It has been difficult to get a straight answer out of anyone honestly, including Null. Doesnt help that asking questions or raising up good points is often met with mockery and insults (they dont make any sense when you think about it).

The jist of it is that a minority of posters annoyed Null over DMs and sticker notifications a lot and this is his punishment to "set us straight" in how to handle the farms. Even tho nearly everyone else hasnt done anything to him or were even involved in this mess to begin with.

It is his site, true, but it all just felt harsh and hasty. I havent seen a single person actually complaining about them outside of very few and you they tend to ignore they can just manually turn off the feature.

Just doesnt seem like a good move for the site, you know?

Case uhh closed....?
what pissed null off was that people were making mass dm chains initially because they didn't want people to negrate them and affect their reaction score. null thought that was really retarded and now we're here

that is indeed really retarded
but is it wise to shape site policy around the feelings of 'people' who are doing gay furry erp in catlers dm chains?

The real problem imo is people using the DM function as a hugbox hangout, I'm more offended at people using the site in this way than people using the sticker reactions as a pseudo watch thread feature. Why even use this site like that? It makes absolutely no sense to me why @Null is less offended at conversations being used like discord than he is and people being mad he removed a somewhat useful feature.

I agree with him that is, indeed, retarded as all fuck.

I simply disagree with actions afterwards affecting everyone. Idk, man, we are site to mock retards so why punish us all for the retardation of a group instead of just mocking them too? The rules state for you to not act like a retard or we will mock you too so I'd assume thats a core principle of the farms.

I would be totally behind him if he opened this for discussion or/and a thread to show mongoloids how to manually turn off the feature and leave us all with a warning. Its just going from 8-80 just feels wrong, ya know?

please, stress, really emphasize to me just how useful the arbitrary links to every post you've ever made are. it's a really convincing argument. it cuts to the quick. it really makes me want to reply with a full and honest response. the site is simply navigable without them.

Serious question. What autism? What complaints were there prior to the removal of functionality?

All I’ve heard is that there was an epidemic of zoomer / furfag shitposting and annoying people through mass DMs. (I was added to one. I uninvited myself. The end)

And from somewhere this has been attributed to certain users not liking being rated dumb when they annoy people, and acting out as a result. That’s a theory, but it seems a bit far fetched.

Trying to understand why those people can’t just be told to moderate their own behaviour if they can’t stand virtual dirty looks from others. Or to at least inform them how to turn the feature off so that they can ignore it.

I know it’s not a big deal really but I’d like to hear the reasoning if there was any, rather than people reverse justifying it.
I don't know specific examples but I would imagine there's a reason he disabled them. I really don't see the big deal because I have had them disabled through my options for years

No it's fucking stupid.
You in particular are such a pathetic queer. I hope you're autistic and I hope this change really genuinely upsets you. I want to step on your thing and break it in front of you. I cannot fucking believe how fucking gay you are. It's like listening to Wingsofredemption dog whimper over CoD trolls. It spins my sympathy all the way around to contempt.

Imagine if a few men suddenly started dressing as women and going into their changing rooms and acting inappropriate and skeeving everyone out.

> let’s just remove women’s changing rooms, that’ll teach em for bitching about it

They are just mad because they can't be chads who know they are right regardless of stickers. That was an excellent point you made on that MATI podcast. Post what you want become ungovernable.

personally i think sticker notifications are just spam and clutter, they shit up the notification feed and make it near useless so i have them disabled
but i guess people who use the site less feel differently
like when you make one post a week then it's probably nice to get these "senpai noticed your post uwu" notifications every once in a while

I mean at this point it's not worth explaining to you why convenience in UX on here is good, and removing said convenience is a net negative, you've made up your mind and I'll get over it. Really the DM faggotry bothers me more, mostly because I didn't realize how it was being used til I was invited to one today. If we're going to be taking away features people use that you find annoying, why not take on the problem that started all this at its roots?

You're misunderstanding. Sticker farming isn't high effort, it's low effort spam. Here's an example:

I could spend 20-30 minutes making a giga effort post with spoilers and images and everything archived and wow, 50 reactions - amazing.
In that 30 minutes I could also make 10 low effort posts like "keffals is fat and has man tits" AKA "lolcow bad and cringe" and farm 100 reactions.

The latter is farming, the former is being a good contributor. The problem isn't that people are amassing reactions, it's that it rewards people for flinging shit at the wall.
A lot of people post assorted funny & cute photos in Random Pics & Gifs that they just pull from Reddit or wherever, and farm stickers there. That is largely what that thread is. You reliably get like a dozen likes/winners/whatevers and it's like a private little awards show where people come out of the woodwork to tell you how great you are for your miniscule contribution. That is why so many people like the sticker notifications.

Post quality never equates to lots of upvotes, because a well-written post isn't as punchy as a riff on a tranny, or a picture of a cute puppy.

i think it was more that he had an epiphany of sorts, that people were using the site incorrectly, that using reacts to go back to threads you already posted in is stupid. let's say someone made a post that got a lot of pozrates, what would happen is that they would return to the thread they posted in and kind of farm updoots instead of engaging with other threads that could even potentially be hostile to their ideas.

sorry if i'm putting words in your mouth, nool

I mean, not really, I just liked the way it was before and I like to complain.

I'm glad the dislike of your changes by a random member of your site can cause you so much seething and petty rage.

I want to put something into perspective.

We have a dedicated warning for ratings. Of all the items on this list, this is the oldest warning that has never been changed.
1709828741254.png

This adds you to a group with one permission change: no ratings.
1709828800780.png

There are currently 119 users banned from ratings. This does not include users who have been banned from ratings and are now unbanned because of a time expiration.
1709828851038.png

Further, there are 174 users who are warned (actively and formerly) with this warning. This does not include users who had the group applied manually.

> select count(1) from xf_warning where warning_definition_id=16;
| 174 |

The word "rating" appears in the report table over 1000 times.

> select count(1) from xf_report_comment where message LIKE "%rating%";
| 1069 |

Do you know why this happens? Because of the notifications. It's not the post ratings. It's that when the button is pressed, that user is instantly given indication that they've been downvoted on a post.

It has been repeatedly instructed to me over and over again that breaking "UX" that people are already used to is bad design, that I am fighting human nature. No, human nature is emotional and fickle. Human nature is seeing that Hitler rated your post in the Cheese thread "dumb" and getting upset, reporting him for 'revenge rating', opening Hitler's post history and rating his posts "dumb" so that he also gets notifications in kind. Human nature is creating brand new accounts for the sole purpose of rating Hitler's posts "dumb" so that he can't obviously see that it's you doing it, which he may report to me as being a potential sock account so I have to actually investigate this.

Don't believe me? We have another category called Introduced User.
1709829206895.png

What does this do? It takes you off mod queue and allows you to rate posts. Why does it exist? Because it adds an effort/difficulty buffer between registration and rating Hitler's posts dumb. Guess why that is needed.

People want to talk and they don't want to deal with bullshit that impedes their talking. That's why they scurry off to DMs or Discord. Do I think that is correct? No, I wish people just used the system as designed and didn't care. That's not what human nature is though.

So don't fucking lecture me that I'm taking away a beloved feature with no downside. I want to fucking strangle you fucking faggots. I've been dealing with you dumb mongoloid pieces of shit and your fucking sticker fetish for over 5 fucking years and I am done. No more notifications. Figure out something else.
