Western Animation - Discuss American, Canadian, and European cartoons here (or just bitch about wokeshit, I guess)

Reviews for Kung Fu Panda 4 are starting to come in. It started at 81% for reference's sake.

Positives are animation, music, fight scenes, Jack Black still being great as Po etc. and negatives are the story being too predictable and the basic plot beats feeling derivative. Not really surprising given it's been so long since the last film, they probably felt that people needed a refresher. It's seemingly still a good time overall, just won't leave much of an impression after the fact.

I thought 2 and 3 were so boring I forgot what they were about. I think they mostly make them for the Chinese after the first one.

First trailer for it dropped today:
>no dialogue for the animals OR the robot
>movie looks gorgeous
>head of story for Puss in Boots: The Last Wish is on this one
>directed by Chris Sanders

Guys.....throw out the rainbows....but The Prince of Egypt might finally be de-throned by this as Dreamworks' best animated film yet.
Well, at least it will have a much better plot than Kung Fu Panda 4.

New trailer for Inside Out 2 just dropped.

This is just gonna be turning red again, only 1 white person and 3 misc browns (only 1 of them asianish looking despite san fran having 7x more asians that black people) in a friend group and probably vague lesbian implications (with generic mystery brown cool girl with red signature color, I feel like ive seen at least 5 of those recently with 4 of em being lesbos) and puberty shit and 'repression bad' plotline and all, probably with significantly less twerking and 9/11 memes tho but if anything that just makes it boring

Rip her white boyfriend also

Anxiety being a literal near supervillian tho is a bit unexpected, ill give them that

I also think Pixar's been mixed in recent years (and that's being generous), but if there's one IP I'll give the benefit of the doubt to it's Inside Out. I could very easily be proven wrong since Pete Docter isn't directing the sequel, but time will tell on that one.
This video explains why Pixar has been all downhill as Disney/Pixar was hellbent on their own existing IPs as well as original movies, most of which that try to copy the first 10-minute tearjerker shit from Up and end up being movies made for babies and middle-aged wine moms

The only "notiable" lesbian couple out of Disney's ministry of truth in recent years has been amity blythe and luz noceda. Sasha way bright was limited to a very minor passing mention (one that could easily be cut and censored in international broadcasts by the way) of being bisexual and andrea davenport of ghost and Molly Mcgee was "confirmed queer or questioning'' by the fat danger hair who wrote the lesser episodes of that show. In another easily trimble line.

Maybe it's cause I haven't watched many movies lately but the only notiable references to animated gays in film that I recall are Katie Mitchel from the forgettable Mitchell's and the machines (was that a Sony pictures animation movie I can't even remember who made that one), the kid fron strange world (who was only a supporting character not the main one the dad was the main character but disney was so desperate for rainbow capital they mislead people into thinking it was the gay boy in the lead) and one of ruby Gilmans fugly human friends....though there were definitely idiots on social media claiming ruby herself and the not Ariel and not a twist twist villian should have been a couple.

I'm not saying inside out 2 isn't going to make at least one of rileys new friends a lsbo just to claim "muh representation." But if onward, lightyear, beauty and the beast, or the aforementioned examples are anything to go by it'll be such a minor detail (and once again easy to trim for the Arab, Chinese, and belive ot or not Russian market) that it may as well not even BE a character trait at all.
