Should sticker notifications be brought back?

Guess I will be taking a break from the farms then. Consider it my form of "protest" but then again, he can just see the lowered engagement as the "dopaminine retards" just leaving the site and how thats a "good thing".

I'm not really sure what the right move is either, but Ill stick to this thread just to show solidarity. Maybe slow down and gather everything said here for a proper case to be made when the subject is revisited.
Null thinks everyone is very interested in only a few cows or threads, therefore I should Watch, bookmark, or keep their tabs open. But I am casually interested in many cows, and ephemerally interested in many threads that are only relevant for a few days. KF has good tools for the first model, but not good tools for the latter model; sticker notifications weren't perfect, but they worked, and there's no reason to make that engagement model harder by removing them.
Part of that is most likely the proliferation of Beauty Parlor and the BossmanJack subforums, where neither step a single inch outside their comfort zone. It doesn't help that Null is more invested in Bossman than any other cow.

Ironic that the DM threads were meant to bridge those divided communities together...

I mean, maybe he just believed you when you repeatedly said your objection was motivated purely by being "a lazy faggot"?

Convenience and ease of use are perfectly valid reasons to object to a forum-wide change. And I'm making it absolutely clear it has nothing to do with some fixation on stickers.

i can imagine the decision driving down engagement and the number of overall posts, since fewer people will care about their posts' reactions. the payoff is supposed to be only people who care about the thread, rather than about the updoots, will post, thus leading to threads that don't move as fast and are less shitted up. getting a vibe of "cutting off your nose to spite your face".

i lost all my updoots from being locked out of my old account anyway, so i don't really give a shit, but it's a pretty dramatic change to a basic feature of the site. hope it works out well.

But you're completely dismissing the very justified motivation he laid out for making that forum-wide change. You're ignoring him while characterising it as him ignoring you. But he was clearly listening, it's just that what he was listening to was spastic whining, so thanks.

To be perfectly honest, Im not that convinced Null has a good justification either. Just in the vein of 'faggots shouldn't even bother'
Really inconvenient to check for replies and ratings on a thread you interact with to see if there is any new activity(:_(
I think the followed threads being on top is good though I don't follow that many threads.

Edit: What's a reaction score?

I think he's letting the sticker autists cloud his understanding of engagement.
He literally is throwing a bitch fit because people don't use the site the same way he thinks they should. XenForo, the company that actually wrote this forum, included reaction notifications because that's what people actually care about. They also included the ability to turn off those notifications, which makes it ironic when null spergs about how we don't use the forum tools properly.
I hate the buzzword, but that's literally what drives people to use a site. Forums are less gay than Twitter or Instagram, which hyper-focus the dopamine hits of engagement; but that doesn't mean forums can just ignore that aspect.
Null is behaving exactly like the big tech trannies he claims to hate. If you don't behave the way he wants you to online he will literally break the site to force your behavior. It makes all the complaints about Cloudflare even funnier.

There wasn't an option to switch it off before?
Wait.. do people really care if they get stickers that disagree with them??
There has always been the option to switch it off.

So if less people post because of the cumbersome UI, Null sees that as a win. And if traffic stays the same, Null sees that as proof it didnt matter?

A bit of a lose-lose scenario, there lol

No. I support his decision to hide reaction scores. I dont even mind the deprioritization of stickers, or reducing them. I perfectly understand his initial approach.

I just fail to see how notifications have to do with those decisions. Or if they were even made in the best frame of mind for the site's future.

i'm sure all the threats-by-proxy and insinuating stuff about his mentals over needing to click one extra time will reverse the decision. it definitely doesn't sound like you're in withdrawal from the thing you absolutely don't care about

Null's been complaining about silos for years, and now he's telling us all to use tools that encourage siloing. Notifications weren't a great tool, and they weren't a specific "spread people out" tool, but they could be and were being used by people like me who spread out across the site. Killing them kills many things, among them that ability to casually engage wherever there's interest.

I post in 3-4 A&N articles a day. What were the ones from yesterday? Which ones are still active? How do I know if people came back to it after a few days, say when another related article hits the news?

Yes, I can go to My Postings on my account, but that's cluttered up with my postings in regular threads like lawsuit threads, Q&A shitposts, off-topic threads, and the few cows I follow. It's also every post, not every thread, so it's being cluttered up by multiple posts in the same thread, including this one once I finish typing. It also requires multiple clicks and navigating away from my current page; if I wanted to answer my above questions, I'd have to go to a new tab or leave this one.

I shouldn't have to Watch every random A&N thread I drop a "lol sneed" comment in. I shouldn't need to re-visit every slow-moving off topic thread to see if people like my joke about how Linux sucks.

Sticker notifications gave real-time feedback on a lot of that stuff. Not perfectly, but well enough that it saves tons of user time and clicks.

If you're taking anything said on a literal shitposter's website seriously, you're an even bigger faggot than I gave you credit for.

I'm advocating for my own user experience, and enjoying the experience of a dozen kiwis banding together for a single purpose within the span of hours. All you're doing is doubling down and convincing no one.

Heck, you said you dont care about my opinion. Why should I your's?

whoah it's like the exact thing I said to you except you've forgotten it was a reply to your dismissiveness in the first place.
can't wait to find out if the art of following a conversation comes back to kiwis now the drip is cut off and the reward for hit-and-run reaction farming is gone

"Do it, Null. Make your site more less convenient out of spite. It is your destiny."
