What are some dead games or niche games that have annoying communities?

While the Racing Game genre is niche as a whole, the Gran Turismo and Sim Racing communities standout in terms of their annoyance.

Gran Turismo fans think of the game, as well as it's creator, Kazunori Yamauchi, way too high for what it's worth, claiming things such as the game living up to it's namesake of being THE REAL DRIVING SIMULATOR, (when it is not, since it's a Simcade that leans more on the Sim-side, compared to Forza) it has the best graphics of any racing game, being able to play it in 3D with PSVR2, the amount of SUPERIOR JDM CARS it has, etc.

Sim Racing, as the namesake says, is focus on trying to replicate the racing experience 1:1. I'm not sure how well Sim Racing games do when it comes to that though.

I have three suggestions. Although two a bit more general groups than a single game.

First is retro gamers, especially retro platform game fans. Ever since the Xbox 360, perhaps sooner, they've done nothing but piss and complain about modern games being inferior to retro games. Even going so far as to claim mascot platformers and Street Fighter 2 clones are inherently more creative than any FPS (the popular genre at the time).

What's annoying about them is that you'd think the revival that happened with the rise of indie games would make them happy, but it didn't. It didn't have Mario or Megaman on the box, therefor it doesn't count for some vague reason or another.

The second is beta/prototype fans. Unreleased games or early versions of released games are a fascinating subject. What I don't understand is why there's so much drama over hoarding roms. There's always drama about who releases what build at what time instead of putting that out in the world to be archived and enjoyed.

But the third, Starfox. I love me some Starfox. It's a series that has a lot of potential that is all but abandoned by Nintendo. But the fanbase was so petty and dumb. It's hard to explain, but to use modern language, they were more interested in tone policing, petty squabbling, and gatekeeping than actually discussing things related to the games. I guess this is understandable after years if not decades without anything worthwhile to discuss, but it's still bad.

Fan projects often showed promise then died suddenly. I talked to one guy that worked on one years after the fact, and he said he dropped it due harassment from the community. This was before such Tumblrism was common and how to deal with it was well known.

I checked on a couple of old communities when the N64 build of Dinosaur Planet leaked. One was dead, and the other refused to talk about it because it was a leak and not official or some nonsense.

The Silent Hill fandom are laughably retarded,
Yes. I'm playing through SIlent Hill 4 due to the recommendation of a Kiwi that said the common fanbase opinion of it was bullshit.

They can't decide what they want. It's like the entire series is just SH2 and everything else doesn't count.

One of my favourites was a video I can't find (likely pulled) that said that Mary's outfit suggested innocence and purity, only for it to be later revealed to be a Con Air reference.

Racing Game genre is niche as a whole, the Gran Turismo and Sim Racing communities standout in terms of their annoyance.
I could go on a long rant about this. Raycervick has some bad takes, but his video on racing games is spot on.

In short, people throw a fit if a game is not "realistic", and only care about raw numbers like number of real world cars and tracks, even if the game is completely broken.

I have no idea how it spawned a series, same for Ratchet & Clank.
Ratchet and Clank gets better with each subsequent game. Deadlock/Gladiator being one of my all time favourite games ever.

One thing about Jak I loved was the animation was so smooth and the world, music, and atmosphere was awe inspiring. I remember watching this trailer on a demo disc over and over and over again.
Maybe it seems dated by today's standards.

Most Retro gamers are absolutely insufferable, particularly the ones that annoy me the most are the shitheads that sperg out the moment you dare allude that perhaps some games just simply didn't age that well and aren't flawless masterpieces
the other cunts are the ones who act like crybaby bitches over emulation and really get mad at other people for not wanting to play on hardware or preferring to play with certain utensils like savestates, filters, ect
another special mention goes to purists that lose their mind over modern features that help the game actually be more accessible and enjoyable and act like the shit wouldn't be in the normal game if it was released today

Star Fox community I never interacted much with despite loving 64 and enjoying assault but the fans always did give me volatile hostility vibes that i'd imagine would be even more apparent if you stepped deeper into the community so none of that really surprises me

Pre-WoW MMOs are both some of my favorite games and they seem to only be populated by either super chill people that have let the game's place in their life grow with them or the most unlikable creatures I have ever met.
I mentioned this before on the farms but I used to play UO in the early days when it came out, moved on to the "free shards" and I sometimes visit the old hangouts (those that are still up at least) and it's absolutely amazing to see the same people still playing the same political intrigue games and still having the same basic discussions about the same shit. It's been 25 years now. Jesus Christ. People like -=Dragonking=- and !Frodo! are at least in their 40s now.

San Andreas Multiplayer was pretty cool until it got overran by foreigners, like a long time ago.

It hasn't been updated in almost 10 years and the base game doesn't behave on newer computers.

I guess it has a community, if you speak Russian or Spanish.
Sorry for the double post, but this post just made me laugh.

Nothing is funnier than playing GTA World on RageMP for GTAIV and having a bunch of Europoor admins explain to me, an American, how my rights work and what is realistic for American police to do.

I remember on LS-RP back in the day they were realistic enough to make the shit you'd get up to feel important and compelling without this super autistic lean into realism that turns it from a game into a job.

GT2 was the best game of the series and the current iteration is horseshit. All the people whining pissing and moaning about it need to drink bleach.

Aurora4x and Dominions have all the trappings of agonizingly autistic, discord-centric communities. Already-solved math being recalculated while Generic AGP #623 squawks their life blog over the top next to custom emotes of their comfort animals of choice.

RuneScape full stop. A game that was very much a product of its time with a virtual economy purely driven by repetitive clicking for hours on end. BossmanJack originally did staking in old school RuneScape (underground gambling with in game pvp basically) to give you an idea of the kind of people it attracts.

In my experience, you can chart a fandom's decline to a couple of things:

1) Prevalence of women of a certain type (read: fujoshis, the sex obsessed)

2) Prevalence of browns (particularly from Latin America) with an extremely poor grasp of English

3) Prevalence of LGBTQ+ types

If these are a significant proportion of prominent figures in a given fandom, avoid it like the plague. It will be a vortex of autism and stupid drama. You can literally chart fandom decline in some cases by watching if relatively well adjusted white dudes are interested and steering discussion, it's absurd.

Mega Man.

To inform everyone:

The Mega Man series started in 1987 on NES. It was a bugged mess that didn't get much notice until its sequel Mega Man 2, which ended up selling over a million units worldwide. This coerced Capcom to make many more sequels, Mega Man is up to sequel number 11 as of now. 11 was created 5 years ago.

Mega Man has had several spin-offs.

- Mega Man X (a rip off of Casshern/Casshan)
- Mega Man Battle Network (Pokemon ripoff)
- Mega Man Zero (Kikaider ripoff)
- Mega Man Star Force (a ripoff of the Pokemon ripoff)
- Mega Man ZX (a ripoff of the Kikaider ripoff)
- Mega Man Legends (I cannot recall the name at the time, but it's a direct ripoff of a manga)

This over saturated the market in the late 90s/early 2000s. Only Battle Network and Zero had an ending.

This is where the deranged fan base comes in. Their current cope is that "Rockman Taisen" was in the Capcom leaks, it's suggested to be a fighting game. You've got a portion of the base screaming for updates about this game that may not exist, and the rest of the base?

Demanding X9.

This unhinged autist made a 57 minute video as an "open letter" to Capcom, with a "list of demands" because he's been waiting too long!!!!!! He has nothing to live for where is his X9?!?!?!

I actually wonder if Revo has been talked about here considering he had a wife that trooned out (ftm) and has commissions done of his persona having sex with official characters.

Regardless, there are numerous crazies that go directly to Capcom USA's Twitter and for every single Mega Man post, they demand X9.

Did I tell you Mega Man X8 came out 20 years ago ...? They don't know how to let the dead rest.

I won't even get into how the first mod made for Mega Man X Dive Offline was to put the 10 year old character, Roll, back into her schoolgirl swimsuit that was axed from the game due to it being a pedo fetish. But the base is all full of gooners sexualizing little girl characters. How they showed up in a dead fan base for dead series is beyond me.

"Interactive fiction", aka text adventures for pretentious fuckwits. There's some gems out there, but there's also a lot of lolrandom monkeycheese "humour" and fucked up porn.
Case in point, I went on TextAdventures.co.uk to see if Zork had aged as badly as I remembered (it has) and the "latest comments" feed is shit like this:

I just wanted to play Zork. :(

It's pretty funny if you dare try to tell them that there's enough Mega Man already or to seek out alternatives. No, it must have Mega Man in the title or else! Never mind Corrupted has been in development by that Brazilian autist for over ten years now, please be patient!

I was alive during Mega Man's heyday. Capcom was pumping out a new one every year, and once the handhelds took off there would occasionally be two a year from different spinoff series. There's more than enough to keep Mega Man autists busy. The one concession I'll make them is that no one has made a decent Battle Network clone yet, otherwise it's just time to move on.

This is what I mean by ESL browns being a problem. I don't know how to put it, but a fandom lives and dies by its fan content.

There is just something wrong with fanwork made by Latin American (and Muslims, oddly). Even if it is artistically proficient, which it often isn't, there's always some kind of weird slapdash jank, usually in characterization.

Like, say, Dragon Ball Z Mugen characters. You just know when a LATAM person made one. Maybe someone else can explain it better.
