The Germans, in general, didn't want to take Russia. Hitler, specifically, wanted to cleanse the land of Slavs and repopulate it with Germans, although he was planning to give the northern bit to the Finns, right after they were done killing the entire population of Leningrad and razed the city. Lebensraum, the belief that the Germans needed to conquer, cleanse, and inhabit more land to survive, was a very specific bit of weirdness peculiar to Hitler. The rest of Germany, especially the General Staff, would have been happy to just crush France and England and call it a day. As for raw materials, the USSR had been trading Germany oil, glass, and other goods right up until the day of the invasion.

Well kinda. They did want plenty from Russia, but nothing they needed to actually rule it directly do get. After Brest-Litovsk they could get most of what they wanted (Grain, iron ore, bauxite, oil, wood) just from trading with the new satelite states they made from Russia.
