Sony hate thread

I touched on this very briefly in the Xbox hate thread, but I believe that Microsoft and Sony have cornered themselves into two areas where they are "too big to fail" outside of total AAA death.

To try to keep it as concise as I can; Sony has become a hardware leader but seemingly can't produce games worth a shit and we are now seeing a year where it is forecast they won't have anything major coming out. Xbox, meanwhile, has positioned itself as a development leader, but can't seem to sell it's consoles worth a shit.

We're reaching a point where they may need each other simply to survive.
It's clear as day that, ever since over an entire decade, Sony and Microsoft's days of video gaming have died and are taking last ditch efforts to keep their consoles on life support

I wish they'd both die at this point. Either go back to their roots or exit the industry.

That Sony aren't releasing a first party exclusive until 2025 would be funny if it wasn't so insane. ND have THREE studios and haven't produced as much as a wet shit since TLoU2, which launched last gen.

Pathetic.

At least we still have Nintendo, Atari ( with the 2600+ ), Evercade and Polymega if you want to collect physical media.

They basically colluded with media companies to stop supporting physical copies of movies and television shows and push everyone to streaming platforms through their consoles as well. They want people on Gamepass where you rent your games and need to sit through advertisements every ten minutes in order to keep gaming. When nothing is available on physical media anymore then ownership becomes much easier to prevent.

If Microsoft could force people to rent their operating systems and internet browsers monthly they would. The all digital future is not just about rent seeking every aspect of your life though. It's also about placing advertisements in every second of your life. On your desktop background, in the start menu, in your browser startup screen. You double click a program to run and a 30 second commercial loads up first before the program launches.
Did they really? Or did they laugh streaming off as being nothing of value and then only switch to it after Netflix made billions of dollars off of their error? Because I can guarantee that those companies would love to sell 30 cent BDs to you for thirty dollars if only "you" were still willing to buy.

It's probably also worth mentioning how Nintendo's cartridges are all manufactured in-house, and there's nothing like the DVD Forum to pay off when they produce theirs. I don't know if it's universal, but I've heard about indie devs working with Limited Run saying that Nintendo charges a flat fee of $10 per cartridge across the board that the publishers have to foot. Those carts are just a small Flash chip, some contacts, and a little thin plastic shell with a sticker, and a coating of that chemical that tastes like poison.

Nintendo's never going to give that lucrative money maker up. Sony would be foolish to go all digital with PlayStation. Microsoft makes the most sense, considering Azure's the biggest part of their business, but console gaming's one of the last fronts for physical media. Like with books and records, many people don't want to give up the ability to own and keep what inspires them.

Jeez, that's more than I thought it had. I'll even go as far as to argue that Wii U's Switch ports didn't entirely gut the thing, what with games like Mario Maker and The Wonderful 101 just working better on it due to how they were designed around the gamepad.
That's true, and while I haven't played Star Fox Zero and I'm sure it's not good, I'd still rather play that than Spider-Man 2 and would definitely enjoy it more.

I see Rare Replay requested a lot for a Switch port. It makes sense, but it was halfway an emulation tech demo, anyway. It came out right as 360 backwards compatibility was added, so they'd have to either port or emulate a number of Xbox 360 games. Banjo-Kazooie, Banjo-Tooie, and Perfect Dark also used their (very nice) 360 versions. Then there's Grabbed by the Ghoulies, and I'd really like to know what the deal with that was. Is it emulation? From years before homebrew Xbox emulation was worthwhile? Did they seriously write an Xbox emulator just for Grabbed by the Ghoulies, of all things? Or is it just a port? It's the only original Xbox game on Rare Replay, and it was released a couple of years before any other Xbox games were playable on Xbox One. Of course, with all things Xbox One locked down as tight as a drum, I guess nobody but the developers know.
I always forget that Rare Replay is a more complicated situation. It's too bad because that's probably the only way Conker would be put on Switch, I don't see them adding it to the N64 NSO.

I'd bet 10bux that Sonyfornia censors the fuck out of Stellar Blade. They have to, if they don't one of their blue haired screech creatures will walk into the office with a ree-ree vest.
I hate how much sway these faggots have.

Meanwhile, PlayStation put some of their games on GOG, oddly enough, where those games are DRM-free.

Are they really? I remember GOG getting into some trouble a couple of years ago when people found out that not every game on their store was DRM-free.

Should be, I think that controversy had to do with online features/always-online games like the newer Hitman games, which aren't exactly DRM, but require an online proprietary server.

Didn't Phantom Liberty have a phone home DRM?
