Not Just Bikes / r/fuckcars / Urbanists / New Urbanism / Car-Free / Anti-Car - People and grifters who hate personal transport, freedom, cars, roads, suburbs, and are obsessed with city planning and urban design

Cool as those things are, I hold them partially to blame for how bloated the American University system is. All this shit costs money to maintain and upkeep, and every fucking school, even state schools, try to blow as much money as they possibly can of their annual budget on shit like this.

Universities need to be told to fuck off with this bullshit from the state and federal government if the government ever wants to resolve the student debt crisis, and this is coming from someone who despises government control and regulation. Of course, the government can also just end student loans so the free money to build all this shit vanishes.

Maybe I'm just a jealous pleb though because I don't even go to one of the universities my state is known for.
University football coaches are some of the highest-paid people in the entire system. I just checked, the latest guy they hired at my alma mater has a contract where he makes $7M a year. Said university is an enormous campus (in terms of contiguous land it owns, it's in the top 15 (about 5000 acres), basically rebuilt the football stadium (the last original parts were torn down about a decade ago and the rest, even the stuff built in the 1990s, has been extensively remodeled).

I have a lot to say about said university and how the machinations of ruination were set into motion years ago, but that's too powerlevel-y.

The cost of college sports is only going to get worse because they can now directly pay athletes. The rich universities are going to double their investment in their sports programs, at least. There's basically no regulations on student athlete compensation anymore so it's a complete free for all.

American Football Stadium for a University
Those are made because university football teams are a big deal in the States whereas in Europe (I'm basing this off the UK but I imagine it holds true for the continentals too) nobody cares about the university teams and follow their city teams instead, I imagine the difference is because higher education in the UK is still primarily a middle/upper class institution whereas the people who care most about football (including the players) tend to be working class.

Maybe it's just because I don't follow sportsball at all (Besides knowing the rules for baseball) but I never fucking got this industry around college ball. Shit's fucking retarded, just watch the NFL. I mean shit, some places even show fucking regional football teams on TV. Remember going to my grandparents one time and they were showing college ball on the fucking off season, and it was literal who universities.

God damnit, now this main-character-syndrome fag appears on based tech-channels.

American football has become deeply ingrained into the community, to the same level that association football has in Europe and South America. And a football fan in the US is often a fan of a local high school team, a college team and an NFL team.

The US Government even has regulations preventing the NFL playing on Fridays and Saturdays for most of the season to protect high school and college football.

The act withdrew antitrust immunity for any pro football telecast if a high school or college football game is being played within 75 miles (120 km) of the broadcasting station on Friday nights (after 6 p.m.) and Saturdays from the 2nd Friday in September until the 2nd Saturday in December.

Plus, the affinity that Americans have for their college (sometimes even ones they didn't attend) is pretty unique; I don't think there's really any other country where people love their colleges so much (even if it's just a mediocre non-flagship state university), and think of fellow attendees as family.

/r/fuckcars condemns vandalism:
-snip-
That's how it works with these people. They are allowed to commit crimes in the name of their movement, because they think they are ontologically correct. But when YOU do it, you're a simple-minded bigot who should go to jail. Granted, driving in your truck just to go vandalize a pride flag sidewalk is retarded but that's besides the point.

Vandalism if you can even call burning your tires on asphalt that. Asphalt which is funded via their taxes is different than deflating and slashing random civilians tires because you hate MmmmmBigTruck/SUV.

This suggests that the developers did not originally plan on having retail on the ground floor, which is odd because I thought that was the whole point of the complex?
This throws another wrench into the urbanist myth that you simply can convert dense residential units to commercial units and vice versa.

To be fair they still seem to function as stores. But it's still hilarious to see.

I thought the urbanist myth was the other way around. Turning commercial units (that were sitting empty due to WFH) into residential units.

Some of Culdesac's stores are literally repurposed apartments:

Yeah I think I remember the little retail at Culdesac, like a convenience store and a Mexican restaurant.

But this is an interesting development (in terms of "stuff that happened", not "the project") because it signifies a few things:
1. Despite the housing shortage, Culdesac has had difficulty renting out units.
2. Despite urbanists' claims, there is no "no parking means cheaper housing". None of those savings will go to the renter.
3. These are junk stores that have no longevity. They're the exact same things that dying malls will do/have done, rent cheap space to some starry-eyed "entrepreneur" (possibly with some sort of predatory paperwork) with zero business experience in a place that no one really wants to go to, complete with re-using whatever fixtures were left behind.

These things will be gone within six months.

I prefer not to wake up to a screaming baby next door, some rap music invading my serenity, or some abuela making menudo stinking up the apartments around her. I don't want not having a yard but instead having to deal with crackheads, criminal niggers, and the stench of piss at a local park.
To be fair, this isn't realistic in urban areas in the US. Is this a EU thing?

Well, watched that new Gumroad episode. I've decided that despite not committing crimes that incur the death penalty, most if not all of them deserve to be fed into a car compactor for sheer annoyance factor. I'm sure people would be happier to not have these human mosquitos around. I don't think I've listened to and read anything more annoying than these faggots.

Total Bike-brain Death

Edit: just remembered Sovereign Citizens and those 1st Amendment Auditors, but they're not that active/vocal these days and they were funny in a schizophrenic way.

Switzerland, famous for its affordability, is the top suggestion:

OP actually doubts this, is told that wages make up for the cost of living. He then implies that high wages are irrelevant to him because he can't hold down a full time job:
