University football coaches are some of the highest-paid people in the entire system. I just checked, the latest guy they hired at my alma mater has a contract where he makes $7M a year. Said university is an enormous campus (in terms of contiguous land it owns, it's in the top 15 (about 5000 acres), basically rebuilt the football stadium (the last original parts were torn down about a decade ago and the rest, even the stuff built in the 1990s, has been extensively remodeled).Cool as those things are, I hold them partially to blame for how bloated the American University system is. All this shit costs money to maintain and upkeep, and every fucking school, even state schools, try to blow as much money as they possibly can of their annual budget on shit like this.
Universities need to be told to fuck off with this bullshit from the state and federal government if the government ever wants to resolve the student debt crisis, and this is coming from someone who despises government control and regulation. Of course, the government can also just end student loans so the free money to build all this shit vanishes.
Maybe I'm just a jealous pleb though because I don't even go to one of the universities my state is known for.
I have a lot to say about said university and how the machinations of ruination were set into motion years ago, but that's too powerlevel-y.
