General Discussion for Virtual Youtubers / Vtubers / Chuubas - it's okay to be a simp for 2D, just don't thirstpost.

E: apparently there's also a mass unsubbing of the other NIJIEN talents
The branch is basically toast. There's too many other groups and agencies catering to the anglophone world now. NijiEN's original value proposition was, "We're like HoloEN but less stuffy and uptight." Then once smaller groups started popping up, their pitch became, "We're like your favorite wacky indie but we have actual budgets and professional connections."

But Hololive has loosened up somewhat, and the smaller groups have gotten a lot bigger and better connected - there's really no market for NijiEN except the one they've already got and are in the process of destroying.

Yeah, they no longer have a hold in any kind of demographics and market. Hell, I don't think they're dominating the BFE market anymore ever since the chinese left for some reason

Tear the flesh, salt the wound.

Get going, Dokibird. VSpo, Hololive, indie, hell, even VShojo - anywhere is better than where you were.

Fuck Niji. I wonder if this is why Kyo's out. I wonder also if Pomu graduating caused management to be extra hard on Dokibird somehow.

Edit: also turns out it was a suicide attempt huh? Never would have expected it from her, it must have been awful behind closed doors.

And not Pomu is going offline for a few days. She has just started school in a foreign country, so it could easily be to do with that, but the timing...
I think most people underestimate the power and pull that Nijisanji has over the industry. Niji went scorched earth and no JP company will hire her. Look at any esports event, Selen's forte, and there are Niji's: the K4sen, SF6 tournament's, Neo-Porte Aka. Shibuya Hal's customs or big events, VSPO events, etc. None of the companies you are thinking of will hire her. No, not Hololive. Even Dtto's company wouldn't touch her. Maybe PC or Vshojo but I can't see any of the others. Not even Idol after they partnered with Brave group. It's on the level of Coco getting kicked out of an event after she graduated, Chinese companies wanted her gone.

Come watch the Queen
Mikeneko going live

never thought I will actually get a playbutton
Love the subtle shade being thrown here.

She's starting to get excited now that it's hitting her that she doesn't have to deal with permissions autism anymore.

I can't help but feel like the only reason Mikeneko doesn't have her own thread is because she's Japanese and we can't understand half the shit she says.
There's also nothing really interesting about her as a person. She's just a garden-variety menhera. She's functionally just a very basic Japanese woman whose hobbies mostly boil down to sleeping and eating in between being shitty to her coworkers and romantic partners. This kind of woman is not that uncommon, especially in Japan. Anyone who's lived in Japan for any length of time probably knows like five Michael Cats.

Lilypichu, the artist of the song that set everything in motion, doubled down and confirmed again that she gave Nijisanji permission back in August 2022 (Tweet, Archive)

The Nijisanji statement said that they needed permission from 3rd parties. That sounds like that fellow livers didn't want to be in the MV. Or they lied and just wanted to delete Mysta and Nina from it.

I believe both that you are entirely incorrect, and also that Dokibird has no current interest in joining another company at all.

Brief social media rundown.

A few more Niji EN X posts.
Aster doesn't appear to care.

Nor does Maria.

Uki has some safe spacery because he's a fag and this is some fag behavior. Admirable, in my opinion, you suck that dick good, faggot.
selen-uki.png
Meloco also appears to have some, but I'm not familiar enough with her to get a read.

Enna, Finana, and Reimu are all out for now. I believe Reimu was already on a break before this all started, but was posting on X sporadically, so she's on a double break now.

Notably yet to post since the shitshow: Elira; Petra; Millie; Shu; and Fulgur. That's not the full list, but those are the ones I expect to have something to say.

Japanese fan sentiments in the longer threads on X are, I think, coming round to the idea that Niji have fucked up bad, and Selen isn't this marauding bitch as which she's been painted.

I did see an interesting point though - Niji paying for things is practically unheard of and they're surprised that we're surprised that Selen has had to pay for things. It does strike me as a little strange that several artists would come out after the fact and say "oh yeah, I ALSO got paid by Selen and my NDA is fucked up." I don't know what they would expect Niji to be paying for. I get the impression Niji only pays for new outfits and the official 3D model.

I smell a little clout chasing from the artists, but I'd be interested to hear you retards' opinions before solidifying my opinion. (Obviously Niji is a flaming pile of shit, that's not up for debate).

Nothing much else has changed. The subreddits are in much the same state they were yesterday, and about 1.5k people have left the livestream chat (to go to sleep I guess).

Or lolcow watchers.
I was gonna say, I follow mike popcorn at the ready.

Seriously a lot of VTubers should really think about ‘am I really ok with needing permissions first?’ more before signing with a company
Uhhh, money. Its a full time job for most of them. The issue lies in how creative they want to be and niji not being condusive to creativity. If they just want to collect a paycheck they can coast knowing the brand will pay out enough to allow them to live comfortably. However a lot of entertainers are creative types they want to create and come up with unique ideas, thinking outside the box is also how to grow in this industry.

If they don't have an outlet for their desire to create they're going to hate their job, if they just want an audience its a perfect fit.

She’s right. A company is not going to know they need to change if it’s just one person complaining.

I expect her to end up at Holo at some point honestly
I think she has the connections, goodwill and now scale alone to do anything she'd want to do. I imagine she'll stay indie and maybe get a manager to help her out.

and maybe get a manager to help her out.
That’s the least she should do. And honestly a lot of Talents should as soon as they can. Because it just decreases the level of bs they need to go through or are even aware of.

Most VTuber drama honestly goes away if you have a manager
