1: They thought Europe has "a higher standard of living" than the USA (this was before that winter with the energy crisis BTW).

2: They thought left and right American politics were all right wing -- somehow they couldn't see the differences between them.

I could put this post in reply to pretty much anything in the thread, but this seems relevant. What you need to realize with the psychology of these people, whether it be the snobby coastal liberal or the snobby inferiority complex anti-Americanist yuropoor, is that when they refer to America, they refer to Red America. They're talking about Luisiana, fundamentalist Evangelicals, conversion camps, evil oil tycoons with gallon hats, and and all the naughty parts of American imperialism. Of course, in reality, America is controlled by Blue America. It is the Silicon Valley techbros who do yoga and make sure AI puts niggers in everything that controls the tech sphere. It is the left-leaning Academia and media that manufactures consent and determine the limits of official magisterial ideology. Washington is really blue, and as much as the EU wished it could become its own federation, Europe is still a vassal state of Washington. Liberal urban Europe and Blue America is really the same thing, with the same politics. This is why Europeans all act the same as American liberals when the Republicans win something, though they speak as if they think the Dems and Reps are both super hecking right wing. And it is also why liberal Americans can act self-depricating about their country as opposed to enlightened Europe, even though without American hegemony, Europe would be a collection of Fascist states today.

Needs a section on how 99% of european countries are poorer than Mississippi the US's poorest state.

How much of that is a result of the self reported wealth of big pharma, banks and insurers? Assessing wealth and living standards is not a simple matter of looking up the increasingly debased GDP, unemployment and inflation stats. Even disposable income isn'ta big help if actual prices and low interest rates eat it up.. Also a big enough salary means little if a family home verges towards the high six figure and every damn thing costs so much. It's not easy.

Seems it's already going that way. German government actually wants to ban the conservative "far right" party. And of course one can face serious legal consequences in the UK and at least some states in the EU for posting "wrongthink" on the internet. Things such as "misgendering" a "transgender" on "social media", questioning the Holocaust*, questioning if unrestricted mass immigration is really a good thing after all, and other "spicy" "wrongthink" "harmful hate speech" can get one fined or even arrested in a number of European countries. Countries that Wikipedia claims are "the most free in the world" BTW.** Not as strong 1st Amendment equivalent.

* While evidence shows a holocaust really happened, it's still illegal to deny it in a number of places.

I think that despite quite a number of issues with America, the country may very well be the most free country on this planet.

Western European and Canadian governments are going very woke, and even minor "wrongthink" on the internet can get one in big legal trouble there - especially in Germany now. In communist and a number of developing states, criticizing the government is a no-no. Japanese society is very conformist, and there's no "fair use" in copyright law there - jail time for even minor copyright infringement (or so I heard). And of course Australia became an authoritarian dystopia with "The New Normal" and coronapanic.
