As GG kept moving along, I caught myself wondering something. Getting to see how all these journos behaved, who they hung out with, what they did in their spare time, revealed that these people didn't really seem to like games very much. They didn't have anything else to do with themselves, so they dug into this game shit. I can look back on twenty year old console and PC gaming magazines and pick-up on how excited, interested, and motivated the writers were about the games they enjoyed. With these people, not so much. There was some other motivation. So how did these people, with nothing to offer the world, with no skills or talents for anything valuable, manage to sink their claws so fucking deep into the industry? The people who love games, people who are much more productive and talented by comparison, don't seem to be occupying any places of power in the 'game space'.

Starting to understand that they don't have an ideology so much as they just want to destroy everything others enjoy. Bitter, cynical people, who hate you for having a good time. At least with gaming once this shit is found out there is big pushback. Now I wonder where all these roaches will scurry off to now that the light in the kitchen has been turned on.

From what we’ve seen of the last few years, probably anime, considering the talk of the localization scene and AI. That’s probably their next big target.

As for Kim and the bitter people: it’s funny how in this day of DIYamd indie creations, these folks have to be a part of the major scene, and also expect to be treated like they’re God’s gift to the industry.

You can make a game and put it out on Steam , self publish a book or a comic, make a movie or animation and put it on YouTube, and just share it with the public and feel good you made something, and if it takes off and you want to impress more than family and friends, you can keep going and even get a bunch of money through crowdfunding once you get a good enough following,

But these folks only want to be associated with the biggest and best and most lucrative names out there because they feel that’s an easier way to get acceptance from the Twitter and Tumblr accounts that they feel represents “the people”. And their ego can’t take the possibility that their shit doesn’t stink, so that’s why they’re always going to work on established IPs instead of letting their original material be judged by the open market. It’s pretty sad really. If they had something resembling humility, maybe we wouldn’t be here.

I love how the response to those who oppose SBI is always “you must be a white man and probably a nazi.” As a mother who just enjoys video games, it really does make it difficult to stand against trash like KTSS and Forspoken, because no one will just focus on what’s at the core: the games. Bad games. I don’t care what your political views are or what you do in your personal lives, but if the games associated with you are poorly written, highly monetized and have uninspired gameplay, I won’t want to buy games with your name on it.

Developers need to focus on telling original and compelling stories with creative, fun gameplay. If that happens and your game happens to be “inclusive” or whatever, no one would complain. Just make good games.

It really boils down to quality or lack there of for alot of people. You can put politics into games ( its going to happen anyway ) but when the game is insufferable it doesn't help in any way.

I would be if it was real life, but Elden Ring is a video game. And tbh I'm very happy that the player can even choose a female PC (and doesn't penalize you for doing so) in Elden Ring; pre-Gamergate, that was a rare feature and it usually caused guys like you to seethe about it not being "realistic" (again, in a video game.) So the fact that they labeled the body types 1 and 2 is pretty much a nonissue to me.

I don't recall many games that made women objectively weaker. I've been playing games since the atari. You might be right, I remember my brother and I tended to prefer male characters in beatem ups back in the day because while slower, they hit harder and had more health. I digress though.

I've been a gamer all my life, the only things I've seethed about were shit monetization and being preached at.

Speculation: Considering that Laidlaw left and was the backbone of Half Life 2 Episode 3 / Half Life 3's story they probably followed suit. Those couple of years were also some of the lowest for non steam storefront because of games like Overwatch and Fortnite taking the world by storm at the time which would explain Wolpaw and Pinkerton's leave (writers for Team Fortress 2, the game that hasn't had a meaningful update since 2017 and the comic made for it has never concluded.)
