What are some dead games or niche games that have annoying communities?

Kotaro Uchikoshi, the "999" guy. His fandom thinks everything he writes is Art. None of this is true; 999 is a good game but then he started sniffing his own farts, as anyone who played the bloated sequel "Virtue's Last Reward" will tell you. Unfortunately his fandom is rabid and constantly reaffirms his decisions to have two hour long segues about termite mounds or the Mandela Effect killing a game's pace.

More recently, when Uchikoshi declared that an unseen character in Nirvana Initiative was "nonbinary", his fans all decided that they were somehow "validated" because they didn't fit 100% with the Barbie or Chad ends of the female-male spectrum.

At least they're not Danganronpa fans.

The Super Metroid community is pretty bad. There's a mod for it called Project Base that irons out a lot of the odd physics quirks it has and makes it control more like Zero Mission and it's intended for people who want to mod it into total conversions that play like ZM or Fusion, but holy shit they have the most autistic slapfights over a game being based off Base or vanilla and will completely ignore how good the game is over physics autism.

If you still play Team Fortress 2 you are either a Redditor, a tranny, or both. That's all.
This is my biggest bitch with modern gaming. It's the only game left with players and rocketjumping and the remaining playerbase will scream that you should be banned if you can land airshots consistently.

Disco Elysium.
Dunno which is worse, the wannabe communists or the people who think 'Mr. Everart is helping me find my gun' is the funniest thing ever.

I could go on a long winded rant about the Dark Souls/From Software fanbase. I'll keep it brief.

Before they hit it big with Dark Souls, From Software was an obscure company, best known for Armoured Core. They made a bunch of weird and esoteric games. The problem is after Dark Souls everything had to be Dark Souls or bust. I remember the fanbase having a meltdown when From Software announced they were making a VR murder mystery game. Even the announcement of Armoured Core 6 had some speculation that it would Dark Souls with hangers instead of bonfires.

Then there's the extreme hatred they have for other games like Lords of the Fallen and The Surge. The Surge 1 and 2 do more of what Dark Souls fans claim than Dark Souls. If a game does something like Dark Souls, it's a rip off. If it does it different from Dark Souls, it's inferiour.

But the easiest way to piss off a DS fan is to point out any of the beginners traps, exploits, balance problems, or any other flaw with the game. This leads to a bizarre situation where using certain builds or features will mean a playthrough "didn't count" according to the DS fanbase. Yet obvious exploits like using a weak bow to kill a dragon by shooting it's tail for 30 minutes is perfectly fine and the game "working as intended".
I like to tell the DS fan fags that the games aren't really that hard. It's just shitty cheap tricks the Japs have always used to make their games longer and harder. Specifically shitty hit detection. I like many Japanese games. But I know they kind of shit they pull. The same goes for Dark Souls. I noticed a lot of hit detection issues when I played. Typical Jap game.

The DS fags have autistic hissy fits when I do that. lol
What baffles me to no end is the amount of Gaijin dicksuckers that defend their precious company and especially War Thunder to no end. Everyone will gladly shit on WoT but WT is treated as their darling, despite the numerous shit WT has done that it has gone equally downhill as its' arcady counterpart.

-Inclusion of tanks in an aircraft-based game.
-Introduction of Cold War to modern tech in a game that is meant to cater to the reason above. Hence the Dagor engine being a tech-clusterfuck.
-The worst grind in a F2P game period. You need premium to even progress past rank 3, or hell, rank 2 if you want to try everything the game has to offer.
-Balance is based on statistics, therefore bullshit moves like putting an M26 Pershing in a tier with goddamn Tiger II Hs are justified with this stupid reasoning and making the tank unplayable until their BRs are moved. Multiple aircraft and tanks have been shafted because "decompression hurts queue times".
-Unnecessary gameplay additions for "muh realism". Does anyone use napalm bombs or that stupid tank bulldozer mechanic on their Challengers? I sure as shit don't.
-Literal premium tank/aircraft preorders. In some updates, they have some shit you can get by pre-ordering, despite the game being F2P. Here, there are pre-orders for virtual items and niggercattle will gobble it up.
-The worst one, and the one that shows that War Thunder players are niggercattle, is the amount of promises Gaijin has made to their players, which they only do after they massively fuck up their game. In the "La Royale" update, the backlash was so immense that Gaijin was one of the developers during 2023 that sent their usual "apology letter" pictured below:
1708099946534.png
After which, they decide to make a "roadmap" on their promises to fix the game, but 2 months afterwards and they have not fixed the economy of the game, so people are still at risk on losing their Silver Lions all because of repair costs. People revolted, Gaijin gave them a carrot, then they stopped and continued to play along. Hook. Line. Sinker.
I used to play World of Tanks a lot. I played from 2013-2016 pretty heavily. Then after that it was just every so often. When I built my own PC in 2016 and could play better games I stopped messing around with WoT as much.

My advice is don't waste your time on those shit free to play games.

Wurm Online

I am having a blast of a time living my hermit life on Pristine. Best to be a hermit as the social aspect of the game is full of paranoid autists.

-Real world trading drama in droves. RWT has since been banned. However prior too this many of the player led kingdoms made a career off this game. Can easily make hundreds of dollars selling your custom made kingdom banner to other players. To this day I still feel the top players of the game are laundering money. You'd understand if you saw how many third party applications and multiple player clients the 'best' use on a daily. At its core making money is not a big deal. It's the political game everyone plays. You see PvP on Wurm is dead. It needs change. PvP is a means to sell your kingdom symbol bearing flag. To change that is to change how these guys are making their money.

-Land ownership. If PvP is not your style [since the PvP islands only have about 5 players with 50 alt maxed accounts] you can go to PvE. Settle some land and make a claim so other people cannot chop down hour trees / rob your stuff as the land claiming feature disables the actions of others. However with claiming land comes upkeep you need to pay into. So no surprise people move tree and food farms off the deed land for space to build, which means they are unprotected and anyone can harvest your field.

Whether malicious intentionality or, blessed be them, a new player gracing this dead game, the offended party will go absolutely mental.

Imagine you cut down some unmarked pine trees. Then for months / years after someone comes by daily and turns all your land into sand, clear cuts everything, strip mines everything below you, places several deeds around your deed so you may never expand, continues to have the moderation team visit you, and private messages you nasty things on multiple alts made daily.

-Burn it all down mentality. Continuing from the last tally. Players losing their cool and clicking the delete box on everything they've spent YEARS building, whether alone or with a community. A kingdom of several years, several players, several thousands of dollars in gold, goes poof because the king lost a PvP match.

-Extreme political divides. Mostly under the surface but once you get someone started the pure distilled political autism comes out. Didn't expect a discussion on animal breeding to spawn a tirade on the evils of the far right / left.

-Autism. The main, legitimate problem. The community has to be over 50% autistic. This in turn causes issues in socializing with others. It also causes a fear of CHANGE. Saw that word in my first tally didn't you? Wurm is a 20 year old game. It hasn't changed much but it needs to.

However many a time in the suggestions or critique threads on the forum you can find arguements that boil down to "It's different. Now I have to play a different way. I dont like the change." Maybe add on "I'm a paying customer."

News flash we're all paying to play.

Long mess of words. Rambling on the phone. Hope someone found some enjoyment in these paragraphs. Tons I could type about.

but then he started sniffing his own farts, as anyone who played the bloated sequel "Virtue's Last Reward" will tell you.
VLR is fantastic or at least it would be if ZTD stuck the landing of course that brings up the question is VLR worse because its cliff-hanger never got addressed? The 3d models are a bit off putting though, they make the atmosphere much weaker compared to 999's hand drawn style which is fairly unique. Its definite anime but the characters and environments are incredibly well detailed.

ZTD was so depressing I haven't touched AI, don't know if I ever will.

I fucking love Megaman as much as the next autist but my god is everything beyond classic(I don't know anything about battle network or starforce so i can't comment) such a mess it makes sense for the fanbase to be 50 different kinds of fucked up too
I don't want another X game, I don't want a reboot, just leave that entire clusterfuck behind
Zero ended fine but even they wanted to end it after the third game
ZX I don't even remember much of
legends I do want a third game but that's just because I want them to wrap up the story once and for all

Plenty of fangames and romhacks exist and are just as if not even somewhat better than the official games(Megaman X8 Demake, megaman unlimited) so I don't think there needs to be any other games except ones to wrap up loose ends

I also never really interacted with the community so I can't speak much but the glimpses i've seen they very much suffer from banjo syndrome of refusing to move on but I'll give them some tiny credit at least megaman fans make their own shit instead of begging other people to do it like banjofags do
also reploidrevo has always come across to me as a tremendous faggot

I'm a bit biased towards Mega Man X because it was one of the first games I owned as a kid for my SNES, but I believe it still receives universal praise, if for nothing else than the soundtrack.

The Battle Network series are actually pretty good overall. The first three are all kind of the same and scuffed in their own ways (1 was too easily to get lost in trying to move around the map, 2 had too much "fetch quest" busywork and tedious shit, 3 is overall better but it's still the same game mechanically) but the latter half actually expand on the mechanics. Starforce is just vertical battle network with a few new gimmicks and story.

I say all this to say, the Battle Network community probably has the be the most autistic of the bunch. The games still has a small "competitive" community that mostly through third party methods, especially Battle Network 6. Since the gameplay is a card battler on an 18 square grid, people make folders (decks, basically) that are either designed to be highly optimized to a playstyle or just straight up bullshit. There's not much drama in the scene so it isn't as interesting to follow if you're not a Battle Network fan.

My award for most autistic community has to be Brawlhalla. Brawlhalla is a free-to-play platform brawler akin to Super Smash Bros. I have seen people in social media groups smash controllers, TVs, make death threats, actually fucking cry, the list goes on. I know fighting games in general bring about chimpout behavior, but to witness it over a relatively simple game being played at autistic levels by raging manchildren will always be a sight to behold.

Dark Souls and its fans.

The games themselves aren't dead to anyone but me, but my hatred of these shitty games lives rent free in my head and so I'm going to whine about it where ever I can.
I get you.

The more time passes, the more I see them as clunky, poorly designed RPGs with shitty mechanics from a one-trick-pony japanese dev.

Star wars galaxies:

Everyone in those communities are too busy perpetually bitching about how bad the NGE and CU upgrades are instead of shutting up and adding all the expansion content to a single server but with the gameplay of vanilla swg they claim to like so much. I have never gotten the chance to go fight HK 47’s droid army on mustafar because of these faggots refusal to add expansion content like the trials of obi wan.

Vanilla SWG gameplay sucks for solo players so at least let us play the fucking story. Which they wont as the just populate these massive empty worlds with afk bot accounts in every cantina.

Most of the time the server staff are horrible and you will be permabanned for simply asking how to do anything like for example, becoming a rebel pilot as a brand new player who hasn’t played the game before in text chat while everyone spergs about how great the sandbox and nonexistent player economy is on all of these servers on youtube and elsewhere.

Depsite the discordniggers also bitching about how no one wants to talk when they fucking banned everyone as its just low quality bait to lure out new users to ban. While the streamers shill this shit like its the second coming of christ and its incredibly disingenuous. Still have no idea what they mean about NGE and Combat upgrades besides a few professions no one uses even on the emulated servers being consolidated.

And you cannot escape every fucking youtuber talking about them. I'm here listening to an EFAP while I work this morning and mother fuckers are going on about Dark Souls.

Like I'm here to listen to PatricianTV talk about some retard who got mad he criticized Starfield.

My brother in Christ, blessed truly is @Gender: Xenomorph for quoting me at this time on this day.

Its a post CU/NGE Emulated server with an average population of around 1000-1500 on any given day, its also got the game's source code as it was on time of close and they have recently added the planet Bespin and are working on Felucia as we speak.

The community has been lovely when I've had to deal with them. Go and kill your HK-47 army.

It's pretty funny if you dare try to tell them that there's enough Mega Man already or to seek out alternatives. No, it must have Mega Man in the title or else! Never mind Corrupted has been in development by that Brazilian autist for over ten years now, please be patient!

I was alive during Mega Man's heyday. Capcom was pumping out a new one every year, and once the handhelds took off there would occasionally be two a year from different spinoff series. There's more than enough to keep Mega Man autists busy. The one concession I'll make them is that no one has made a decent Battle Network clone yet, otherwise it's just time to move on.

I had Mega Man 2, and it was awesome. Then I got Mega Man 3 and realized that the Shadow Blade was just a shittier Metal Blade and that Snake Man's weapon was exactly the same as Bubble Man's weapon, and I lost interest. I don't understand playing the same fucking game for over 3 decades.

You see I tried to join that server before and signed up for it, but the accounts have to be manually approved by a mod. So I never actually got an account activation email from them in the first place. At least you can actually play on the smaller servers without that lazy bullshit.

So its not dead yet, but the pro COD community is fucking gay and awful and its dying because nobody wants to watch and Activision set it up like Overwatch so its doomed to fail.

Theres no hardcoded gear system, so its all based on "gentleman's agreements", the pros all basically decide what guns are fair to use and then if you break their arbitrary fake made up rule system you are not allowed to practice with them anymore. This has boiled the pro game down to like 2 guns and 1 set of attachments out of literal hundreds, and they even go as far as "GA'ing" movement glitching that can be done in game like snaking.

The CDL is failing miserably though so it wont be around much longer, and Microsoft already laid off most of the pro division staff.

This kind of counts, but Overwatch. One. OW had the most backward and counterintuitive design by making it a team based game where multiple characters were too weak and the average person was a dumb cunt that couldn't understand basic strategies, rules, or mechanics. This wouldn't be the worst combo ever if the game wasn't built upon the idea of working together. I could go on about all the dumb shit in OW, but what makes it real terrible is that everyone is competing within the same team 99% of the time. I don't really care about "toxicity", but when the game requires teamwork with people who refuse to use it, everything becomes a waste of time.

After so so many years of the servers running, the game became a gameified social media of sorts.

The furry and alphabet community run rampant.

Actual community server rule:
3. No toxic people.

>toxic

- Mega Man X (a rip off of Casshern/Casshan)
- Mega Man Battle Network (Pokemon ripoff)
- Mega Man Zero (Kikaider ripoff)
- Mega Man Star Force (a ripoff of the Pokemon ripoff)
- Mega Man ZX (a ripoff of the Kikaider ripoff)
- Mega Man Legends (I cannot recall the name at the time, but it's a direct ripoff of a manga

I get the essence of the shitpost but battle network plays nothing at all like a pokemon game. As for Casshern and Kikaider, we all know the derivative loop of japanese media by now.

because theyre only a couple hours long and the stages and hazards are different. The game is the levels, is your brain so fucked that you only enjoy the dopamine of the rewards each stage grants you? The enjoyment of the games comes fron navigating the various hazards.

I've had it take about 24 hours in the past, but I've never had anyone I know or myself been fully rejected. That's strange.

No offense to our resident Mormon welder, but I think the vast majority of Fate fans are fart-huffing, pretentious dicks. They'll write doctoral theses about why their chosen story route is the best one because of its Kirkegaardian existentialism and anti-Byronic neo-Platonic undercurrents, and if you dare suggest it's anything short of the best fiction ever written, they'll dump every word of their autistic thesis onto your monitor. Personally I think you lose the ability to call your work high art when you include unnecessary sex scenes between teenagers, but I'm sure the average Fate fan will be more than happy to patiently explain to a lowbrow simpleton like me that, no, it's actually critically important to the neo-anti-proto-Nietzscheian solipsistic allegory for the teenagers to have a threesome.

They've been mentioned multiple times, but Dark Souls fans. They're way too eager to explain to you why every criticism you have of any Souls game is in fact your fault. "You think the chest that teleports you to a high-level dungeon is a beginner's trap? No, child, for you see, there was a single pixel of blood five hallways back, which was the game's way of training you to avoid the chest! You see, it is you who is the problem, not the game!"

"NO, my sweet summer child, it is YOU who has the brain damage because you don't appreciate the subtle nuanced differences between Fire Man, Heat Man, Napalm Man, Torch Man, Magma Man and Flame Man." :story:
