I feel so out of the loop with modern AAA titles because I genuinely don't care for them. Like even without the Sweetbaby retard shit I always didn't care for them since I want to say around the mid 2010s? There are some exceptions of course like getting Red Dead 2 because it's a genuinely fun game and foolishly getting Cyberpunk out of sheer morbid curiosity to see how terrible it was initial launch but aside from those that spark of interest in AAA games has been dead in me for years like even shit I feel like I would've given a shit about like GTA6 I genuinely don't care for it nor have interest in.

As someone who recently got a rig himself, I actively can & can't run DD2 at the same time. I have a 32GB RAM & a 1TB SSD, but this'll still make my PC shit itself cause I have an old Radeon 570 & a Ryzen 5 5500.

In which world are things like i9/Ryzen 9, & RTX 4080/Radeon 7900 a "recommend choice" instead of a maximum one is beyond me. It's like the basic skill of size compression & lower-end comparability has become a lost art or something.

I just built a new rig and popped in an 'old" Radeon 5700 XT as a "make do" until I can justify getting a better card to compliment my 7800X3D, but it already plays GTA V in 2K at my TV's 120 hz framerate, so unless I want to play a newer game I don't really have to.

Like everyone else I've got a backlog to work through, and the only potential game I see on the horizon that would "force" me into a better card than that 5700 XT is GTA VI...

They have them on gog, they've been sitting in my library forever and I have to revisit them.

There's also the Buck Rogers ones, which have almost nothing to do with buck rogers and is a reskin of AD&D into a raygun gothic sci-fi adventure. I think I read somewhere it was going to be a tabletop product by TSR that got shuttered but they coded a video game anyway. It has a multitude of weapons and classes, a giant skill based system and actual spaceship combat. It does all of these better than Starfield.

Those games were pretty niche even back then but it would be pretty great to see a niche group of zoomers find them or something in a similar genre and lean to enjoy them. If they get mad enough about AAA bullshit they might just do that.

I have a cousin who is Gen Alpha, and when I went over to his house for a cookout last year, I watched him play on his PS5 and talked to him about it for a bit. All he does is play GTA Online, CoD Warzone, Fortnite, Roblox, and Madden. He didn't own Spiderman, GoW, TLoU, or anything like that, it was pretty much just the same shit teens his age played back in the 2000s. He said that most of his friends were the same as him.

As for me, I'm an autist so I'll remove myself from the example, but most of my friends from back in High School (Gen Z) either don't play video games anymore, or play the same ones as my cousin. The only people I know who have even played SBI games are two friends that are long-term GoW fans. Even my one friend who literally interned for the local Democratic party and hopes to become a Democrat politician isn't interested in these games.

None of this is anything more than anecdotes, but it leads me to the same train of thought as you. If you ever go to the Video Game Valley stream he does pretty much nightly, you'll see that the chat has been poisoned by troons and spastics. Really tanks the stream sometimes, and it's just sad to hear Jason curtail to these people night after night instead of making cool short movies or podcasts like he used to. His new animations are hit or miss to me.
