I don't know, sometimes in the creative field there is the effort to salvage something that can't be salvaged. Almost every idea has a slight modicum of potential, and an idea that failed as spectacularly as madhouse is interesting to piece back together.
Exactly. Poke-Madhouse has some honestly interesting ideas, but Lily is incapable of actually following through with them. This tends to stem from the fact that she knows what a cool idea looks like but doesn't understand
why it's a cool idea; she just steals the shallow impression of it and throws it in without any consideration past that.
For instance, what the blog brought up as a major premise is Lily's time as a League Enforcer looking into Pokemon abuse, something that should be a really important bit of Lily's backstory but is just used to justify why she's the biggest badass in the room, even though Lily also never gets into Pokemon battles to actually
show off this badassery.
There's a really disturbing bit of her backstory where one of her investigations was into a gay man and his (male) Gardevoir, who formed a mating bond and who were considered to be in an 'abusive relationship', which caused Lily to arrest him and permanently separate the two-- the Gardevoir went insane from the isolation and the trainer was interred in a facility so the effects of the bond on a human could be observed. This is, obviously, precisely what Lily and G have going on between them, but Lily never revisits this incident or thinks about its implications, it doesn't come up after G reveals she made the mating bond, it doesn't cause anybody to think about how utterly fucked up their society really is-- the actual fallout is that Nikolai got arrested, his house was seized, and Lily bought it and that's where she lives now.
People in this thread came up with way better stories to tell about the mating bond, and Bonnie, and Diantha, and Nikolai, and the League, and all the other fucked-up things Lily incidentally introduced to the world and then immediately stoped thinking about. There are real stories that could be told, if only the author was competent. There is inspiration to be had and if somebody wants to act on it, why sneer at them for actually doing something instead of just, say, sitting on a forum bitching about it?
And if it sucks, then you can make fun of it.
