i dont know if TI even makes a profit tbh
most likely it does because they always raise millions of prize money with their microtransaction sales and valve pockets most of that revenue, but overall the purpose of TI isn't to make money, the purpose is to serve as a giant spectacle and put a big spotlight on dota. it's a marketing tool, been that way since the first one in 2011.

True, but the prize pool has been getting smaller each year. They still have to make something to keep this going. Last year TI had the smallest pool at $3 million because Valve decided to cut down on the cosmetics and focus on the esports division no one really gave a shit about. 2022 wasn't any better with how greedy and shady Valve was with the compendium (breaking it up into two halves).

LoL's esport scene is also falling apart with more players getting fed up with Riot, and Overwatch's scene is still dead. Woke Kombat 1 has less players participating in Evo than a 25 year-old fighting game from Crapcom, and it's still a new fighting game.

I wonder if it's a licensing agreement kind of thing. Although, I also wonder if there's a stipulation in the contract that the company can pay to be disassociated with Sweet Baby, creating what amounts to a double whammy. They get paid to be a consultant, then get paid to fuck off. Genius.

I remind all gamers the world of Strange Real. The setting of the Ace Combat series. A delightful mythos. Untainted by woke, or even current year geopolitics.

I'd call myself left and nearly socialist on things like labor issues and whether we should have a social safety net, but almost exactly of the same opinion of the right on issues like troons and bullshit like "hate speech" laws. I would say I'm relatively conservative on economic issues and running huge deficits in times of prosperity (the time to do that is when it is actually necessary and if you do it in good times you have no ability to do it when it is needed).

It's not like there's really some aggregate position where you just add up all the issues and count them like that political compass bullshit, and most people seem to have this retarded attitude where they treat their political party like a sportsball team and just slavishly adopt every single opinion their party has (and both parties have some buttfuck retarded positions).

Being lectured to in entertainment about shit you already agree with is literal insanity. There was a time when the Left understood this and just wanted to make cool shit for the sake of making cool shit. Look at all the (for lack of a better term) diversity in late 70s and 80s cartoons. People weren't afraid to try something new. Even if it failed, it found a niche market as a cult classic by today's standards with an audience SOMEWHERE. I know there are a LOT of shows that utterly failed when they were released, but have found new audiences rediscovering them thanks to the animation, or the excellent (and sometimes TERRIBLE and often hilarious) voice acting.
