I still don't get how this would even work. Taxpayers need to pay into it. So if half the tax payers (as an example) decide fuck this I am gonna collect UBI cause I make the same working after taxation; where the fuck is all the money gonna come from to pay out UBI?

Part of some of the original UBI theory is that some of the revenue needed to fund this massive entitlement program would come from cannibalizing other social safety net programs and doing away with the massive civil service bureaucracies associated with them.

So no welfare, no disability, no old age security, no baby bonuses, no EI, no mat leave.

So by streamlining everything and making eligibility requirements flat and universal, you free up funds getting rid of other boutique entitlements and the associated paper pushers.

Of course, this was never going to happen. The entrenched civil service and deep state were never going to sign off on their destruction with simple legislation.

And of course, the complementary departmental cuts have been completely memoryholed, but the idea of "free money for everyone for doing nothing" persists.

Firstly, let me state that I'm an opponent of UBI, (as well as federal income tax, and the federal government in general). I view UBI as a bait to spring CBDC's, Digital ID, and consequently, social credit, upon the populace. The ID & CBDC will begin as voluntary, but UBI will be contingent upon accepting the digital ID & linked digital bank account. Once a critical mass of adopters is reached, which will inevitably happen given time, it will become either de facto mandatory or mandatory via carrot & stick.

I don't know a lot about this stuff, but I think there is room for nuance. With increased automation, something will eventually have to give. Consider this. Every person born in Canada gets some stipend. Those who earn over a certain income threshold can either opt-out or choose to have it calculated within their taxes yearly. But, and this is the important part, all or most of the social service administration is eliminated. There were some proposals and experiments along these lines in the 70's and 80's in Canada and the US, beginning with the Nixon administration.

Here is William F. Buckley and Milton Friedman discussing his "negative income tax" concept on Firing Line. Friedman claims it would save at least 72% of the cost of the administration of social services..

To reiterate, I am against this shit in our modern non-homogenous, open-border, techno-dystopian police state. In a world where small government and limited bureaucracy were even a vague possibility, it might be an idea worth considering. In the experiments, there were benefits beyond the financial (increased birth rate, better health, more kids graduated HS), there were also unforeseen consequences (increased divorce rate).

We've never had a truly high trust society.

The people coming here, for the most part, come here because they prefer living in a country with British heritage, a British legal system, and modern American/British culture. They prefer living in a place of rules, not one of "lie, cheat, steal" as a mode of life.

Are there exceptions? Sure. But personally I weigh the low-iq Nigerians, smelly Indians, and incomprehensible Chinese against the legacy disused farm equipment that came up from burgerland and I don't really see such a big issue until very recently where the rate of immigration became completely unworkable.
