver is in bad taste and you should feel ashamed.

Also Sora no Woto is a better anime about music then K-On and everyone who thinks otherwise can doot himself.

Don't flaunt your pee fetish on the Farms.

what counts as sex for gauron?
the twin chinese girls that were guys in the lightnovel or whatever make it extremely confusing
and him choking that one chick
man's a freak
Gauron is just a pure psycho. That man doesn't have sex, he just kills people. I'm convinced of that

Speaking of Elves getting back into the spotlight, Plus-Sized Elf is getting an anime! Despite the localization choice for the title, chubby (elf) lovers will be eating good this year.

I have a thing for biomechanical stuff and high octane racing. I enjoyed Blassreiter. It's a creative show and fun watch especially compared to the many trash isekais we see today.

i was a fan of the manga (i like my girls a little big ok) but the concept gets stale rather quick. Dark elf for best girl.

tbh I take that over an ensemble cast that's never in real danger because of plot armor, until the writer needs a twist somewhere down the line and it happens just for shock value.
