Sega - It's more than just Sonic Autism

2024:
Me: OK, you got your big Sonic, Yakuza and Persona games out of the way, and you cancelled that wokeshit shooter, NOW can we get a Skies of Arcadia remaster?!

SEGA: NO. Monkey.

Me:.....is it because I'm black?

Like clockwork. Pyoro, a reliable leaker, pretty much confirmed a Monkey Ball appearance at Nintendo's partner showcase tomorrow. Because all SEGA can do aside from a token nod towards their lesser franchises is draw from the same well over and over again. *sigh*

According to this leaker (who correctly leaked the Persona 3 Remake + The Answer DLC and P5Tactica, indicating some link to Atlus and Sega of Japan):
  • Crazy Taxi and Jet Set Radio are receiving remakes (of their original games) AND reboots (live service games)
  • the Crazy Taxi reboot is a live service GTA-Online style game with 100 players racing around the map
  • The Jet Set Radio reboot is a live service Fortnite style game with open world graffiti and shooting gameplay.
  • Both Jet Set Radio and Crazy Taxi are getting non-live service remakes that are full priced and have DLC planned.

I'm devastated hearing about the JSR live service game, in what world does Jet Set Radio need fucking SHOOTING gameplay? It made me going somewhat with the open-world graffiti stuff, since the first two games are essentially that, but with loading screens between areas due to graphical limitations.

I'm also bummed out to hear that the Jet Set Radio game is a remake of the original. Jet Set Radio Future is also a remake of the original Dreamcast game with new graphics and levels, it's sad how Jet Set Radio has never truly gotten a "Jet Set Radio 2" over the last 25 years. Hopefully they at least update the rollerblading controls and copy from JSRF or BRC and add the jet boost.

Crazy Taxi, however, could honestly work with multiplayer game design. The PSP port of the game had a multiplayer mode where you competed with another player to collect the most fare, and if you ran into them, you'd steal their passenger and their fare. That, multiplied by 100 could be a lot of fun. There also seems to be a Cops-and-Robbers mode where you chase down Taxi Drivers judging by the reveal trailer.

I wish we were back in the era where these "live service" games were just additional multiplayer modes to complement a full $50-$60 game with a campaign and offline multiplayer. Fortnite and Genshin succeeding drove the industry into an even worse pit than it was already in when patching unfinished games sold at full price became the norm.

Just when you think you can't possibly hate modern gaming more than you already do.
I changed my mind, I no longer want Ubisoft to go bankrupt first. I want SEGA to go bankrupt first.

I'm sure le current year Crazy Taxi will have shitty ass lefty political messages placed onto billboards about LGBTQ+, gun violence, BLM, Asian Hate, Ukraine/Palestine/Israel, etc.
Yeah probably, especially with the shitshow of the Spider-Man games. The fact is that product placement (even/especially context-appropriate) has fallen out of fashion isn't a good sign if Sega wants to chase current trends.

It's what happens when big corpos receive money from BlackRock, ESG or Vanguard
All it'd be missing is a digital Holocaust museum.
If the game ever comes out and somebody ends up modding it, there needs to be a billboard that says, "Hitler Did Nothing Wrong," "Jews Did 9/11" or "Despite Being Only 13% of the Population"

And, of course, "you will never be a woman".

From sounds of it Sega are doing remakes are kind of a fail safe so not a total lose if the GAAS games fail. I don't play GAAS games, personal too much of a time sink for me, but on paper I could see the ideas working, even if I'm not sure if there is a huge market for them.

I think Crazy Taxi could work well, but not sure why it's not a mode for a new game, rather than being it's own thing. Competing to get fares with other plays does sound fun and can't think of anything like it in the GAAS area.

JSR, I see could see MP mode work as well in, one team play as GGs while the other plays as the cops out to stop them, But again not sure why this would need to be it's own thing, rather than a new game that reuses maps for the MP mode, even if the MP mode is free to play. But they try to make it a shooter like Fortnight or even like Splatoon, not sure what the point is, just will be a generic GAAS game then.

Brightside is if the remakes do well but the GAAS shit doesn't, that will give Sega the message of what people want from them.

So the new Monkey Ball, Banana Rumble just got announced for June and -

OH MY SHIIIIIIIIIT
EWWWWWWWW.
EW.

SEGA really took a look at the reboot designs and said, "How can we make them look even worse?"
Can someone tell Sega that the Monkey Ball fanbase consists of autists that won't even look at your game unless the physics are 1:1 to the GameCube titles? Because I don't think they understand why people still care about those games.

Next thing is gonna be guardian heroes but with waifus like genshin impact haha..........wait, NO!
Treasure did say they're making a game sometime last year... I pray it's not something like this, Treasure is one of the very few game companies I genuinely still like (though not releasing a game since 2014 has saved them from getting into a lot of the current bullshit trends).

This amazes me.
How can you basically do nothing for a decade and still be in business?

Re-releasing Ikaruga every new console generation.

I'm only half joking. According to Wikipedia, they only have 10 employees these days, but even 10 feels like way too many to have on payroll when all you've put out for 10 years is re-releases. Really makes me wonder if they're doing some other stuff on the side that I simply would be unable to track down due to a language barrier.
