Creation Engine being shit is all on Bethesda. It has nothing to do with it's legacy codebases. You're using technology on a daily basis that has a decades old codebase and it doesn't fail, because it was properly maintained and expanded. Bethesda's codebase is shit because Bethesda is shit.

Yeah they rewrote the whole kernal for Windows Enterprise/Server (IIRC hard to remember the versions) and Windows Longhorn was released on the old fork.. I watched a whole interview about it. MS went back, refactored, rewrote the code, brought everything up to snuff, made it all maintainable... That's what they were doing all those years.

There is nothing wrong with old code, some of the Carmack Doom code was revolutionary in it's efficiency for instance, the core rendering methods are going to be clean (or at least I would hope so) it's just when old code isn't maintained/refactored it can be hell (usually the higher level stuff). Management always holds ultimate responsibility regardless, they decide what to prioritize and at the end of the day it is 100% Bethesdas fault. It just has that smell to it, if we ever get a proper autopsy it will be found that they mismanaged their technical debt in favor of making release deadlines over and over again. I have worked in shitty codebases and when proper encapsulation isn't done and testing is not in place and there is no will to fix anything. It's an absolute nightmare rife with bugs and massive productivity sinks around every corner.

You've bought into the "based Poland" meme and you've been fooled. CD Projekt, the umbrella company, is publicly traded, therefore it is a part of the exact same machine as EA, Microsoft and all the other common culprits.

I could write an entire diatribe about how Poland isn't based and how CDPR's rise in popularity happened alongside Poland's successes on the e-sports scene, how we always cling onto those worldwide recognition events hard like we did with Adam Małysz and Mariusz Pudzianowski, how The Witcher 3 was lighting in bottle and how everything went down from there as far as CDPR is concerned, but it's late, I'd be repeating myself again and I already typed out enough.

It would seem so. And yeah, if you had just posted a "we're all tired" I would've probably already known enough.

And here I thought I remembered Microsoft and GoG both basically bonding in taking potshots at Epic's exclusivity deals at one point. Who of course helped get Alan Wake 2 made (Just for a full circle of the thread.)

let's add an Office ribbon UI to File Explorer
Not my problem, Total Commander is the superior file manager. :smug:

Seriously, learn how to use an OFM and forget about all those faggot GUI file managers you've been conditioned to use because that's what Microsoft came up with for normies and that's what every other Linux distro copies.
fuck you I'm installing Tiktok whether you want it or not.
Show me one valid example where Windows Update actually installed the TikTok UWP without the user's consent. If you install Windows 11 and you see the icons for Spotify, TikTok and other shit like this, go to the Settings and look if it's actually installed. It won't be, because those icons are Microsoft Store ads, those apps aren't installed.

That's your actual complaint right there, non-descriptive ads in the Start menu. Run WinUtil, do some extra debloating, and you're left with a clean OS. Do it in a VM just to get the idea, that's how I got the taste of how shit Win11 is and how you can un-shit it without actually switching to it. If your opinion on Win11 is still based on "he said she said", just get VMware Player, the ISO from MS' site and do just that.

Yes that's how it should've been from the start, but it's Microsoft, they're always gonna fuck something up, so either learn how to tardwrangle it or move to Linux and suffer all of it's issues instead if you prefer that. Every modern OS is shit and it's up to you which one you want to put up with.

lol, Longhorn, what a development hell that was. Only took them a demoralizing botched launch of whatever they managed to finally whip together that was Vista and then learning from that to release a patched version, and release it as Windows 7.

That's the entire crux of the argument. Creation Engine is shit because Bethesda never properly maintained the code, nor did they ever pay any attention to it's quality. The laziness and half-assedness is everywhere in Bethesda, and their engine wasn't saved from it either.
It would seem so. And yeah, if you had just posted a "we're all tired" I would've probably already known enough.

It would be good to properly explain from the perspective of a Pole how the whole "based Poland" meme resulted in this perfect juxtaposition of The Witcher 3 being a success, Virtus.pro with it's all-Polish CS:GO team getting worldwide recognition, the populist party Law and Justice doing some homophobic stunts to appease to the lowest common denominal, and the 2016 US election happening with 4chan buzzing hard.

This created this hyperinflated image of Poland in the West being this amazing and based country that's super great even though it was nothing like that. PiS was shit, caused a lot of issues for the country because they always were just a bunch of populists with zero care about the country or any idea how to run it well, insert an even longer tirade on how shit Polish politics are in reality, CDPR would fire/lay off all the employees that worked on Witcher 3 by the time they were done with the expansions, Virtus.pro would change up their CS:GO squad so the legendary Polish dream team would break up, but the Western image of Poland being based remained.

Case in point: just because a company is Polish doesn't mean it's based. If it's public, it sold it's soul like every other publicly traded company you can point to. Witcher 3 was a one time success that was never repeated, and GOG is an LLC subsidiary of a publicly traded company, CD Projekt S.A. So be very careful about GOG because of this.

Thank you for explaining that. I must've gotten somewhat suckered by my optimistic hopes for the Poles. But that's quite enlightening.
Admittingly I never followed them Witcher/GoG/Poland too closely. But every now and then I tend to hope for some good news.

The Sweet Baby Inc controversy got the attention of Daily Wire's Matt Walsh, who recognized that video game journalists are even dumber than regular journalists.

The Daily Wire seems to have taken notice.

Gamergate 2 may very well be a superior sequel to the first one.

So yesterday Matt Walsh headlined his show with the Sweet Baby Inc controversy, bringing wokeness in video games to the attention of a massive relatively-normie conservative audience. This made obscure YouTuber Jeremy Griggs (aka DDayCobra) mad because Walsh said, in part, that the issue "hasn't received much attention," and "should get a lot of our attention, and now, finally, that attention is here":

And now it seems that anti-woke Twitter and YouTube (TheQuartering, Nerdrotic, etc.) are super mad at Walsh for joining their side at all, trending him on Twitter with their discontent. Even though what Walsh said is absolutely true. Wokeness in video games have not gotten a lot of attention in video games outside a relatively small group of hardcore online video game enthusiasts. Gamergate is a very obscure subject beyond the recognition of a normie, especially the truth about Gamergate obscured for a decade by the narrative of ideologically-captured video game journalism. Mainstream conservative media that Walsh is a part of, meanwhile, has protested plenty against woke Hollywood and literature, but video games have simply not been in their purview. I suppose, though, that the online anti-woke nerd crowd would actually prefer to cut off their noses and remain as insular losers than spread their message and activism to a wider audience.

But Matt Walsh is an insincere grifter! He doesn't give a shit about video games and thinks they're for children!
Yeah, not everyone plays and enjoys video games. So what? Such people can still see legit issues in the video game industry and form common cause with those who have long been in the thick of it.

But Matt Walsh already called anime "demonic!"
Yeah, of course he personally does not like anime either. And he goes the extra step of off-handedly dismissing it as "demonic" because that goes along with his dry, sarcastic sense of humor as a crotchety "old man" that anyone who's actually familiar with his content is aware of. It's plainly obvious given his comedic video of him being put up with One Punch Man by audience request.

This all comes off to me as anti-woke YouTube personalities getting pissy that somebody with a much, much bigger audience is suddenly talking about their pet issue, feeling compelled to antagonistically "mark their territory".

@Drain Todger - That was a great post, though one thing. Why use the word homophobia?

Wokeists love describing criticism of faggotry, troons, and gender species as homophobic and transphobic because it creates the false sense of notion that their enemies have a persistent, abnormal, and irrational fear of gays and transsexuals. When in reality, most opponents aren’t afraid of looking at men who only gets attention because they know claiming to be a fag (at least if you’re not White) or the opposite sex will score them status symbol. The few that do have a persistent fear of LGBTACRONYM+ will have very good reasons for it given that many, especially troons, have openly declared they are coming for your children.

I’d rather use words like anti-gay and anti-trans to describe negative depiction of sexual minorities. It’s harder for the wokeists to be hyperbolic when they can’t use leftist rhetoric to project their destructive propaganda.

SJW didacticism creates a very narrowly defined category of what constitutes an acceptable protagonist, which looks something like a magical half-fairy, half-African woman who flies around with shimmering butterfly wings and shoots magic pixie dust from her hands and rights all the wrongs in the world with no effort and no moral conflict.
She is also either fat or otherwise deformed (such as with bug eyes, for example) and probably has a septum piercing.
Out of curiosity, I listened to several game journo podcasts to see what they're saying about this Sweet Baby Inc. controversy. I've put together clips of the related segments along with notes for your review:
Pretty much what I would expect from that lot. Mini-"GamerGates" along these lines have actually been happening on and off since 2014 because these same people were never kicked out of gaming journalism or gaming. (For example, Hogwart's Legacy was an attempt to drum up a "GamerGate.") This time though, I think they are a bit frightened because "the free money for weirdos" should be drying up, given the state of the economy. If their people don't control the government after the next election, they can also say goodbye to misdirected tax money for a while.

This is definitely worth emphasizing. While Activision-Blizzard were certainly embarrassed upon the public blowback to their DEI presentation, they're still devoted to the cause and will just continue to utilize their "diversity space tool" and things of the like internally, away from public scrutiny. Even that "apologetic" editor's note admits as much that they're not changing their woke course. It's worth looking back at the original press release with the incriminating pictures as well as the old corresponding GDC presentation.

Possibly, I might be a little naive perhaps.
But I think seeing a big personality, with quality production and editing etc I think they just got shock reaction thinking some big corporate voice might be trying to hijack the 'narrative.'

Don't attribute to malice, what can easily be attributed to stupidity. Or maybe I'm wrong and they Are just jelly. Just not sure how informed they might necessarily be either.

This nigger misunderstands the fundamental disconnect in power here. Without gamers (or more neutrally, consumers), you don't have a job, period. I know it's easy to cruise on "well they don't employ me" just because you draw a salary from your company, but guess what, if it doesn't sell, well, see all the other recent layoffs as to what will happen.

And this one will be the first to be let go.

There was an old Metokur stream where he got in an argument with a game developer. The dev tried taking this approach and Jim responded by saying "I'm a customer. I don't care how hard your job is, I just want games that don't suck."
Almost like if you're an abrasive cunt to everyone they won't care about your struggles and woes and keep you to as high a standard as anyone else. What kind of situation do these people grow up in where none of their heinous behaviour is called out?

"Why Right-wing social platforms always fail ... because what Right-wing users want is access to victims."
As the Kiwi Farms has shown, oversharing blowhards are victimized by obscure forums discussing them way off-platform. Nothing Is Beyond Our Reach.

TheQuartering has gotten into dumb fights with Walsh, mix that with some envy. Also, cue the "we need to stop all the in-fighting on the right" deescalation video.
