SCP Foundation - Creepypasta with roid rage - now ITT: SCP fans

There's a lot of things from Homestuck that could actually make interesting SCPs with some tweaking. Like Lord English, a time traveling alien that's born at the end of the universe, then time travels backwards to ensure his own creation. Lotta stuff to work with something odd like that if they really wanted to pay homage to the webcomic.
He also somehow posts to the "present" internet solely through a deviantart page and a webcomic site that shows bastardized versions of various people he doesn't like being murdered before he gets buff via weird freaky time pocket dimension shit. That'd be a more interesting "homestuck related blog" thing than " alien satellite with troon pronouns and a homestuck fan blog on tumblr". The shit where him and his sister swap spaces in existing on the physical plane till one of them fucking up and dies is another aspect of him that's kinda scp-ish. Kinda funny that the scp uses his sister as their tumblr pfp when those goofy fucking skull head siblings are 100% more interesting of a weird anomalous alien thing kinda concept.

I remember getting lectured (the smug internet post kind not the actual lesson kind) a few years ago during early lockdown era by someone who was into nu-scp shit when I brought up the immersion breaking shit in the newer stuff. They basically kept doing fart huffing inconsistent gaslighty type shit like "ohhh well see there's no such thing as canon canon is overrated anyways. What even IS canon? It's better now this way/always been this way and you're too nostalgia blinded to see!". I later found out somehow that person had actual connections to some California media companies despite constantly waxing poetic about "marxism". Nobody notable in media obviously, just one of the many countless insufferable middle manager types in every fucking industry now. Still, it was funny in a cosmic sort of way.
That's funny to hear, but not really that surprising.

Some elitist midwit trying to make it in the entertainment industry with no respect whatsoever for the actual format.

Every one of these people think they're bigger and better than the SCP, they're totally out of touch and thus don't understand what made the original iteration popular or why nobody cares about the modern version, and are also so far up their own ass that they think if you disagree you must be the one who's wrong (even in the face of all evidence). The only thing they care about is using the name as a springboard.

What a prototypical representation of who's attached themselves to current SCP.

I wish a site like Kiwi Farms could make their own SCP like 4chan originally did; imagine the meltdown if average people not only abandoned the new, "superior" scp, but did it to a website that lets people call each other faggots.

The RCP wiki is much better, if you want a more quality version of the Foundation - it was built with it's Lore in mind so didn't just get built on weirdly and they have a more coherent timeline of events and creation of the organisation.

The sucky thing is there are the occasional later SCP's and Tales that are genuinely good they are just burred under mountains of shite, and as much as I hate to say it I wish there was an effort to unuwu and a fork of the SCP foundation curated by people who legitimately care about the concept, the problem is you will never get enough people together to agree on what's worthwhile keeping an whats worth tossing to make a real go of it.

I mean even some of the older SCP's like 096 - The Shy Guy, 106 The old Man and 049 The Plague Doctor, are so over done an over used they have lost all meaning and interesting aspects they can an should be left alone. I mean even the concept of Amnestics is over used I can see them being a thing but there liberal wide scale use would not be something they should just be able to use as a magic reset button, D Class I'm sorry but the numbers are just absurd and how the recruit them is a good idea (death row inmates) but they should only be used sparingly in some regions anyway.

I mean I like the idea of a Foundation Like organisation as in the SCP universe but one dating back hundreds if not thousands of years, My idea for one is that was essentially started by a Roman Emperor saying Keep this weird thing under lock an key we tried killing it but can't and it's to dangerous to let loose to a trusted group of Soldiers and some Learned Men, and then 50 years later something else being found and the jailers of the horrific item being called into give there opinion on the new weirdness and it growing from there, waxing an waning over the centuries growing an merging with other organisations as the need arises and changing identity at least as a front to remain below the radar, but with a wealth of knowledge of Science, The Occult and Ritual to keep most things they find somewhat secured or even destroy them should the need arise.

I mean hell think about the possibilities -

Say it was founded by a Roman Emperor, they used a Roman Legion as the original organisational structure as a result, they recruited from other Roman Legions at first and then later as time marched on it became a Family thing i.e. you where a Legionary, so your Son is a Legionary etc and the name gets passed down and some Contubernium become legendary and families have long histories with them and certain types of Anomaly, and the tradition is First Son's are Soldiers, Second Sons are Scholars, Daughters an other Sons are Support Staff etc, and outside recruitment is a thing but not something that's standard it has to be an exceptional Soldier or Scientists who gains attention to even be considered, outside of them absorbing other groups.

Once again I am asking for an end to this world.

Fuck me, it's not even a ls creative as "homestuck is a memetic hazard". It's just troonsprak, but with science!!!!11
Man have you slept through a shitstorm.
This article was the cause of the entire LGBSCP drama starring Metokur, djkaktus and the wiki & reddit tranny jannies back in 2017 or whenever the fuck that was. The author of the article is a notorious thin skinned little bitch who cannot take any criticism whatsoever, replies condescendingly to everyone downvoting his shitty article with accusations of muh transphobia and reports them to the mods. They actually locked down the ratings so he would stop getting downvoted. The cringiest slop on the entire website and you're literally not allowed to dislike it.

I knew about all of the drama, from a distance, but I guess I missed that this article was the cause of it. It's such a lame instigator for so much angst.

iirc the author is Kate Mitchell, who would go on to fuck up Homestuck itself.

An actual "homestuck scp" would have potential given the entire premise of homestuck involves a video game that when played on a computer has the ability to warp physical space and initiates the start point in a timeloop where the world is blown up. The "endpoint"in the game's creation loop is that the game's info gets sent back to before the supposed creation of the game in the form of an ancient looking frog temple. That kind of thing is an anomalous object that would probably definitely need to be contained, if it even could be. Best "explanation" for it being contained would be someone left a note in the stuff that got sent back to the past to make sure it never gets played by anyone which would result in a splintered outcome where nobody dies and the planet is still inhabitable.
Isn't that just SCP-140? I guess it's a bit different cause it's a game, but still.

Y'know what, since I even joined the Farms because of my own spat with the SCP I might as well tell you my ideas since I'm putting some in motion.

The British Empire is left as the biggest hoarder of paranormal items, entities and locations at the height of its influence and every global conflict before WW1 (Thirty Years' War, Nine Years' War, Wars of Spanish and Austrian Succession, Seven Years' War, American Independence, French Revolution and Napoleonic Wars) has been fought in part over control of them. The predecessor of this paranormal organization, which doesn't have a name for secrecy reasons beyond the number in the white paper that was signed to establish it, was the highest druid council in all of Europe which managed to keep the Romans out of the isles and holds influence over British politics over strong arming and being the only ones able to do break the laws of physics for things like time travel (basically a wizard did it) against the rising scientists and industrialists. This druid council is passing the torch because there are tasks beneath them like actively going against what's actually best for the crown. The council has meddled with history to create the 'best of all possible worlds' and its consequence is the War to End All Wars actually being the last conflict of such scale after its used to amplify the presence of dangerous anomalies by this world's equivalent of the Central Powers, that see the Brits and their allies as heretics forcing their ways on the rest of the World while stripping them off their wonders. The War ends in the Christmas Truce after surviving the anomalous event that makes paranormal organizations necessary with a 'kinder' ending for the losers to prevent the pain to come in the young century.
Dozens of intelligence and counterintelligence agencies working within the British Commonwealth, on the clock, dedicated to keep the public calm and safekeeping the extraordinary, made possible by taxpayers like you. Any resemblance to real life people, places and events should be reported in your local telephone box.

imo something like that only works on a smaller scale, not global-spanning semi-government entity. think belmont-clan vs dracula in castlevania compared to delta green.
it might have started there and grew, but not the same people or family (mainly because it would imply being inbred even harder than the average britbong).

using legionnaires as origin (even as villains) can be quite nice, it was the best part of the egypt lore in the secret world. I think clive barker's jericho does it too.

The problem with the SCP Foundation is that you can have a secret independent organization that all the nations of the world agree to have ultimate power to deal with all this crazy shit

But the SCP Foundation is so incompetent that they would never keep agreeing to it

How many D-class personnel, Agents, scientists, techies, MTFs, etc. routinely get slaughtered or corrupted by Chaos or whatever

How good is the SCP Foundation at its job really

Does the SCP Foundation really need ultimate power regarding their ability to deal with every single thing on that list

Half the entries detailing things that could destroy mankind or the entire planet or the universe or whatever seem to end with "Oh well it was only playing with us now we made it MAD!" Very spoopy indeed but that's not the track record you want your we can do anything we want organization to have

imo that's mainly due to SCP's writing getting extremely shit, it's the same MOAR POWER AND BIGGER crap hack writers often do (*cough* star killer base in TFA). originally the foundation was more of a background entity with enough ambivalence to keep your suspension of disbelief intact (somewhat) with much more grounded/curious SCPs, then slowly every SCP had to be BIGGER and WORSE and WORLDENDING; combined with the average fanfiction-tier need to "explain everything", even if it made everything worse and more illogical, in part fed by bad writers trying to create their own scp cinematic universe.

it's one of the reasons I don't really like scp-3333 (tower) for example, even tho lot of people consider it a "better" one. I had a whole wall of text prepared a while back but couldn't be arsed to post it yet, but for example it doesn't make sense for the foundation to constantly feed it scientists, MTFs or even d-class (even if the idea was to base it on some failed ww2 operation where it happened, but that was during a war).
the foundation, as big as it is, is still limited by basic bitch supply and demand, it's simply not feasible to waste personnel on some SCP that's not even a threat. remember it's "secure, contain, protect", and while there's certainly a need for research and to figure out what "makes it tick" (although that more often than not leads the overexplaining I mentioned above), it still needs to make sense.
take scp-087 (the stairwell) 3333 is based upon. what does the foundation do? use a few d-class, then they figure out all they have to do is lock the door and throw away the key, that's it. part of the reason it also works that well because it's not explained (much less than 3333 for example). simple, to the point, memorable.

meanwhile you have 3333 that doesn't even have a scientific approach (what happens when you open all the trapdoors, what do you see? what happens on the lower floors? who were the people you could apparently see? where do they come from?) nor even logic, because overly explaining "the monster" it inevitably leads to "so wait how the fuck does that even work? what do they eat unless someone is dumb enough to climb up? where do they come from? how did they evolve?!" asf.
and the most annoying part (getting back to shit writing) you can't fucking tell me the foundation, with the experience it has, would just a) feed it more personell b) wouldn't vet said returned personell at all. ffs people got put in quaratine for the fucking wu-flu, 3332 other SCPs and apparently the foundation never ever considered the possiblity of skinwalkers or any other ill effects.

like I said, whole wall of text, but those are the main points.

TLDR: it's shit writing.

every so often I return to the scp to see if it doesn’t suck. to be very honesty with you i love the idea of the site and desperately want it to be good again. it just isn’t. for those who don’t know the scp001 slot is supposed to be reserved for very compelling anomalies that are the authors highest work or achievement or whatever. as a casual reader, i should be able to go there and see the best of the latest writers doing their thing on the highest stage. it should be like tuning into the NBA playoffs after ignoring the regular season to see really good basketball players play really good basketball.

instead, we have these most recent installations:

  • CODE NAME: Cimmerian - this is a poor man’s version of the movie Event Horizon, even down to the missing eyes, and does a lot to just retread old cliches about an AI singularity out of control despite programmer’s best intentions. somehow it doesn’t even effectively touch on renewed anxieties about this in the AI age. asks you to click through a choose-your-own-adventure Twine, also unoriginal by this point for a 001, and thinks it’s being a benevolent hardass by forcing you to start over if you get a bit of trivia wrong. complete dilution of the scp001 slot, what is it doing here. thankfully this is not considered great writing by the scp faithful; a fleck of hope.
  • CODE NAME: Nico's Proposal - a tale that has 2D characters talking big smokey backroom stuff while sipping whisky and calling each other by their last names & exchanging quips and scoffs. I’m not kidding. the lead character is supposed to be profound by not continuing the traditions of the foundation and instead letting it die; I am both bored and thrilled by this idea. the scp’s only sticking point is a fading foundation logo gimmick both in the writing and in the logos behind it that feels like it belongs in a scene from The Never Ending story. all of this is predicated on a fumble of an administrator change, seems like something that wouldn’t be so easily messed up but there you go, a “SCP”. in the 001 slot. unfortunately this is considered profound by the scp faithful. the last line is spaced out from the rest and right-aligned for an extra helping of profundity.
  • CODE NAME: Dafydd Utica Foolfellow's Proposal - this is a like 10-in-1 scp and I didn’t have the interest or stamina to get past the first two. feels like my brain has been shaken violently in an attempt to have me like the article. scanning through the rest of the pages feels a lot like the first. The opener seems pretty butthurt at the existence of AI art, so as a way to fight it or just further establish mandatory political stances for the rest of the community, this 001 was made. it shames anyone who likes ai art by straw-manning position into complete idiocy - always a sign of an intellectual upper-hand for sure. pretty funny at times anyway, but also kinda rapey and way too cutesy all around with cheese-laden laugh-track lines from foundation researcher logs like “don’t tell anyone but I kinda liked Starlight Express”. That’s really the long and short of this article; it’s a mound of cocaine. Fun but regrettable to the point of wanting to get off the ride immediately.
  • CODE NAME: Null Sum - I… can’t even begin to make out what this is trying to say. emblematic of the technobabble tendencies of new stuff on the site that tries to be “high-concept” by being vague. they all have the same CSS theme. lots of “easter egg” details with too little pull to care about them. a real slog to try and read, from the edgy object classes onward. people who don’t like it will be tagged as just not smart enough to really get it.
  • CODE NAME: Plague's Proposal - the anomaly is when the foundation fails at containing things at an unacceptably high rate of 5%, which is both presumptuous and uninteresting. this one was also painful to read mainly due to lots of all-caps dialogue with heavy bathos. people seem to like this one, which tells me the site is still stuck in a rut spinning its wheels, likely never to get out.

I tapped out there. scp’s best now is comedic writing and even that is remarkably amateur. every new 001 is uninspired & painful. they list them in order of new entry or random, so you know they are trying their hardest to spread the reads more evenly but this isn’t fooling anyone. there is a very large, simple, and unavoidable reason why the new material out of scp is perpetually and increasingly bad, and it’s a reason that can’t be covered over by appeals to modernity or upgraded matters of taste; the project has no possible end, so it just keeps getting shittier and shittier with time. this is the best they have to offer now. i’m afraid to read SCP-8000. will probably do that but while peeking through my fingers. i used to do that same thing but out of fear and interest. the shit’s depressingly bad these days my god.

While watching a friend play through CONTROL again recently, I was just thinking about how it did the concept SCP is built on a lot better than the current actual SCP. the FBC has some kinda somewhat goofy/quirky employees like Dr. Darling and Ahti the janitor, but they still very clearly do their job in a professional manner. The FBC is very clearly somewhat inspired by shit like earlier SCP where the cosmic horror threat level shit they can't handle is merely observed/monitored and isn't a power scaling contest, just shit that's nor really containable in a normal sense. How the fuck do you contain a parasitic entity made of sound, spores, or the literal concept of darkness? especially ones that managed to slip through when they were going trough routine tests of a different anomalous object that just turns projector slides into portals to other realities? One that fucking was introduced via infecting your staff for months with nobody being able to notice till it was too late and your employees are basically turned into living dead puppets of this stuff? Indefinite lockdown, obviously.

Everything you run into in CONTROL shows that the HQ office of this 3 letter organization used to be a huge, highly staffed government operation that literally just had one fuckup that led to it being a barren ass endless tunnel of office space. You run into so many little notes the workers left each other, weird mail they had to get from the post office from US citizens that knew about them manually due to them not having an actual mailing address, shitty Edutainment programs made to inform the kids of staff visiting what not to do. Lots of small signifiers of "life" that aren't over the top and make the place feel "lived in". SCP's attempts at doing something like this the last few years has just been shit like the fucking pride month flag filter and character bios that put sex/gender identity over their actual fucking job or the "stories" shit which uh... yeah...

for those who don’t know the scp001 slot is supposed to be reserved for very compelling anomalies that are the authors highest work or achievement or whatever.
I always consider the book that discovers more to be the canon one but I didn't realize they were supposed to be the opus magnum of the author.
