Should sticker notifications be brought back?

I think the longer this goes on, the thing that pisses me off the most is the "using this site is a privelige" attitude from null. That used to be true before he asked the community for $75,000 for a legal fund to defend the site. We gave him $200,000+. I don't think taking 71% of the site's opinion into consideration is a ridiculous ask after that.
Yeah, he nearly choked up expressing his gratitude on the following stream. Now you can go fuck yourself. Maybe we can sue for whiplash?

"Never meet your heroes,” they say. With everything come to light in this thread I’ve become... disillusioned, at best.

The way I’m reconciling donating to the legal fund is the same way Digital Justice Foundation(?) picked Russel Greer - “Yes, he’s literally retarded and doesn’t give a fuck about the merits of the case, but he’s currently our best shot at establishing legal precedent for our cause.” (their cause is stupid, for the record).

Maybe we should create a formal letter from the community expressing our concerns with the recent actions? It has to be better than just bitching in this thread.

This whole discussion brought forth a bunch of issues that have been slowly bubbling beneath the surface and I think it just turned to a lot of us airing our grievances for shit we've been noticing but have generally been quiet about. At the end of the day, I really like this site, and I want its existence to continue, but while we seemed to be winning against all our enemies on the outside, it just feels like the site is at risk of self-immolating.
I enjoyed the drama and gossip and airing of grievances in this thread and it has provoked some thoughts (bird thoughts) about the site.

We’ve been making guesses about what provoked Null to make this change and not recant. Clearly from his point of view, having notifications on is incorrect. And for him or any “power user” that is surely true, every post he makes gets 500 reactions. It would be like Elon musk having his phone set to vibrate every time someone reacts to one of his posts.

And it’s clear he has a long-standing aversion to scoring systems like Reddit’s, which I kind of agree with personally.

But who are the contingent who were complaining about negative reactions so much? At first it seemed to be blamed on furry ERP chatters.
It seems unlikely that Null would go out of his way to cater to people like that? So it must have been other DM chains than the furry ERP ones, but then, which kind of people?

I’ve seen a theory that maybe particular women whose presence Null values had been put off by rampant neg-rating. Ok, that’s perhaps more likely. I do appreciate that Null tries to keep the site non-incel, and there’s obviously a huge tension between his free speech ideals but at the same time hosting fucking awful misogynistic creeps to say whatever, which is then pointed to as what KF is about, and tars him with the same brush.
There’s no easy solution to that but maybe he thinks removing the notifications makes it more women friendly, and clearly didn’t realise so many people were relying on and enjoying the feature.

Or there’s a third category, relating to how the site is funded. Null derided one user for saying something about “voting with your wallet”, because he had an old join date but no T&H sticker.
I do wonder if this is a clue as to the real decision making process.
There have long been hints that there are a few, for want of a better term, paypigs who keep the site afloat. And that’s not unexpected - the costs to run the site are not just the hosting and bandwidth fees, but also to maintain Null as a full time employee (or like 3 employees really, with the amount he does). The guy’s got to live, pay rent, travel transatlantic. Moving back to the US is expensive and stressful.
So I don’t know what the superchats on MATI make typically, and I’ve donated a few times to feel like I paid my way, but really I imagine the big lifting is done by the big donors.
And of course I’m speculating, but what kind of user is going to be motivated enough to spend thousands? 10s of thousands? To keep a shitposting site online? Well obviously, they must use it a lot. And maybe they have opinions and attitudes that can really only be said on somewhere like KF, so the free speech fight is important to them personally, and worth paying for.
But *maybe* these controversial opinions also get them a lot of dumb ratings. And if you’ve paid 10k towards a site to keep it open for all the users there, but those users are continually treating you like a retard, maybe you get upset about that. And you mention that to Null, who feels duty bound to do something about it. I mean who wouldn’t. But he also can’t really be plain about the reason as it would raise hackles about favouritism and cliques and so on.

So, is this a site breaking change, no. But it’s a bit annoying, and more annoying is the high-handed way it was done, and now the digging in and the “fuck those people” attitude to anyone who disagrees. I don’t think it’s an exaggeration to say he dislikes most of the user base, especially those who’ve signed up in like the last 5 years.
The 2020 pinned message is a bit of an eye opener. I’m honestly surprised the site is still here. Why not DFE and walk away? Well, you kind of have an obligation to the donors and now to everyone thanks to the fundraiser. That’s a bit of a trap, and a shit load of pressure.

The occasional sperg outs and hair trigger banning sprees are frankly understandable. But he could really do with the whole site on his side at the moment - the benevolent dictator model only works so long as enough people love the dictator. Consulting a bit more, even via polls like this one would have maybe guided things to a compromise or at least more understanding so people wouldn’t have got as mad about it. Tact and diplomacy isn’t everyone’s strong point especially when they feel like the world is against them.

Anyway, that’s my wall of text about the matter, please like and subscribe.

I can’t tell if this is the set up and punchline of an ironic joke but well played if so.
And good luck if not.

I’m in the group that used reaction notifications as a bookmark or signal that a thread I’ve posted in is getting engagement. Often I would forget about threads entirely until I got a notification that someone reacted to a post, and it encouraged me to go check in and see if anything new had happened. That’s why I suggested a broad “user x has reacted to your post in x thread” instead.

No one remembers or cares except for you.

Though I'm sure you'll hold onto it until the heat death of the universe like all your other scripted responses.
It'll always be pretty hilarious how upset you get when someone doesn't act like a puritanical elderly man. Especially given that you did that after you wanted to call a truce :story:

Efforts must be made to push back the tide of social mediaization of traditional web design. Null is right to force people to use the site in a certain way. A lot of people here pretend to miss the "Old Internet", but I remember forums 20 years ago, and the typical forum admins back then were imperious dickheads who ran things like petty dictators. This whining about "the desires of the users" is so modern and gay, and corporate.

Nulltax indeed

Also wow people on this forum are just completely incapable of ignoring obvious bait/faggots with nothing of value to add. I leave the thread for one night to go do shit on a Saturday instead of complain about stickers, and a tranny from the very gay ERP DM chain that triggered this entire disaster successfully derails it.

That's Hollywood Hogan and he gets ass blasted about stickers. Dude gives out near half his tugboat to Null to keep posting here, so I'm sure that influenced the decision.
I wouldn't be throwing stones here, man. You got so upset that I talked bad about Republicans that you faildoxed me and then deleted it like a little bitch when we pointed out that anyone with an IQ above 60 could tell they were fake.

And despite what you and your fellow incels say, I don't give @Null any money. Again, I know you're an impressionable simpleton who is always upset, but you gotta stop believing whatever your fellow incels say. Null has repeatedly stated that not loving Donald Trump, Mitch McConnell and Ted Cruz with all your soul is not against the rules even though that makes you seethe with rage

The sticker changes felt like every other big gay faceless website and corporation doing a stupid change that the majority of people don't like, but it will never get changed despite community outcry. While jannies and their dickriders smugly tell everyone who complains to go fuck themselves. I thought this site was different, so I found this all quite disheartening.
I appreciate the level-headed response. I understand the concerns about the women's space a bit more, though I'm still of two minds on it.

For this thread and the stickers, I think the volatility has just become too much. I've seen the internal dramas here and there, had my own gripes about how some things were handled and agreed with others, but we always moved on in the end. My dismay comes when people freak out when given pushback on their grievances. The thread has turned into a mess, yes partially because there's those who love to poke at the ones who want stickers, but also because of those sticker people who will lash out and post cringe soyjack reaction images as if it is an own. They don't want a solution anymore. They know that reacting like this makes Null (and many sticker people) say "that's retarded" and stop wanting to listen to them.

I want the site to thrive, too. I would also enjoy stickers. But this will not happen if people become deranged and insult the sole decision maker. I hope that the adjustment to site changes goes well for the both of us.
