What are some dead games or niche games that have annoying communities?

No idea how the NiGHTS community was before, but now as everyone keeps referring to the main character as "they/them" it's just plain insufferable.
Wow. They definitely don't know their lore. Manual lists he/she/it as pronouns, not they.

Gemstone IV is still around and pretty welcoming of new players. The F2P account does actually suck and is extremely limited though.

The pay to win stuff isn't really super relevant. You can hunt everything in the game with cheap 4X gear.
Thanks. I visited their site before but the pricing really scared me off. I wouldn't mind throwing few bucks but $25 is a bit much. That and their weird client. Maybe I will still check it out.

Starseige Tribes:
Great worldbuilding and background lore, but its not in any of the games besides the first one, which is a Mechwarrior 3 clone but with mass effect's reapers about a decade before Mass effect. Naming conventions aside, they ditched the "starseige" part of the title and just named the series "Tribes" and decided to go PVP only for some reason and become "quake but with jetpacks" and no one ever really talked about those games.

The playerbase seems to be sequestered to dead discord servers and oddly passive to an autistic degree about it. Despite it being its own uncontested "FPS-Z" niche, it doesn't have any memorable unique weapons like quake/unreal or even combined arms warfare for some reason. When its always being referenced heavily in universe and none of the developers or fans ever seem to consider it. Outside of referencing the cancelled Starseige 2845 fan project, that even had series writer Blake Hutchins, helping to work on it back around 2006.

Now its basically a place to just shitpost or doomfag about "how all its lost and can't possibly get any better" with the usual discordnigger scavengers trying to plagiarize older works via patreon shilling. When the fanbase and in universe characters clearly demonstrated in the past that a little collaborative effort can go a long way.

Yeah, it's actually pretty insane. Players have been yelling at them to reduce the price of a standard account for years to attract new players. They're a poorly managed company.

95% of their revenue comes from whales who spend hundreds of dollars a month on the game anyway (I had two premium accounts back when I used to play and that's not even close to what some people do.)

APB: Reloaded. Very dead game and very, very shitty community. It's sad because the core gameplay is fucking great. When you get a good game going there's nothing better on the market, but good luck getting a good game going. The company that runs it now is at least good, but they've been promising to revive the game for years now and it's a fool's errand.

Give APB furfags a break, it's the only content update they've had in 11 years.

If farming Waterfront missions doesn't deter you from re-installing this shit, remember that you'll now have to install an AI-powered anticheat with Ring 0 privileges made in slavland that nobody has heard about until now. I dunno about you, but the whole thing reeks of shady, and considering the game's track record with anti-cheats, well...

TBF Fallout 1/2/Tactics and newer ones might as well be from 2 different universes, no wonder 3 and beyond are annoying to them and annoying themselves. I'm saying this as a fan of the former and detractor of the latter. Too bad Van Buren was cancelled, birds tweet it was mostly complete before being cancelled so we missed out on an old school Fallout game, but in full 3D.
