Private/Direct Messages Chain Spam Issue

  • 🔧 At about Midnight EST I am going to completely fuck up the site trying to fix something.

No, DMs are still good for digging into a target as a group without the threat of a DFE (the zoosadism investigation groups make heavy use of this). It's also good for drafting posts before posting them publicly (I did this for the Torswats thread).

I left my animal posting dm thread and regret it, should I just make a public thread or is there already one? it'd be titled similarly to the dm chain except it'd be "random animal videos in this thread"
I think there's a "cute animals" thread or something like that in the General Discussions board.

It's very normal to want the approval of the community. Humans are hard-wired for it.
It's dopamine-maxing.

remove reactions
Remove all except the thumbs-up like reaction. Go old-school.

I will say this is really nice, no need to sort through my MOUNTAINS of positive reddit karma reactions to see who responds to the gold that are my shit posts. I end up missing stuff sometimes when I check in the next day on the site.

I do think a good compromise would be to allow people to see score on profiles. As others have said, its a good indicator of retards on the site that isnt a pink triangle.

And incentivize using Sneedchat, because it's so easy for spergery to arise when you can instantly post short text messages instead of full forum posts.

I know that because the two times I got banned was because of Sneedchat.
at this point you telling me what to do is probably the most surefire way to get me to not consider it.
Commit yourself to a keto diet, don't ever use cheddar on anything, cultivate as many banana peppers as you can. :smug:

@Null what if you set up a Gated Communities subforum where every thread OP could threadban anyone they don't like from their own thread, so people can have dedicated-topic threads for unpopular/controversial stuff like vtubers, furry shit, manhate, partisan politics or whatever that are publicly visible but protected from the mad spergs shitting them up because they don't like the topic?

does this not work? I get notifications very reliably.
I don't want to get notifications for all the threads I have on the watched threads list. A lot of them I care enough to add them to the list to be able to jump to quickly, but do not necessarily care about being informed the instant there is a new post.

I used the reaction notification to check up on to threads I posted on recently without having to load a new page and without worrying about whether or not the thread is on my watch list. I don't really get the people who obsessed with muh reddit karma equivalent but my use case for the notifications had nothing about caring about what the actual notification was.

If you're going to disable the reaction notification please make it possible to sort the watched threads list by the last time *I* made a post on each thread. This would probably be preferable because actual notifications like "replied to your message" get buried under a mountain of worthless reaction notifications. Or even choosing which threads give a forum notification.

I think this is a good idea that way I can still have the satisfaction of knowing some faggot likely knows I gave them a trashcan.
Yeah I like the stickernotifs as a soft way of gauging people reading and adding new activity to a thread but ill give this watched thingo a whirl

Also it was fun to see when people would find an ole post of mine funny

I don't think we should be taking any efforts to make people like that more comfortable than they already are. If anything, I think we should be warning them that "hey retards, even in DMs your shit will get doxed and mad trannies will call up your boss and the guy you disagreed with four months ago will change his pfp to your face".
Again, I agree with you fully. I like that part of the site’s culture. I just point all this out in response to this;
I think that if people feel they can't talk conversationally on the main off-topic boards, I'm doing something really wrong and I'd like to see how it can be loosened up.
I don’t think Null or the jannies are doing anything wrong, I think the site’s culture is just inherently not friendly to casual conversation (at least in the off-topic boards as most of those are hobby-centric)

you know you could have just turned that off, right?
Maintains incentive to post quality content, without gamifying it.
no, it incentivizes making popular posts, not quality posts.
