As narratively satisfying as this story is, or the one about it being the result of a shady mob deal which involved getting an underling's retarded friend to become an "action star" in order to launder money through ultra cheap action flicks, my guess given Seagal's behaviour over the years is that he was and is an unbelievably shameless user of people's charity and good nature, who is also an expert at parlaying a mediocre resume to pitch shit and market himself to coked up blowhards and disinterested corporate droids, but unlike so many others of his kind he was also genuinely fucking retarded and thus when he actually managed to make it to a legitimate celebrity status he felt he was now utterly untouchable and could say and do whatever the fuck he liked, not only to "nobodies" but to other celebs and serious players in the celeb sphere even after they had given him a chance.
Naturally, breaking one of the few unwritten moral codes of the literal fucking sodom that is Hollywood/the media sphere resulted in him fairly quickly getting shitcanned as the number of celebs who wanted to be seen with him/execs willing to take a gamble on him declined to fucking zero, which resulted in him devolving first to straight to VHS/DVD/Stream hell, and from there to "literally gargling the balls of third world dictators" which brings us to now.
Bringing this back to fat, I suspect he had a similar-in-concept start to his literary career, in that he shamelessly hunted down and used any and all connections he could make either by himself or through family (which is likely where he wound up making and staying friends with his roster of SFWA kid fuckers) to get some two bit book deal, and then parlay this along with shameless dicksucking of the Scalzi tier "trash-writers-who-act-like-high-school-girls" clique to publishers in order to get his other books published, and once he had "enough" to pretend he was a real author he rapidly devolved into the perpetually oinking homosexual lard golem we know and love

Credit to her for evaluating what she saw on its own merits rather than forming up on political tribal lines as is so commonly the case. Most of Pat's defenders see that Pat shares their politics, and then assume that all his critics must be Drumpf-loving Nazi Incel Chuds.
One of the reasons we can't get anywhere in the West is that politics is so tribal that most people will loudly defend any lunatic, weirdo or criminal if they're on the same side of the political fence as them.
And that's why Pat struggles so badly to deal with Leslie. Even he can't pretend that she's a Chud, so he doesn't have any other line of attack against her, so he defaults to exposing his obvious misogyny. Pat hates women, probably because of the Lappening, and that becomes crystal clear in the way he hurls abuse at her.
